Ask A Vikings Fan!
Hello, folks at Silver and Black Pride!
I'm Landonio over from the Daily Norseman website. I was kind of surprised when I saw that nobody from our site had started one of these posts up by now (considering that Screwfish already threw one up on DN) so I decided to shoulder the task myself. As you probably found out, all of us Vikes fans are a little bit down in the dumps about monday (and pretty much the entire season), but I'm really looking forward to Sunday's game, as I think it'll be a good one for a couple of reasons:
1. Carson Palmer/Michael Bush/Denarius Moore vs. Christian Ponder/AP/Harvin will be awesome to see in the Dome.
2. While I realistically think the Vikes won't be able to win this one, I think it'll be competitive.
3. It's not a divisional game. So. Sick. Of. Them.
Anyways, you guys know the rules. Rec' to the top if you please, ask away, and me and a couple of other peeps over at the DN will answer your questions if you have 'em. Try not to troll. It's just football, and this is just for the sake of finding more out about your opponent. All in good fun.
Have at it!

Well, I can tell you one thing: stay away from our Fantasy Defense.
Other than that, though, there are only two big notables: AP (obviously) and Harvin can be a decent option as a WR3 as well. Visanthe Shiancoe is a low TE1 option as he’s been more of a target for Ponder since he’s started, but I wouldn’t roll with him unless desperate. Michael Jenkins is an okay flex starter, but nothing special unless you’re in a 12-team PPR-flex team I don’t think.

I think the vikings are a really talented team.
I mean just a few years ago you were in the NFC championship. In 1-2 years I could see you guys competing for the division again. You guys have the best RB in game, Adrian Peterson can not only do things a lot of RB’s can’t he is also pretty durable. Jared Allen just wow, Percy Harvin is also very talented but the last few years he’s had nagging migraines. I don’t know much about your QB Christian Ponder could you talk about his play thus far? I’m assuming your O-Line play has been efficient, while your secondary is probably your weakness on D. I’m truly glad Jared Allen is no longer in the AFC West and I hope the man just takes a little breather and relaxes on Sunday, he has enough sacks already.
Thank you for the compliments, they're a real sight for sore eyes.
I’m hoping we can get up to par with the rest of the division with a good draft or two as well. We have a lot of core talent, like you said, but the rest of the team is strongly lacking. This is especially in areas like the Offensive Line (while you think they might be good, they’ve actually REALLY sucked this year) and secondary. Secondary is weakness numero uno, as you pointed out, and then the O-LIne, which is really, really inconsistent. AP makes a lot of those plays by himself.
Anyways, as for your question about Ponder, I think he’s going to develop into a quality quarterback and has quite a bit of potential. Prior to monday night against the Packers, he had displayed some nice things through a lot of good characteristics; accuracy, quick decisions, poise, etc. He held his own against the Packers at home, and then went and beat the Panthers on the road next week. Obviously, things didn’t go so well this past week (ugh) but with such a high blitz % from the Pack’s D and terrible blocking I don’t blame him for the pedestrian game. Ponder is also a lot more athletic than people give him credit for, and he can move in the pocket. He’s shown a lot of good things thus far, now it’s just putting it all together. His future is much brighter than any other Vikings QB has had in recent memory, with one exception maybe being our backup Joe Webb at the end of last season.

Honestly I think Ponders performance the first game doomed him for the second
He came out of the gate and shocked the Packers and Dom Capers wanted to get even. He has really impressed me anyway, especially since I thought he was a reach. I think he has already shown he was the right pick for you guys and will be a big part of the resurgence of your club.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of your team
What would be your keys to the game for both Raiders and Vikings?
"Weakness on both sides is, as we know, the motto of all quarrels." -Voltaire
Great question (lets me get my football nerd out)
Strengths: Obviously, the Vikings have a pretty potent rushing attack headed by AP and a decent run-blocking game. We have some decent weapons in the passing game with Shiancoe and Harvin, and with Christian Ponder in the game our passing offense looks better than it has (when Christian Ponder has time to throw…I’ll get more on to that, later.) Our pass rush is the strength of our defense, no question, and our run defense is pretty decent as well. That’s about it though…
Weaknesses: Man, I could write pages about this season. Inconsistencies have plagued this team since Game 1, and it’s not looking good for the rest of the season. Our offensive line’s pass blocking is absolutely horrendous at times, which doesn’t make me very optimistic for Sunday’s game. Our pass defense is easily the biggest weakness on our team. We allow huge passes, short and deep, and the corners that do typically play well are either injury prone (no more Winfield/Ced’s surgically repaired knees), are in jail (Chris Cook), or just don’t have good talent/experience (the rest.) Our safeties and linebackers are no better. Jared Allen has more interceptions than half the members of our secondary, and I’ll leave it at that.
Gameplan for the Raiders: Stay balanced on offense. The Vikings are at their weakest on defense when they don’t know what’s coming at them. Run, Pass, Run, Pass is deadly when you’re going against the Vikings, especially considering their inability to cover a passing play (even moreso while they think it’s a run). If they can keep the Vikings defense on their toes, create long drives to keep AP off the field, and take deep shots, I think that would be the way to go. On defense, the big thing is stopping Adrian Peterson. If he goes, it would be easier to stop Ponder than vice versa.
Gameplan for the Vikings: I think that if the Vikings can play solid, ball control offense they have a shot. One area that Christian Ponder has shined in since taking over the starting job is converting third downs. He already has more third down conversions in 3 games (15) than McNabb did in 6 (14). If they can sustain drives with key passing plays and open up things for Adrian Peterson, this game could become a lot more competitive than they think. On defense, the Vikings should pass rush early and often in an effort to get Carson Palmer off rhythm and contain Bush as much as their run defense allows. Although it doesn’t sound like it would be a winning strategy, making Palmer beat the Vikings might be their best shot because of their pass rush.
Anyways, my two cents. Who’s next?!

Thanks for the well thought and detailed response
I know how it feels to have an inconsistent defense and a banged up secondary. Our run defense this year has been either really good or really bad from game to game. Arian Foster couldn’t run against us but law firm put up his yearly best numbers in Oakland.
We let Nnamdi go in the off-season and our #2 CB position has been a weakness all season. 3 of our CBs are injured. The guy who started last week, Lito Sheppard, was signed just 2 weeks ago. If you guys can establish the run against us and the scores are close, this game can go either way.
I just remembered that Sheppard played for you guys last year. What do you think of him?
"Weakness on both sides is, as we know, the motto of all quarrels." -Voltaire
Yeah, we have some serious CB weaknesses as well.
We have for a couple of years now. By my indications, whenever you need to play Lito Sheppard it means you’re getting thin at the CB position. I actually really liked it when we picked him up last year, but it was clear to me at that point that he didn’t really have anything left in the tank. However, in watching the game against San Diego on Thursday, he actually looked like he’s worked at it again. He was playing pretty good in man coverage, and he had a couple of really smart games during the game. He’ll be a good holdover for you guys while your corners are recovering, IMO.

First off, I respect Viking fans based on people I've read repping them like Christopher Gates (a brilliant writer) and Ted Glover
Having suffered through the fandom of loving a team on the ropes and watching helplessly as it thrashed on the deck like a beached swordfish I can tell you that it can quickly be changed (in this amazing league). Two examples should suffice – San Francisco and Indianapolis. The first gets a new coaching staff and goes from the pits to the heights the other loses one key player and experiences an unprecedented collapse. The Vikings could turn it around in one season perhaps two.
As for this game, I’m on record for considering it one of our 2 or 3 toughest of the remaining 6.

Remaining 7 (I wasn't looking past any of them if that's what you suspected). The Raiders cannot look beyond any game
E.g. our game against Miami with G.B. the following week.

I agree Minny will be one of our bigger challenges from here on out
They have the best RB in the league this season statistically and arguably in reality since DMC can’t stay healthy. They also have a great run defense…those 2 things are our 2 biggest cruxes that cause us to lose typically. This may be one of those games where we will need to establish the pass to get the run game going but I still say we need to run the ball as much as possible.
You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.

I understand we need to be balanced, but are you going to be more concerned about our passing or running on you?

Please run on us
We have lost our starting three corner backs.. One to injury this year, one is playing but poorly from an injury last year and the last one is dealing with some legal issues (who knew choking your girlfriend was illegal?). McFadden might be able to run all over us but if you let Palmer air it out he’ll look like an All Pro for sure.
So you think McFadden is going to play? Because i have him and his back up right now and I’m making some rough decisions..
Putting Ponder in isn't the question, it's the answer.
DMC isn't playing... I'd have to think they have the confidence in Bush and Jones to carry the load.
It all depends on our Oline. thats the difference with DMC and the others. DMC makes more plays outside of the box where as Bush pushes the piles. I think and I hope im right but Reese should be part of the game plan here.

Passing, and it's not even close.
Our secondary is torched week in and week out, and with the track team that the Raiders have at wide receiver in the dome I’m pretty worried. Our only real chance is by getting the pass rush going early and often, IMO.

Speed vs Vikes
With Winfield out, who is the best cornerback on the vikes roster? They have to be able to cover D.moore or Heyward bey or Ford or even TJ. A tough load to watch, but at least you guys have Jared Allen.

We had Asher Allen covering Jennings this week
and you saw how that went… He’s was our Nickel/Dime guy and now he’s the guy we put on the other teams best receiver… Obviously this isn’t good.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
Yeah our pass rush is our best asset,
but our best cover corner is in jail….our next best one has a broken clavicle. Then it goes Asher Allen, Ced Griffin, Benny Sapp, Marcus Sherels and then Brandon Burton.

Hows Leslie Frazier working out there for you guys? Or better yet when is Mike Singleterry gonna take over?
Singleterry has been the butt of jokes out here, right next to Lane and Jamarcus. Also, what happened to Mcnabb?
I remember when there were rumors of him coming to Oakland a few years back, I got pretty excited. Instead we got Jason but as hindsight is 40/20, it was the better move. I’d have to think it was a chemistry issue because Jason’s first year here was not pretty at all.

Not really happy with Singleterry right now,
Our LB’s kicked butt last year and they are falling apart this year… Just another side affect of sucking though I guess.. McNabb looks worse on film than he does on paper. It looks like he can compete tell you realize all of his passes are so terrible that it took everything the receiver had just to catch the ball in the first place. YAC was very low when he was tossing the rock. By the way if you want him you can have him, his chunky soup and his Mom. We’ll take a stale cracker and a chunk of road kill for him.
So how you all feeling about Al Davis? I know I have friends who are Raiders fans, and their feelings were mixed to say the least.
Putting Ponder in isn't the question, it's the answer.
initially i took it hard cause the man that molded this team wasnt here anymore. I mean really, what other
team has that much influence of the team’s success and it’s failures. I know of folks who were anticipating his death cause they were tired of the regime…
sorta like how the iraqi’s hated saddam but then once the realized he was the one controlling the chaos and it wasnt the same. they wish he was still in his little spider hole jacking off to old episodes of friends… (iraqi war vet here)
anyway, where was i???
But overall, I want everyone to celebrate the mans life and at the same we have to get ready for a bumpy road a head cause we are venturing in uncharted waters with no “sole” proprietor.
Hue Jackson maybe an exciting coach but he doesnt have the experience as an executive to run an organization. Mark Davis is the equivalent to Jed York here in the bay if not less publicized. I think Amy Trask is someone special but I think combined with another great football mind and evaluator they will lead this team to the promise land of playoffs and winning seasons.
do you think the Vikings will move?? how does that impact Minnesota?

I personally don't think they will move,
but if they do move it’ll be a pretty big hit on Minnesota. They’d probably realign to be in the NFC West because in most cases they’d be going to Los Angeles. Also, the team has already claimed that if they move then they won’t be known as the Vikings anymore; they’re keeping claim of the trademark name. I live in Seattle, so I’ll still root for the team even if they do move because I don’t live there anyways. But I’m sure several people who actually live in Minnesota would be devastated.

"THE TIME TO WIN IS NOW" - Coach Hue Jackson
Raider Nation, all hand's on deck or get the hell off the ship! That's the way it's gonna be around here from now on! If a 7th & 5th round pick gets you Aaron Curry (a former 4th overall 1st rd. pick) instead of a couple of crap-shoots a year later, then fine and if dealing away a couple of first rounder's gets you a proven franchise quarterback like Carson Palmer and a legitimate shot at the playoffs, then great, you know why? Because our team is standing behind it's motto & legacy, "Just Win Baby!" and "Commitment to Excellence" instead of "Suck for Luck" and "Give Up". Imagine if you were a fan of a team that actually bought into that!?!
Cheers,

AL
Al was probably loved and hated by the most devoted Raiders fans. I have been a fan since 1963 at age 8. It was difficult from 2003 – 2009 watching the team. Many bad draft picks. Finally, Al hits his stride in the last two years with fantastic drafts and then he is gone. Just a lot of mixed emotions. I was there for the Take 5 Al protest in the early 1980’s before he moved the team.

Singleterry Isn't The Problem
its your drafting over the years. Seems like Vikes only go for offense, every since EJ got that bad knee injury he isn’t the same. With no Ray Edwards or Pat Williams there goes a blow to the D-line. To me Toby Gerhart, was the dumbest pick for the Vikes, why draft him when you have AP, You could have got an veteran in the FA to be his backup, not like AP is going to be out for more then 2 plays. Now look at the worst of the worst, CB’s, in 2011 there were alot of CB’s on the FA market and you decide not offer any (not sure about this, never heard any news.) Btw, you take a gamble on a QB that was going downhill already, I mean with all the distraction from the year before and you still sign him. I blame the GM and whoever is not making an effort to improve your team needs.

I think the biggest problem with the linebackers is not having as much attention from Leslie Frasier.
He was an amazing defensive coordinator and now he doesn’t have as much time to concentrate specifically on that aspect like when he was the DC.

I have to agree with you on some things
We do draft defense we’ve been drafting CB’s forever it seems, just can’t do a good job of it. We as a team seem to do a solid job on the first round pick then completely crap the bed on all the others do this enough times and your teams starts losing it’s foundation. That’s exactly where we are now. The third and fourth round usually fill certain positions and right now we are hurting terribly in those areas. O line, safety, LB’s for example.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
Ironic.
Because we’ve been the opposite over the years. While our first rounders have either been howlers (the fat one) or questionable (Huff, Heyward-Bey) Al had few peers in finding mid and late round steals even till the end.
"In football, I root for the Oakland Raiders because they hire castoffs, outlaws, malcontents, and f*** -ups, they have lots of penalties, fights, and paybacks, and because Al Davis told the rest of the pig NFL owners to go get f***ed. You won't find any arguement about our drafting
It’s been absolutely terrible for years outside the first and second rounds, and sometimes even our 2nd round picks are bad.
We don’t have an “official” GM. When Wilf bought the team, he split the duties into 3 positions. The HC deals with the team, VP of player personnel handles the scouting, drafting and the like and a third guy who I forget the title of handles contract negotiations and stuff like that. All 3 report to the president and ownership. I couldn’t tell you why he didn’t stick with the traditional GM → coach hierarchy.
Yeah, I like Frazier, but you can definitely tell he's a rookie HC. Not a big fan of Singletary ATM.
Our linebackers haven’t really been producing up to par with the rest of the defense (namely, the defensive line) and have blown huge holes in the passing game, also have lost some serious tackling ability that they’ve shown in previous seasons. Maybe it’s just the age of the linebackers, but I haven’t seen any improvement to be honest.
And McNabb…just sucks. Have you heard about the time that a Vikings fan ordered a McNabb at McDonalds and the cashier threw the food at his feet? Yeah, well if you get that joke, then you know what the problem is. :P

There's been a lot of talk here in LA about the Vikes moving to the City of Angels
With the lack of a new stadium deal and all, are you guys pretty freaked about this, or do you think something will get done in time to keep the Vikes in Minnesota?
Yeah...it's kind of a stupid situation.
To give you the brief, in essence, the Vikings have wanted a stadium for around 10 years. Red McCombs, the previous owner of the Minnesota Vikings, didn’t want to spend his money on a new stadium, knowing that he would be leaving, so just kept the lease because the future didn’t concern him. This also had to do with the state of Minnesota procrastinating on getting a new stadium deal done as well.
Fast forward to the present, the stadium deal has a couple of problems. Around last spring, the Minnesota legislature (Mark Dayton is the governor) said that if the Vikings found a willing partner and paid for a third of the stadium’s overall cost, then they would be given a stadium. The Vikings have found a partner in an Arden Hills site, a suburb in Minnesota, and the 400-acre land deal was approved yesterday. The Vikings want the stadium to cost about 1.1 billion dollars, and have committed approximately 400 million dollars to the site. However, now that the Vikings have followed up on their end of the deal, the legislature has yet to do so. Namely, Kurt Zellers and Amy Koch are strongly apposed to the Vikings getting a new stadium because they don’t want to come up with ways to fund it. Supposedly, they would call a special session by Thanksgiving. However, it was recently announced that they won’t address the issue until the regular session opens in January, when the lease to the Metrodome expires. If there is no deal when the lease expires, the Vikings will be “franchise free agents”, although the state of Minnesota will likely be their primary destination.
While Los Angeles has been discussed as a possible solution to the stadium issue, a couple of things came up with the situation; A) The Vikings probably won’t be leaving Minnesota if they can’t get a stadium in Arden Hills done, because a new Minneapolis stadium would be the runner up, as it has also proposed a plan…
And B) Three California stadiums have been pronounced below-average for the NFL standard. The NFL would probably not approve of another until serious funding goes into fixation of the 3 that are already there.
Personally, I think a deal will get done. It’s just a matter of when. So there you go! A brief summarization of the stadium issue.
"Like I said, I don’t think anybody on this team knows what schism is, let alone could use it in a sentence. I thought it was an STD when I first heard it. And I was like whoa, we preach abstinence around these parts." - Jared Allen
Very stupid of Minnesota government
Seriously, you dont want to fund 700m to keep a multi billion dollar business in state? That’s just nuts! The effect losing that team would have on their local businesses would be catastrophic. Minnesotans love their Vikings but are far too cheap it seems. Seriously, ur risking losing a major business for a relatively small amount of money in terms of the return on investment. They are lucky Ziggy really wants to stay in MN, I think its pretty neat that he wants an open roof stadium too.
As for the 4th stadium though AIG is paying for a state of the art stadium, the funding for it is already set in gold. The only thing they are waiting on is the teams to come and play there. Somebody is going to LA in the near future, I think that’s pretty much as good as fact right now.

even dumber they only have to fund 350 million
The county that the stadium is going into is funding the other part the Vikes aren’t covering. So there you go…

wow thats even worse then, although it definitely makes it more likely that they stay then i had thought though

it's tough because the state of Minnesota
is so far in debt that it has a real hard time with any expenditures at all.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
I'm wondering about that too.
Heard your stadium lease is up at the end of the season. What would the name be if they wer to move anyway? I think the key to the game is what you all said, if Ponder can get timely conversions with his arm or feet & keep the offense & AP on the field the Vikes will win. The key for Oakland is to play tight bump & run & force Ponder to beat them deep.
Trust No One
Studies show stress can kill you, but don't worry about it.
That's pretty much what I think,
if the Raiders can shut down the run and force Ponder to win the game on his own, they have a better chance of winning. It’d be much harder to stop the Vikings by solely taking away their passing game when the running game is their strength. Similarly, I think that if the Vikings can keep the Raider offense off the field and score points, then they’ll win the game. I think this’ll be a very competitive game. And a good one! :)

i think so too, im driving from Green Bay to go to the game. Are there any areas where opposing fans gather or should stay away from in the parking lot?

Good, Minnesota isn't hostile at all.
It’s much less intense than a lot of places. And the Metrodome crowd is awesome. You know, just stay away from the drunk guys, as per usual.

I don't think you'll have any problems
There was an incident that someone posted on the Lions’ blog about some drunk guy giving him shit but that’s par for the course pretty much anywhere.
On the whole, Vikings’ fans are pretty welcoming of other teams. There might be some ribbing but it’s all in good fun.
lol Minneapolis isn't Oakland...
You’ll be fine wherever you go. Crappy part is there is no real tail gating around the Dome.

is it not allowed or just not something people do?

There's no on-site parking
The Dome is situated at an intersection of 2 roads so there’s no parking lot or anything for it. Your best bet is to get a hotel reasonably close and just walk there. The parking ramps around the dome are kind of spendy.
thanks man thats really helpful!

Vikings need to get back to the deep ball threat
When they had Sydney Rice, Berian( Not Sure ) the ball was just thrown up for grabs and Vikes used to come out winners most of the time. Vikes have ran away from their identity, especially with AP, They line him up with just him in the backfield with no lead blocker most of the time. I’ll tell you this though, if we had him he would break Emmitt Smiths record easily. But back to the game, Raiders better play the same way and not get over confident. Veld better be ready for Allen, this matchup is the matchup that would cause us to mess up the game. If Jared can penetrate, then we have a problem. AP is dangerous no matter what, our main priority is him, let ponder throw his throws. Ponder, can be a difference maker since he is faster then Tebow and can throw better, but his problem is his decision making. Vikes have a handful to watch, I think D-bey gets back on track since there going to double D-moore. Going to be a good game, best of luck to you vikes.
RAIDER NATION
"There only can be one nation, The Raider Nation"
The biggest thing is pressure on your QB.
Since our secondary has been decimated are only chance of you not just going ape wild with passes will be in keeping your QB hopping back there with our defensive line. Honestly though I’m playing two of your receivers in my fantasy leagues this week. That’s how sure I am you’ll be getting some yards through the air.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
If we double cover Jared Allen
I think we’ll be right there. Our offensive line is really good.
"In football, I root for the Oakland Raiders because they hire castoffs, outlaws, malcontents, and f*** -ups, they have lots of penalties, fights, and paybacks, and because Al Davis told the rest of the pig NFL owners to go get f***ed. What happened?
Just two years removed from the championship game. Is it possible that you only went there because of Brett Favre? I’m stunned at the drop off I’ve seen from this year’s Vikings. AP is the best back in the league, IMO, and as far as I could see your defense wasn’t terrible with Jared Allen. What in the world happened in two years? Coaching? McNabb and a hurt Brett Favre? I expect the Vikings to bring their best this Sunday, I just hope my Raiders do the same. Ponder is a good QB, I think he will get better in a year or so. Sucks you have to play Green Bay at their peak, they’ve improved a lot under Rodgers. Your division is rugged, what with the reemergance of the Lions and the Bears. Do Viking fan’s take the Lions seriously now, or are they a one year wonder? As for the game, how do you stop AP? Is the Oline any good at protecting Ponder this year? You were very close to winning many games this year, what was the cause of these late game collapses? McNabb? Frazier? Good luck Sunday, should be a fun game.

Favre was a huge part of the 09 campaign
He stabilized a turbulent offense and his experience helped cover up a lot of otherwise glaring holes in our offense, mostly on the oline and receiving core. You guys probably wouldn’t know this but there was a quite a bit of tug and pull between Favre and Childress, Childress would call a play and Favre would change it at the line based on what he saw in the defense and sometimes would change the entire formation at the line. I have no doubt that we wouldn’t have made it to the NFCCG without Favre.
Then the ‘10 season started and we didn’t address any of our needs and our oline was plagued by injuries and poor play and basically got Favre hammered into the dirt and out of the league.
A lot of our problems stem from poor drafting. We tend to swing it out of the ballpark on our 1st and 2nd round picks but completely whiff on later rounds, which forces us to bring in not so great FAs who don’t solve the problem.
The Lions are legit. They’re slipping right now but they’re definitely a team to contend with and not underestimate.
The easiest way to stop AP is run up points on our laughable defense, forcing us to call pass plays to our mostly-laughable receiving core. AP carried the ball 14 times against GB on Monday night and was largely a non-factor aside from scoring our only touchdown. If they do give it to AP more, stack the right side of the box. Our runs to the right have statistically been for more yardage than to the left or up the gut, if you can take those away, it would go a ways to slowing AP down.
An oline protecting the QB? What a novel idea. I wish someone would tell that to our oline coach.
On the collapses, I have no idea. I don’t think anyone really does. They seem to have tapered off a bit since Ponder took the reins but I couldn’t pin point a definitive source, one way or the other.
Cool
We’ve had two significant 2nd half collapses this year and both led to “great” comebacks and victory for the other side. It sucks. We blame coaching for not adjusting. It happens. Favre has always been my favorite QB to watch. I enjoyed his play and felt he got bum raps with the Jets and the last year with the Vikes. He was hurt in New York for the 2nd half. He didn’t lose the NFC CG because of that last interception, I blamed AP for fumbling so damn much and the defense allowing the Saints to do what they wanted. WR’s also fumbled potential TD drives during that game. Yet Favre took the heat for the loss. And than, that last year was brutal. WR’s went down, players got hurt, the defense struggled, and Chilly Willy was on his way out of town, yet again though Favre took the blame. If he was a nicer guy to the media, and wasn’t involved with those scandals, I wonder if people would have laid off him? Either way, I was also wondering about how Viking fans felt about Favre?

Was happy to have him in '09 thought '10 was a stretch
but the worst part is you have a vet like that and you know you only have him for a year or two but you don’t draft another QB to take his place. I thought that was bordering on criminal and just couldn’t understand it at all. I think that was one of the major reasons Chilly got the boot.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
I did hear somewhere
that they wanted to take Jimmy Clausen in ’10 with the 30th pick, but Favre threatened to not come back if they did – anything to that?
(Then again, you probably got lucky on that one).

I doubt that I think at the end of 09 Favre had pretty much hung up his cleats
The only reason I can see he came back at all is because some of the guys on the team road tripped down and begged him to come back because Mr. Noodle was to much of an idiot to pick up another QB.
The reason we fell so far in my opinion is because half of our team was over 30 so we’ve been losing veterans and since our middle tier drafting is so bad we don’t have anyone to put in their places. That and in ‘10 we really didn’t have a QB or receivers when Rice was out with his surgery.

What does the DN think of "roninindeluth"? He shows up here periodically simply to troll, does he offer legitimate arguments on your site or just ignorant ramblings like he does here?

Very scary game!!!
The Rad-da’s defense has shown it cannot stop a strong running game. AP is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. This Rah-da defense lacks the PRIDE and POISE to stop him on 3rd and 1. Carson, Bush, and the rest better hope they can keep up.
Very generous of Peterson
“They’re playing outstanding on defense as far as what I’ve seen, and I strive to play well against good defenses,” Peterson said. “Just growing up and watching the Raiders, hearing about how great their defense was, and they’re pretty much back to their old ways.”

I hope he’ll still be that generous after he gets done humiliating the D.

let us pray lol
This is a definite trap game for the Silver and Black..play shit D in the 2nd half the way we have too often and we’ll get killed…AP is an OU boy I had to watch chew up my Longhorns for years, and he turned into the best (arguably) back in the NFL with plenty left in his tank. Btw, I’m Raider Nation in Oklahoma and raised in/by a Texas family for those of ya that forgot…
Crush your enemies...see them driven before you..and enjoy the lamentation of their women
STOP THE GOD DAM PENALTIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zebras are watching our EVERy single move!
Raiders have to develop IRON discipline!
If we let Vikes get repeated first downs off of penalties, AP will break lose and BREAK our defense!!!!!
We GAVE that game to the Broncos, are we going to give this one away too?
Charger game PROVED we can win ANY game if we cut the DAM penalties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry to much about that,
Vikes are killing themselves with penalties as well. Green Bay was going to pretty much kill us anyway but I think we had 90 yards of penalties in that game, and you just can’t allow that. So if you want a penalty tug of war I think you might get luckier than you think on this one.. :p

Okay, so seriously premature, and not overlooking Sunday's game
But your thoughts on the Bears and Lions?
Both tough games, but I think both are winnable. The Lions mores than the Bears.
Especially because of how bad the Lions have looked as of late (as well as the fact that they only beat the Vikes by 3 last time with McNabb at QB…) A little more worried about the Bears. They look really good.

The Bears pose the greater threat for us. We aren't playing well at home (the Black Hole has become acursed)
and our DC doesn’t know how to both stop Forte’ and deal with Cuttler – but can focus only on one task or the other.

And BTW, Vikes
Thanks for being so civil. Normally we get fans of other teams in here, and they’re mostly saying, “You Raiders fans are thugs!! Hope you all die!” and such things. Much as I normally enjoy the negative reputation we have, this has been a refreshing change.
YOU STAY CLASSY, MINNESOTA!
Cheers,
- Saint
