I don't know what happened to this team. It started off promising but has since gone down hill. Eh, shit happens. Our beloved Raiders have overachieved this year. Our defense hasn't been good all year, they have till this point been serviceable. Our D Line, as I've seen lately, is overrated. The DB's,IMO, are improving though. Our safeties have sucked all year, so this is no surprise. Curry has played pretty damn good though. The big issue on defense seems to be leadership, they have none. Our defensive coordinator is a joke. Seymour is no leader. His stupid penalties and general aloofness are not leader like qualities. McClain is too young and possibly just not ready for the leadership role he has been thrust upon him. And his "incident" just confirms his stupidity in terms of leadership. Worst of all though, our D does not have heart. When they get behind, they sort of just lay down. Look at Chicago, despite their terrible offense that D comes to play everyday. Our D, does not. The look on their faces say it all. Recommendations? New coordinator and a veteran leader who commands respect, preferably in the safety spot like Rod Woodson did back in the day.
As for the offense, come on doom and gloomers. Seriously, in the game thread alone and I'm sure in the near future posts, everyone wants Palmers head. What in the world was the nation expecting? Did you all buy into Hue that much? Hue had us all believe Palmer could take this team with no worries. However, lets look at the facts. Palmer did not play football in what, 9 weeks into the season? He wasn't in football shape. He had no training camp or real SOLID time with his players out there. He doesn't even know the whole playbook. What we have seen so far is inconsistency. Part is Palmers, for sure. He has thrown some bad interceptions. But shit people, he has been throwing to DHB (Sir Drops a Lot) and Chaz (surprisingly not glass). He has never even played with DMC at all (or as I'm now calling him, Glass Slipper). He has a running back in Bush who runs up the middle and when that isn't there, well that's it really. Boss is a great blocking TE. That is the end of greatness from Boss. You will hear it here first Nation, and please mark this post if you would for next year, PALMER WILL BE BETTER! His deep ball is still superior to Campbells. And when Palmer has Ford and Moore out there, the results have spoken for themselves.
Say what you will about draft picks. I don't like em. Our organization has never had what I would consider a masterful draft. Al liked fast receivers and dynamic running backs. Oh, and faster corners too. What gem did you want to get in the draft this year? Cliff Harris? Guess what, given his troubles, he may fall to us in the 5th anyway. Our QB drafts have been just as terrible in the past too. Do we get some diamonds every now and again, of course we do. It is the draft, not exact science. And the team is pretty damn young out there. We really don't need to get younger. Especially morons who are involved with allegations of discharging a fire arm or enjoying the purple drink. I don't discount the draft, I'm just saying that we have the pieces to make a run now (except at safety maybe).
This will not comfort you all, and undoubtedly if you hated the Palmer trade then you will still hate it now. So what if this season goes to shit? It isn't over yet, not until mathematical elimination. Then I will concede. If JC was here, yeah I think our chances would have been better. If only because he knew the players, had chemistry with them all, and most of all he knew the system and the playbook. If DMC was out there, well that would just be nice huh? And our O Line, wow have they dropped off a bit. They need to regroup, we have all seen how well they can play. They need to adjust to Palmer better. I'm convinced this is all because JC went down. Since then, everyone has had to adjust. Maybe we don't deserve playoffs this year. I wouldn't want this team in the playoffs without DMC, Moore, and Ford. Still, I'm not mad anymore. 95% of you knew in your hearts we were going to lose this game, and possibly big. Especially after Miami. Stop being stunned by this people. You have all called out the deficiencies of our team and now you seemed stunned by the results of it. It sucks to lose, no doubt. But as a Raider fan of the last 20+ years, I've seen worse. I've seen better. In the end, I still like this team in the future. Fire the DC, get a veteran safety presence, maybe a veteran leader type MLB, and hire a new medical staff. This is no kool aid drink, haters will hate lets face it. The Raiders are on the rise, just not this year or as fast as we all wanted very badly. Settle down Nation, support your team and maybe good things will come. Or at the very least, some of our hurt guys come back soon to finish the season strong no matter what. GO RAIDERS!!!!
