Yes!! This is the best victory of the season. Not the best played game by any means but absolutely a great victory. Our defense came through big time today except for letting the Bears score so quickly with 2 minutes left. I was still nervous up until Caleb Hanie decided to end the game with the strangest intentional grounding ever.
What more can be said about Seabass today! 6-6 in field goals today was a new Raider record. Every year that passes shows how good of a kicker Jano is, and how bizarre it is that he is yet to be voted to the Pro Bowl with the most votes for an AFC kicker. Sure he was an alternate last year, but its a shame he hasn't gotten voted in as the initial starter yet.
Aaron Curry is already worth more than what we paid for him and our entire defensive line played great today. Curry seemed to be everywhere on the field today. His pressure was the reason we got one interception and his play on a screen pass to Forte might have been even more impressive. Seattle might have got a bust, but we got a leader and a playmaker.
The offense did very well up until they were within field goal range. Once they were within Jano's distance their momentum would be shattered. The offensive line was just man handled today. However, when the Raiders finally got their touchdown it was a shining moment of achievement for the offensive line with the biggest hole opened all day for either team. Marcel Reese was definitely The Beast today with 5 catches for 92 yards. His screen pass catch and run was the best offensive play of the day. DHB and Chaz Schilens also had some great catches for the Raiders in this game. Considering we had Ford and Moore out today, I would say our receivers did very well today. Even Louis Murphy came up huge with the play that set up the Raiders lone touchdown.
The defense was great, as they shut down Matt Forte big time today. They still gave up far too many rushing yards but it wasn't to the Bears best playmaker. We still are having a horrible time at keeping containment on QB runs and it needs to be fixed. Aaron Rodgers will make us pay if we let him have those lanes to run when a play breaks down. The 3rd and 18 scramble by Caleb Hanie that resulted in a first down had me screaming at the TV. The 81 yard reception directly after Bush's TD run was pretty terrible as well. Oh well, it doesn't matter since we got the big win today!
We still have not had a game where all parts of our team shined. I find that to be a great sign. The best teams win when they make mistakes. They overcome them and hit their stride just before playoffs and make a run. That is exactly what we are setting up to do. We are on the verge of being really special when we get it all working together. I haven't been this excited in a long time and it is starting to feel really nice. The Broncos keep winning too and are still only 1 game back so we have to keep it up, but I believe in this team and can't wait for the greatness that is on its horizon!
