I looked through the list of free agents available this offseason and made some thoughts, especially on the Champ Bailey-case.
Let's start with Champ right away. I don't get the excitement of some people in speaking of him coming to Oakland. Honestly, Bailey is 32 years old and his performance is aging, also. Plus, he won't be there at a descend price, as he is an all-pro corner wanting to get his last big contract. At cornerback we gotta keep Nnamdi, no matter if we might be over the cap next season, and add another veteran corner. Don't get me wrong, I like Routt, as a slot corner he's great but we need more skill at CB. Therefore I'd like to see Phillip Buchanon back in Oakland, he is experienced, got another three years in his tank and still is a decent Cornerback. I had some thoughts on Ronde Barber over Bailey, but he's just way too old at 35.
As you all might have read, Chad Johnson recently called Hue Jackson "best receiver coach" he has ever had. Well, that makes me believe that Hue can get much out of our receiving corps, but in my mind we really need a veteran WR to mentor some of our young guns at the position. Who came to my mind were T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Santana Moss, though I would prefer T.J. over Santana. Santana might be the better receiver, but he would just be another deep threat, as T.J. is tough and has no problems fighting through the middle. As Carson Palmer once said "T. J.'s a physical guy; a physical blocker, physical when he gets the ball." In addition, T.J. really is a guy you want to have on your team as a personality. I did not talk about Vincent Jackson, because he got franchised by San Diego the day before.
At the o-line I can see us picking up Matt Light, if we get a bit lucky. He's one hell of an offensive tackle, has some gas left at 32 and in my mind, would be the perfect fit to anchor our o-line and teach the young guys like Veldheer or Campbell. We could then adress the center position in the draft. Well, honestly, we god damn have to.
As Linebacker I would love to see the Raiders signing Greenway, but that could become quite costly, as he will be the best OLB hitting the open market. Tamba Hali will stay with the Chiefs and LaMarr Woodley just got franchised.
Another good signing at OLB would be Clint Session, good in coverage, great tackling statistics, is a typical Tampa-2 Linebacker.
Now, let's see how the CBA negotioations work out and if there will be any free agency at all...
