Is Elway being savvy  or do they simply need the roster space.  Initially I thought that Elway was looking to improve the Raiders opponents on the stretch run.  Scenario's after the jump...

Perhaps no one relevant acquires Orton and this move has a net zero effect.  Or either CHI, MIA, or KC claim him and there is clear effect on both the Raiders and Broncos future.

If the Bears acquire Orton he may not be ready to face the Raiders (given limited practice time).  And in any event he would be more acclimated to the system for the Broncos game on week 14.  Net Effect Positive for Raiders.

If the Dolphins acquire Orton he will be somewhat acclimated by week 13.  And the Broncos already beat MIA in week 7. Net Effect Positive for Broncos.

If KC acquires Orton he will be ready to face both the Raiders and Broncos in weeks 16 and 17 respectively.  Net Effect Equal
