Now that the Chiefs have knocked off the Bolts to tie up both the Raiders and Bolts at 4-3, who is actually in first place of the AFC West at this moment in time?
One thing I know for sure is that, after this KC victory, the Raiders are now in 3rd place, and 1st is between Queefs and Dolts.
They have split their two games, and they are both at 2-1 in the Division. The next tie-breaker is the record against common opponents ... the only one they have, believe it or not, is Minnesota, who they both beat. After that is conference record. Chiefs AFC record is: 3-2, and the Dolts are 3-3.
So, that's it: Kansas City has risen from the ashes of an 0-3 start, and are now in 1st place of the AFC West after tie-breakers are calculated.
So I ask you ... after all the shit we've talked over the past 7 weeks, those bastard friggin upstart CHIEFS ARE NOW IN FIRST PLACE in the AFC West ... after that horrific start to the season. And we are in 3rd place.
That is just ... depressing.
Frankly, I wanted them to lose, even though SD had the better record overall ... this year I think the Chiefs may be the more dangerous team.
edit: nevermind, as terps pointed out, we'd stay in 3rd if we all 3 win due to head-to-head record between all three teams.
Interestingly, if everyone at 4-3 wins next week, the Raiders will move into 2nd place. This is because, vs. SD, we will have the same division record (2-1) but would take 2nd place due to a slightly better common opponents record: we'd be at 3-2 for common opponents (which are Den, NE, Jets, and KC), whereas SD would be at 2-3. We also win the 5th level tie-breaker (not that it 'counts') due to a 5-3 AFC record, vs the Chargers at 3-3 in the Conference.
