"Sidney Rice..........Oakland Raider?"

With the Minnesota Vikings deciding to Franchise Tag Chad Greenway it means that Sidney Rice will be able to test the Free Agency waters. Should those waters be The Bay Area waters?

Personally, I like the idea of going out and signing Sidney Rice, even though the last MN receiver to come to Oakland was a P.O.S.. Just because Randy Moss failed as a Raider doesn't mean Sidney Rice would too. Living in the Midwest as I do I've had plenty of chances to watch Sidney Rice play. His career is very clearly segregated into two parts, Pre-Favre and Favre-era. As bad as he played before Favre is as good as he has played since him. Sometimes players are very late developers and the player that pops into my head when I think of Rice is Roddy White. Roddy White started off so slow that Atlanta wanted him gone. Bring in Matty Ice and BOOM! Roddy White is one of the best receivers in the NFL. If Rice can continue to play at the high level that he has shown these past two years, then he might just be a steal. I believe his price will be relatively cheap because of his bone head move of not having hip surgery at the end of the 09 season and then figuring out in the 2010 offseason that he probably should have. That surgery kept him out of the first half of the season, and kept him out of the headlines for almost the whole season. However,. when he played, he played extremely well.

I say bring him in. He doesn't seem to have attitude problems and if the Vikings let him hit free agency and do not give him a new deal he will have a very large chip on his shoulder. The guy can flat out run, and despite dropping passes every so often he can still win jump balls with the best of them. He reminds me a lot of Larry Fitzgerald as well as Roddy White. I would definitely not have a problem bringing him into Oakland, let me know what you guys think.

No, he is not an upgrade to what we already have at WR.

Nah

We need to be putting our money on O-line and Linbackers.

Yes please.

sidney rice, Jacoby ford, schilens/murphy, schilens/murphy.

This would be awesome. plus we’ll have a great running attack too, and we can focus more on OL in the draft, due to addressing our WRs.

I do like this idea

however I am slightly concerned with inconsistency and injuries. Also the unified message from the front office is “we are happy with the current WR group”. I take this as no huge FA signing or first pick WR draft. We have been burned way too many time on both accounts. I do like the upside of Rice though.

Getting Rice would be sweet, he's just the type I want...tall and fast with good hands

but it’s probably just a pipe dream. As LAP says the Raider brass has said they’re satisfied with the current group, were not, but they are. So I would love it, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Really can't afford skills guys right now

Just our key free agents and needs in the draft, but I freaking love Rice. Brittle though.

Really?....Keep what you got!

True Rice may be a good grab @ a good price, but if you ask me I would say you have a good core of players on both sides of the ball put your money and long term contracts there and groom the up and coming. If you want to build a bully you need to have a strong core.

the difference between Rice & Fitz is that

at one point in time they had efficient quarterbacks throwing the ball to them. Jason Campbell in his career has never been the type to rely on his WR’s, more so on his TE and his backfield… name any probowl WR of his? none. name Probowl TE… 2 of them come off the top of my head… in reality, when i think about it, JC is an average qb or slightly better.

And.. having a really good WR

should help him out a bit more. :)

and regarding fitz

his QB, Warner, only had one good year, and that was 08.

He put up consistently good numbers with an average QB.

Same with Rice. Favre only had ONE good year, and he played with Tavaras. Although they do have adrian peterson on that team, and we do have McFadden. :)

Let's hand out another jillion dollar contract

there are a lot of teams that want Rice’s services, the Vikings will over pay massively for him
