CARSON PALMER=BEST RAIDERS QB EVER!

lets be honest guys! when jc went down against the browns we all felt our season was in shambles i almost cried the whole week because we all know kyle boller should not be wearing an nfl uniform WHEN WE HEARD THE NEWS ABOUT CARSON PALMER COMING TO THE RAIDER I WAS IN AWE! when i look at carson palmer i see a qb who has pinpoint accuracy, great mechanics, the drooling accurate deep ball which gave al davis a hard every time he called it before palmer!. i want you guys to seriously think abut my post. i have been a raiders fan since 1992 (8 years old) so you can imagine all the qb's saw as a raider. lets look at before my time:

kenny stabler: accurate, not a strong arm ,a drunk!. i think our team was more talented anybody couldve been qb for the raiders that is how good our team was in the 70's.

darll lomonica: deep threat thrower, nothing else! when zone was implanted in the nfl he became terrible!

jim plunkett: atheltic, mobile, bad mechanics! again we had a great team when we won the title in 83 all plunkett had to do is not turnover the ball, and hand it off to marcus allen

the 80's were HORRIFIC FOR US AFTER PLUNKETT(ie shrieder!) so lets move to the 90's

jeff hostler: great accuracy, good arm strength ,INJURY PRONE! if you pushed that man on the ground he was injured! WHEN HEALTHY HE WASN'T THAT BAD!

skim through the 90's jeff george, bust, vice evans :old,

RICH GANNON!: journey man, accurate, sidearm slinger, smart , leader , WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID! this guy threw 5 picks in the super bowl , THE NEXT SEASON HE FORGOT HOW TO PLAY FOOTBALL HE WAS HORRIFIC. i have never seen a qb drop off the face of the planet after winning mvp prior! lets move on

2000's kerry collins drunk and bad, arron brooks: bad!, daunte culpepper: washed, josh mcown: BAD! JAMARCUS RUSSELL: some people dont apprciate being in nfl he was one of them! BAD! AND NOW.....

JASON CAMPBELL: lacks leadership, accurate middle to sort passes, terrible deep ball accuracy: not mention his decision making is scary and conservative. AL DAVIS DIED AND SENT US A FORGIVING PRESENT!

Carson palmer will win a ring with us right now hes still learning the playbook and is damn near throwing for 400 yards this is insane for ANYONE TO CRITIQUE QB WHO WAS FRESH OFF THE COUCH AND DOENST KNOW THE FULL PLAYBOOK. BEWARE OF THE RAIDER NEXT YEAR BUDDY BECAUSE HE GOT A QB MY FRIEND!

Palmer? After 7 or 8 games you want to crown him the greatest ever????? LOL

You left out the ONLY Raiders QB to be inducted into the HOF, George Blanda. His stats weren’t much by the time he got to the Raiders, but still the fact that he even flung the ball up to age 47 is remarkable. And as of today Palmer is ranked by ESPN as the 24th best QB in the NFL. Which is behind Tavaris Jackson, Mark Sanchez, and Tim Tebow. The best ever? Not a chance in hell….

Wrong in so many ways

you sound like a fanboy. First Palmer isn’t even close to Gannon. You show all the other QB’s Faults but none of Palmers. Until we fix our Defense don’t talk about a Superbowl. Palmer isn’t good enough to carry this team without any help from the defense.

by Micheal Y on Dec 22, 2011 11:27 PM PST reply actions

Gannon was garbage

and predictable. If Gannon had any skills other than what he showed, then they could have changed the playbook. But when your deepest pass is twenty yards, how are they going to change.

by Sbay on Dec 23, 2011 2:58 PM PST up reply actions

you don't have a clue

the deep ball has nothing to do with being a great QB. How many Playoffs win does Palmer have 0 how many MVP’s 0 I have never seen a QB with 10 td’s and 13 ints become so great.

I know we don't always agree

but there are alot of greats that played here. We had the greatest win% in the history of the game at one time until Palmer can get us there he is a nobody

Jury is out on him, true...

But right now, he will have to be the damage control plug for the hole in the ship.
I cant count this season as a true indicator of his talent after 9 years and some up and down seasons at Cincy, and his parachuting in after 6 games wete gone.
If he is our starter next season, we shall see.

Dude, they were friggin old the whole time ...

Are you kidding me?

We fell apart because Gruden was gone, Callahan sucked, and called us ‘the dumbest team in America’ or some shit.

I’ll never go along w/the ‘Gannon was Garbage’ line of thinking. Was he Marino, Favre, Manning, or Brady? No. But the dude was a DAMN GOOD QB overall. I’d kill to have to him back, esp. for what we gave up for him, given what he ended up doing for us.

by Brett J Valjalo on Dec 23, 2011 8:07 PM PST up reply actions

Palmer knows the playbook...

"I’m coming along well," Pryor said. "I’m really getting used to the speed of the game from the defensive perspective of getting in on me. It’s getting better. I can’t really complain. I just got to wait."
That doesn’t mean Pryor can’t spend his time gleaning information from three veterans, as well as offensive coordinator Al Saunders and Jackson.
Pryor finally is at the point where he feels comfortable with the offense, and he is ready to put into action the things he has learned the past four months or so.
"I can say the plays and I got everything down," Pryor said. "I know the protections. It took me about two or three months. It was frustrating because I didn’t get to hit the ground running. It took me awhile to catch up because I didn’t start from Day One. But now, I’m ready to go."-Terrell Pryor

If Pryor knows the offence as a rookie, you can be pretty damn sure palmer knows the playbook pretty well by now too. So the lack of knowledge of the offence excuse is gone now. He’s had his time to get into the flow of things. Hell, he’s even running some no huddle, which its been a long time since we’ve had a QB that can excute it well. So I think he will do well with a full offseason and training camp, but lets stop the speculation, hope for the best and see how things work out.

by Mallard Davis on Dec 23, 2011 8:11 AM PST reply actions

Sure thing ...

It’s just you’re talking here like the time has already passed, and he’s done greater things than Snake, the Bomber, and Plunk in a Raider uniform.

Obviously, he has not … and hopefully the operative word here is ‘yet’ … but until it’s done, I can’t go along w/your bold claim here.

Dude hasn’t even led us to a single come-from-behind victory yet, let alone won a playoff game.

I’m all for being excited about CP3, but … the greatest Raider QB is much too lofty a title.

BTW, what do you got against drunks, anyway? AFAIK Collins has been sober since like … forever. If he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have stayed in the league this long.

by Brett J Valjalo on Dec 23, 2011 2:46 PM PST up reply actions

we got blew put!

2 games and then last week we had a blocked field goal

by tatum25 on Dec 23, 2011 4:58 PM PST up reply actions

No way, dude ...

I like Palmer and I’m glad we’ve got him (the price is another matter), and I’d go along w/saying Palmer is the most physically gifted and complete QB the Raiders have ever had on the team, or something along those lines. But the greatest Raider QB, I have to give to the Snake.

For Palmer to unseat the Snake, I’m going to have to see him turn into a field marshall, a bona-fide Leader of Men that you can count on when the chips are down to rally the team from behind, both in regular season, and in playoff games, and see him win a Super Bowl with the Raiders … before I’m crowning him the Greatest Raider QB ever.

In short, time will tell. He has the physical tools, no question in my mind (although I still think he needs that elbow worked on because his velocity is NOT what it was before that injury) … but does he have the heart, and the ability to LEAD US TO GLORY like The Snake did?

Plunkett I like a lot, and he did lead us to 2 WB wins … but you’re kinda right … all he had to do was hand it off to Marcus Allen, and rely on a monster defense. He was more a game-manager type … but I’d still put him WAY WAY above Palmer in the hierarchy of greatest Raider QB’s.

by Brett J Valjalo on Dec 23, 2011 8:12 AM PST reply actions

Rich Gannon

was taken out by a dirty hit. How many other league MVPs are on the list? He threw 5 picks because the dumbass coach didn’t change the playbook and played the guy who wrote it in the SB.

Hostetler took a shoddy team to the playoffs and beat the doncs. Love that guy.

Plunkett has one more ring than Brett Favre and two more than Dan Marino. Just sayin’.

Snake was a drunk but got it done on the field.

CP has the potential, especially after the great game he threw last week. A little help from the D and he can lead us to the promised land.

by rightnasty on Dec 23, 2011 9:57 AM PST reply actions

Not even close

You are not the best QB a team ever had when you miss not only 1 but 2 wide open deep guys which probably meant the game and the play offs. JC opened his wallet and paid to have players come to a Mini camp to give us a chance when it looked like there might not even be a season, which to me shows the leadership you accuse him of not having. Palmer quit on his last team “trade me or I am taking my ball and going home”.He has not proven anything so I am not ready to annoint him that. The Raiders were 4-2 when Campbell was playing now after dropping valuable picks they are 7-7 wow that makes him what 3-4 and 1/2. The half game because he threw those picks in the 2nd half of first KC game.
That being said if he plays 4 – 6 more years and wins the Bowl 1 or 2 times then I would say maybe yes.

by Canadian Raider on Dec 23, 2011 11:11 AM PST reply actions

and JC could come in during the middle of the season and do better?

JC is average at best, he can’t even slide to save his life.
Proof are his past years on the Bengals, national Championship, and Heisman trophy.

You don't have to be Great to win a Super Bowl

But you can’t turn the ball over. Do you think the Bengals are crying because he is gone they a better with out Palmer. Andy Dalton has out played him. The only way we win a Superbowl is if Palmer doesn’t Turn the ball over and the Defense is much improved

by Micheal Y on Dec 23, 2011 3:15 PM PST up reply actions

JC's done nothing but help us win since he got here

Good chance we would’ve made the playoffs last year, had we left him in. I like the upside of Palmer, but no reason to speak bad of JC. You play to win the game.

In all fairness Gannon

had Tim Brown and Jerry Rice to throw to, plus a good D backing him up. And despite all that, he still choked worse in the SB than QB ever has. No excuses for the game he had.

Also it’s worth noting Blanda, Stabler and Plunkett had more career picks than TDs. Doesn’t necessarily make Palmer better, but certainly not worse. Palmer’s at least ahead on those.

Cause we think your not right?…..lol Jerry and Tim were both getting pretty old . You think Gannon sucked because Gruden knew all the Plays. The sad fact is that Superbowl changed because the Alstot drive tired a shitty D and put Tampa ahead then with the Raiders playing from behind Gruden had The Raiders and Callahan right where he wanted them .Throwing the ball.. Palmer had more turnovers than TDs again this week and the Bengals found him expendable. Not to mention he pouted when he wanted out of Cincy. Carson spends all that time in the film room and training blah blah blah. Stabler partied all night and still won based on his talent. Marino had lots of records but no SB .As a result he is not considered the greatest, Fran Tarkington is another example. The only thing that matters in this league is winning. Based on that he IS NOT the greatest Raider

by Canadian Raider on Dec 26, 2011 4:34 PM PST up reply actions

See, this is classic Raider mythology
You think Gannon sucked because Gruden knew all the Plays

It’s simple really. They are wearing red shirts. We are wearing white ones. You throw it to the guys in the white shirts, not the red shirts. Basically you’re saying it’s Al Davis’ fault that Gannon threw 5 ints, including 3 pick sixes for trading Chucky. Doesn’t matter if they know the playbook, it’s the execution on the field that makes the difference.

Stabler partied all night and still won based on his talent.

Stabler partied all night and still won based on his talent because of a great defense. Let me fix that for you. Really it’s a shame, that when people think of the Super Bowls, they don’t remember Willie Brown, Lester Hayes, Villapiano, Ted Hendricks, Howie Long. They only remember the QBs.

by rightnasty on Dec 26, 2011 5:15 PM PST up reply actions

No your right I remember Marcus Allen

I also remember Jack Squirek ,BUT your misdirection to defense does not strengthen your Palmer declaration

by Canadian Raider on Dec 26, 2011 5:25 PM PST up reply actions

I think

Tatum means it more literally than I do.

1) I find this post refreshing as opposed to all the “Palmer sucks. We’re never gonna win with him” diatribes we’ve been listening to ever since the trade was made. Then we have to have lurking Bengals fans chiming in as well just to try and drive the point home.

2)Palmer’s career stats do compare favorably with the most famous Raider QBs, and particularly if he can manage to keep the picks down. That’s just the weird part because he has a horrific day against a lousy pass defense like Green Bay’s (thought GB is leading this year in picks even without Palmer’s), then comes out against Detroit and puts up a solid day but for one big overthrow (the Schilens pass is debatable). But that game against Detroit shows he can do it, go without picks and still throw for an 80% completion percentage. 80%.

It’s all subjective anyway when you get right down to it. All a matter of personal favorites. I do like Stabler, for the record. Often wonder why the Org doesn’t hire him in some capacity.

Are you serious

Our Offense carried our defense because we could score so much. Our defense could stop the Pats in the tuck rule game. you tend to forget they drove down the field and we did nothing to stop them after the call. You all talk like Palmer is 24 and hasn’t reached his prime. Gannon was the best QB in the NFL the short time he was here. Palmer has never been the best QB in the NFL. Can some one name an important Game Palmer won or a big drive. The way you all are going next season Palmer is going to be better than Elway

by Micheal Y on Dec 23, 2011 7:03 PM PST up reply actions

Looking at the big picture?

When Gannon was with the Chiefs, Vikings and Redskins, his stats were average to bad. Only when he joined the Raiders did they explode. Why do you suppose that was? He didn’t carry anything. He had two of the all-time greatest receivers to throw to.

The defense was 11th ranked their Super Bowl year. Know what it is now?

Okay you playing the numbers game

The Colts defense was ranked 3th in the 2007season did they have a great season. No when you have a offense thats score so often its easy to play defense. Gannon was without a question the leader of our Offense when he was here. Can you say this is Palmers team, No DMC is the most important player on our offense. You all can flip it any way you want until Palmer does something he isn’t on the list of Raider QB’s you bragging on a guy who has more ints than td’s this season

If carried=losing the Super Bowl for your team

Then Gannon indeed carried the team. 5 picks in one game? Everybody was screaming in here about Palmer had 4 picks in a game we were going to lose anyway. Funny how forgiving people are when Gannon does it in the Super Bowl, the most important game of all.

Note, I’m not really saying he’s better than Gannon, I’m saying it’s impossible to compare them fairly.

by rightnasty on Dec 23, 2011 7:33 PM PST up reply actions

In fairness to Gannon ...

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a football game where it seemed more like the Defense knew EXACTLY what the opposing offense was going to attempt to do than how it was in that game. We just absolutely COULD NOT get ANYTHING going on offense. Gannon had no choice but to try to take that game onto his shoulders … but when the D reads everything you’re trying to do, well … no QB could overcome that.

I’m not excusing Gannon, we did choke in the biggest game of his career, but he DID get us there to begin with. He may’ve sucked throwing the ball >20 yards downfield, but within the first 20, he was pretty deadly. And most importantly, he was a Leader of Men … he had that intangible quality that, imho, means much more than being able to throw it 50 yards on a rope.

was we did not have out starting center and our backup was just no where near as good! the line was way off balance and could not give Gannon the protection he needed to get into his groove! Your a dumbass

You obviously are to young to have realized the great things those QB’s have done for us. You never saw them play week to week and are going off on stats or what maybe someone else told you. Lamonica revolutionized the game! Stabler was unique and did his thing which won us a bunch a games along with our first Championship! Plunkett won two Championships with his leadership! Rich Gannon was awesome the during his tenure and would of won a couple of Championships if it were not for Gruden leaving. Gannon and Gruden complimented each other and thats why Gruden didnt do much after leaving Oakland. The Bucs Championship was Tony Dungy’s cuz that offense was mediocre. Anyway, Rich Gannon was a field General and I was hoping after his retirement he would be our QB’s coach since he’s so demanding. Carson is good and looks crisp and I cant wait for next year after him having an offseason with us because he will do some damage. Now that we have a legit QB we need a legit DC. So, next time dont just google for your information, watch hours of film before writing negatiive on Raider Greats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOF means Great Palmer isn’t a HOF QB by a long shot. Palmer is an above avg. QB If you put his Career against McNabb he will lose and McNabb isn’t a HOF QB. Can some one name a great game Palmer has been in or Drive. When you talk about great you can name games. Brees Brady and Peyton are Great. Palmer isn’t even close to those guys. I am not knocking Palmer but the way everyone is crowning him and he hasn’t done nothing.

hes actually ALOT better than Mcnabb, i have no idea where you get your numbers from…. Carson’s numbers compare to Eli mannings numbers, actually even better…. Brees Brady Payton are pass great Carson Palmer is GREAT and is more than above average alot more.

The only Number that matters is wins

McNabb yards over 37000 Palmer 25030. Td McNabb 234 passing rushing 29 Palmer TD’s 165 and 6 rushing ;Ints 117 McNabb and115 Palmer . McNabb had a Wr one year Palmer has had the everything and never won anything a playoff game. All the guys you named have won regularly Palmer has never won. Eli Palmer both above avg QB’s. Eli only won a super bowl because of his defense. Eli isn’t carring the Giants they would won 3 or four super bowls if his brother had that defense.

by Micheal Y on Dec 24, 2011 6:01 PM PST up reply actions

spare me with those numbers

Palmer destroys mcnabb in Comp.% and Palmer never had an intimidating Def. he went as far as the bengals offense, and with Ocho being absolutely horrible in NE you really tihnk it was his talent that got him where he is? Nah Palmer played a role… Palmer is GREAT your seriously hating on your own QB

But remember palmers first year and second year he was on his way to being in there class then the injury then benched and hadent throw a ball in a game in nearly three seasons so i think a yr or two under his belt he will imporve and will he be that high caliber quarterback ..Who knows its one thing i see in him and thats his ability to read a defense and move around back there and adjust to what he sees ..So you and i know if you dont have that natural talent who the hell cares how far you throw the ball

by RIDENHI on Dec 25, 2011 3:31 AM PST up reply actions

what are you talking about?

Palmer hadn’t thrown a ball in 3 seasons? He’s played every year since he was drafted. He just missed preseason and 6 games this year, and that’s the longest he’s ever been out.

by Canadian Raider on Dec 26, 2011 4:47 PM PST up reply actions

The question was 'physically', right?

To be fair to George, I dunno that he was ever trained properly to be an NFL QB. The teams he played for sucked, and weren’t known for their QB development skills at the time. Maybe if he’s drafted by Belichick in 2000 he’d have turned out to be a damn good QB. He definitely had it all, physically-speaking. AFA the mental goes, I dunno if he’s not that bright, or he just wasn’t taught properly. Hard to tell … but he was definitely an annoying personality by pretty much all accounts I ever read, so … he probably would’ve never been ‘great’ as he didn’t have the leadership skills and personality to rally the team around him.

JEFF GEORGE WAS

a highly touted qb coming out of college who a “safe” pick in many nfl’s scouts minds is it his fault he was garbage? no he went to a garbage team! Lamonica: Legend.

Stabler: Legend, should be in the Hall of Fame.

Blanda: Legend, Hall of Famer

Plunkett: Legend, 2-time Super Bowl Winner, should be in the Hall of Fame.

Now, Is Carson Palmer a Legend? Nope. Will Carson Palmer be in the hall of fame? NOPE, AND I’LL PUT MY LOVE FOR THE RAIDERS ON THAT ONE.

These QBs were legendary largely in the mind of Raider fans. The simple fact is, the Raiders have had no truly great QBs. They won with their brutal defenses, when they won. When they didn’t have tough defenses, they didn’t win.

Hue Jackson

Hue Jackson may be the worst coach in the history of the NFL. As badly coached as they have been for awhile, this years team puts those to shame. Ridiculous penalty after penalty, but his decisions are even worse if thats even possible. Let’s talk real recent. Last weeks horrendous give away to Lions. First on third and three with no timeouts for Lions we throw a 40 yard pass Genius. But even before that why in the hell would you kick an extra point after scoring with 7 minutes to play. You have to go for 2 to go up by fourteen. No ifs ands or buts . With 7 minutes left the Lions are not kicking any field goals so a 12 point lead is as good as a 13 point lead but a fourteen points lead means you cannot lose in regulation time. SIMPLE. But time after time they just look foolish on the field. Too much talent for this ..COACH CLUELESS JACKSON GOT TO GO.

by RIDENHI on Dec 25, 2011 3:21 AM PST reply actions

QBs

You claim that what made Gannon good was having Brown and Rice to throw to. Okay, let’s look at the good and great QBs in our era who have had great WRs to throw to that made them great:
Gannon-Rice and Brown
Young/Montana-Rice
Culpepper-Moss and Carter
Brady-Welker
Aikman-Irvine and Harper
Drew Bledsoe and Terry Glenn
Steve Grogan and Stanley Morgan
Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson
John Elway and Rod Smith
Aaron Rodgers to Greg Jennings
Kurt Warner to Larry Fitzgerald
Bart Starr to Max McGee
Jim Zorn to Steve Largent
Brett Favre to Donald Driver
Steve McNair to Derrick Mason
Joe Montana to Dwight Clark
Dan Marino to Mark Duper
Jeff Garcia to Terrell Owens
George Blanda to Charley Hennigan
Warren Moon to Cris Carter
Joe Theismann and Art Monk
Kurt Warner to Torry Holt
Peyton Manning to Reggie Wayne
Bob Griese to Paul Warfield – this duo led to a perfect 17-0 season, the only team to do so.
Len Dawson to Otis Taylor
Dan Fouts to Charlie Joiner
Kurt Warner to Isaac Bruce
Kenny Stabler to Cliff Branch
Don Meredith to Bob Hayes
Daryle Lamonica to Fred Biletnikoff
Brett Favre to Sterling Sharpe
Tom Brady to Deion Branch
Sonny Jurgensen to Charley Taylor
Roger Staubach to Drew Pearson
Joe Namath to Don Maynard
Jim Kelly to Andre Reed
Terry Bradshaw to Lynn Swann
Johnny Unitas to Raymond Berry
Dan Fouts to Kellen Winslow
Dan Marino to Mark Clayton
Tom Brady to Randy Moss
Peyton Manning to Marvin Harrison
and lastly
Carson Palmer to Chad Ochocinco
What makes the QB is the WR. However, the true, great QBs were LEADERS. Their players RESPECTED them. And most of them knew when to throw it and when to take the sack. EVERY QB throws interceptions. However, the first drive in the game against Green Bay, and Palmer throws an interception is inexcusable. Palmer’s inability to make the correct decision to hold onto the ball and not throw it away to an opposing player out of fear is what makes him a lousy QB. The interceptions he threw in yesterday’s game are a perfect example of that. Rather than taking the sack, he throws out of desperation, almost EVERY TIME.
As for the Superbowl we lost to Tampa Bay, the deck was stacked against us going into that game. A hurt QB, a piss poor excuse for a Head Coach, Gruden playing against us, and facing what is among one of the BEST DEFENSES to ever be in the NFL spelled our defeat. Don’ t talk to me about Gannon and that Superbowl. I LIVE in the Tampa Bay area, and have to hear that every time I talk to a Bucs fan. Palmer is NOT a great QB, and he is NOTHING if he doesn’t have a good WR to throw to. However, he actually has to GET IT TO that WR or TE if he is going to be even a good QB. ’Nuff said!

by DavidS. on Dec 25, 2011 7:16 AM PST reply actions

Could have saved you a whole lot of typing

Career Interceptions-

Palmer 115
Plunkett 198
Stabler 222

And the TDs?

Palmer 165
Plunkett 164
Stabler 194

And yes, if it’s not about the receivers, then why was Gannon unsuccessful with 3 different teams before joining the Raiders? Look for yourself.

You can't wn this

because you have no idea what you are talking about. Palmer had TJ and Chad in there prime what did they win. Number lie the reason Dan Marino isn’t the best QB ever is because he never won. He has all the numbers but I can’t remember no important game expect the fake spike game. I never got to watch Plunkett or Stabler play but i know how important they are to Raider history. like many other players. Just the fact of you all comparing so unproven guy who has done nothing in to be remember to them is crazy.

by Micheal Y on Dec 25, 2011 4:53 PM PST up reply actions

On the contrary, I'm playing your game

The stats. You take great delight in pointing out number of picks for Carson without which you have no argument. I contrast these numbers with those of the past, and they tell their own story. It is simply not the results you hoped for. You offer me vagaries, and I offer you historical record. Your stubbornness is noteworthy, but useless for proving your point, unless your only point is that you do not and never will like Carson Palmer, which would be unfortunate because he is your QB now, and there will be no refund of draft picks no matter how much you wish it. You just make it harder on yourself with your constant stream of gloom and doom. You might as well drink the kool aid, otherwise expect to be miserable until Palmer retires.

by rightnasty on Dec 25, 2011 7:03 PM PST up reply actions

its not the just the picks you talk as if Palmer reach 100 TD faster than any QB

What has Palmer done? if he retired today he wouldn’t even be the greats Bengal QB and they have 0 superbowls. What on earths makes you think Palmer can walk thru the door and be better than guys who have won. you are comparing Palmer to the play years ago first of all many of todays QB have better number because its a pass happy NFL today. I don’t dislike Palmer I just don’t think he was worth the picks. Just because he is the QB doesn’t mean I have to sell the house. I have said the same thing all year we can’t depend on the defense. You all turned that into doom and gloom. Because many refused to believe it. You want me to go all in on a QB that has done nothing just cause he has been the best QB talent wise since Gannon doesn’t make him the best. Tony Romo is the best QB since troy in Dallas and that has won them how many super bowls. The only way Palmer becomes the best QB is if wins.

Johnny U was a change agent in the game in regards to the evolution of the QB position.

Manning may be calling his own plays, but these days that may seem special since so few do. Back in the day, almost ALL of them ran the offense on the field. Manning is almost a drama queen the way he audibilizes.
If Manning is the greatest in your opinion….you just dont have a lot of credibility…..especially here in the Nation. Aint all about stats or down field yardage.

JC ain't no bum dude ...

JC is a class act, and just because he’s not flashy and his accuracy ain’t great way down the field doesn’t make him a bum. He’s just from the school of conservative quarterbacking, so his numbers aren’t flashy. But I bet you give that kid a decent defense and he’ll win more games for you than he’ll lose, because he rarely makes the mistakes that kill your chances to win.

Generally speaking, the Raider Nation WILL SUPPORT their QB, as long as he’s not a friggin Bum … and that’s how it should be.

Tatum....

Old adage: when in a hole, stop digging.
Campbell may have been pulled…I was there, in Pittsburgh at Heinz Field when Cable pulled him out. Grads sucked. He threw a pick to Polomalu at the goal line, couldnt scramble, didnt move us and didnt put any points on th board. JC at leadt drove us to a Seabass FG.
Against that Steelers D, that day, no one could have beaten them. Grads ddnt even have a winning record…he had one spectacular day in Pittsburgh the year before.
I dont know how old you are, or what you know about Blanda’s achievements and his heroics in Oakland both kicking and passing, but in discounting him you expose yourself as a guy who has no idea of Oakland football. Stabler could throw 3 picks, but pull out a win….he would will the Raiders to win…Plunkett had the same power. Marc Wilson had a better arm than each of those guys, but he had cashew sized balls and had the same receivers Plunkett had…..no rings on his fingers.
I like Palmer, but he hasnt proved anything. All those guys, and I watched Gannon shred the NFC in Hawaii twice, were special. Palmer needs to prove it. Period.

by tatum25 on Dec 27, 2011 10:44 AM PST reply actions

I thought we would take him for sure ...

I mean, he’s from friggin Cal Berkeley, we needed a ‘franchise’ QB badly … the only thing I can think of is that Boller’s lack of success scared Al (God Rest His Soul) away from drafting a star Cal QB. That, and Rodgers wasn’t known for having a ‘big arm’, which as we all know was Al’s #1 criteria when it came to choosing QB’s.

… and then as fate would have it, Al eventually ends up hiring Boller as a backup QB.

The whole scenario is RIDICULOUS when you think about it, and it’s hard not to feel like that was one of Al’s many major screwups on draft day. Hopefully a proper GM who’s not beholden to ‘what worked in the 1970’s’ like Al will be brought in soon, and mistakes like that one avoided in the future.

Although to be fair, Rodgers may well NOT have ended up as the Rodgers we know today had he been drafted by the Raiders at that time.

or worst.
The Guy has only been here for 2 1/2 months, is still learning the playbook, still developing chemistry with an oft injured receiving corp and still has not played with McFadden.

It’s just way too soon for any judgment on Carson, good or bad.

Too soon to consider Carson Palmer the greatest ...

Kenny Stabler and Jim Plunkett won super bowls Daryle Lamonica , Rich Gannon took their Raiders teams to a super bowl the thing that they all have in common is they were leaders and had players around them plus when The Raiders where down 4th qurter and needed to score these guys would step up ( Kenny Stabler was a master of that ) . Jeff Hostetler was a good he was a warrior and had a hart of a lion but he took The Raiders to the playoffs a few times he also was on some bad Raiders teams and got beat up .Rich Gannon wasnt the greatest but he was smart and study game film like no other plus had good players around him and a headcoach who belived in him Gruden i only wish The Raiders got ahold of Gannon earliyer in his chreer i just think he good , smart and a leader . Now that super bowl with The Bucs they knew everything on what Gannon was going to do that day because evrybody knows Gruden told them so i think Gannon got a raw deal on that . I think it was Al’s fault for not changing the plays or doing things diffrent or mainly he should have not even traded Gruden ( but thats another topic ) . Jason Campbell was good i like him he was a leader for The Raiders and was on the right path on helping bring The Raiders back to the playoffs you have to feel bad for him on getting hurt when he did . Now Carson Palmer its way too earliy to call him the greatest hes has not got to the super bowl or the playoffs but i think in a few more season we will see what happens but i think Palmer can be good or maybe even great but only time will tell …..
