I would like to share a few thoughts about Al's blasted Oakland Raiders.
I am a long time Denver Bronco fan, clear back to 1962. Back then, as you know, the AFL was nothing more than an after-thought for most football fans...and only a curiosity to some because NBC started airing games. I however (living in the heart of the Rockies) loved the fact that we had a Pro Football team as close as my neighbor state Colorado.
It did not take me long to hate you Raiders. I hated you with a 'from the gut' hate that only a boy from the Rockies could hate. With all this hate I, to this day, cannot understand why I was rooting for, and depressed by, your loss to Green Bay in Super Bowl II .
I don't know if you're like this but I still think of the Broncos, Raiders, Boston, KC, and others as AFL teams. I know its all NFL now...but it wasn't always. Al Davis was a big part of not only holding that once fragile league together, he helped introduce a vertical air game that made it fun to watch.
The funny thing is that no matter how much I hate your team, and the hate is great, I've always been on your side when you made the Super Bowl.
We would not have this hate/love fun without the vision of Al Davis for the future. I'm not using any notes for this post, I'm just using thoughts from my younger days, days when the AFC was known as the AFL. An AFC that might not be here if the brilliance of a few men....Al Davis as one...had not been around.
JUST WIN BABY !!!
