Chuck Bresnahan has brought a new dimension to our defense... or old if you want to look back. We needed to get more turnovers on this team. Now we are. We have 17 INT's which matches the total in 2001 with one game left, when we beat the Pats in the playoffs with Rod Woodson on our team (compared to 12 last year). We need to get that football from the other team. A lot of people blame the SB loss on Chuck but forget that Tampa's defense that year led the league in INT's with 31. It wasn't so much Gruden that beat us, but Monte Kiffin and Mike Tomlin. They grabbed 5 INT's from Gannon... 3 resulting in TD's. We need this turnover ratio to keep going in the right direction. So, in Chuck's defense, I'll say thanks and support Al Davis' decision to bring him back.
In this comparison I am going to use the Green Bay Packers since they won the super bowl last year. They are ranked 31st in defense and have a great offense. They're defense is 1st in the league in INT's which brings their points scored against ranking to #12 in the league at 21. Screws yards. Sacks and INT's. It's turning into more of a passing league so there is going to be yards. But, if you can takeaway the ball, all those yards mean nothing. I believe Al chose Chuck and Charles because they know how to get that football. That's what we need, folks, IMHO.
Granted our points scored against us is 26 avg. But, it is his first year back with us. His 2002 Raiders that went to the SB had 21 INT's.
Every game this year where we haven't got a turnover we've lost. 3 games. New England, Miami, and Denver.
