Looking forward , Oaklands 2011 Draft

Oakland's got its work cut out this year , they dont pick untill the middle of the 2nd rd , they need to come out of this draft with 2 O linemen , a CB ,  a TE (yes i said tightend , Oakland threw a buttload of money at Miller trying to get him signed before the deadline ,offers in excess of $7mil a year, he chose to test the free agencey waters instead. even if the rfa tag sticks under the new cba ,with the money spent before the deadline and a cap that may shrink by up to 10% , its gonna be dificult to match some offers ,and if hes back it will most likely be on a 1 year tender, and though there is talent in this draft it will take at least a year to develop most of them.),Oakland  will also be looking for a FS and a OLB .

Dont let us forget this is oakland ,regardless of need if we see a DE we like, need can go out the window ,so though i didnt list him ,due to a health condition he was born with Clayborn from Iowa is dropping like a stone and if he falls to the mid 2nd Oakland would not be out of line to take him regardless of need

In round two oakland will most likely go OT or CB , though if the right QB drops to them they may suprise everyone. there are several CBs with the coverage skills Al covets and a couple OTs that seem to be sliding our way.

RD 2

Dowling-cb-virginia , 1st rd talent with ball skills, quick feet, solid tackler, good character, was a top 5 corner coming into the year before injury slowed him down

Patrick-cb-louisville , quick feet ,man cover skills, 12 passes broken up & 5 ints as a senior, good recovery and burst, could be more agressive at the line but Woodson can coach this kid up, will drop to 2nd over character issues

Smith-cb-co , redirects wideouts off the line strong physical press corner good range and ball skills needs to improve consistancey , ive seen this kid play on grass not film and with Woodson's help this kid can be the real deal

Solder-ot-co , had him in the 1st rd but seems to be falling , LT ability ,possibly the highest ceiling of any tackle in the draft , has all the tools , the only problems with this kid can be fixed with proper coaching , has  gotten into trouble being out of position , gets his back turned the wrong direction making himself suseptable to inside moves , thats something that can be coached ,not likely to be there but falling fast enough to look at

Ijalana-ot-villanova-LT ability can play inside or outside long arms gets to the 2nd level and can nutralize backers ,4yr starter, comming off double hernia surgery, could develop into a starting LT or G in the nfl

Franklin-ot-mi ,moved to LT as a senior and gave Da'Quan bowers all he could handle, mean streak likes to slam defenders to the ground, powerfull run blocker, will most likely move to the right side in the pros with oakland moving to more of a power blocking scheme this is the kind of guy that could really thrive in our new system and brings a toughness weve been missing in the trenches

Watkins-og/t-baylor , tough and nasty would fit in well with Oaklands new scheme

Carter-olb-nc , i know , i know ,but for whatever reason the raiders have been determined to replace howard , and this kid has the type of athletic ability Al loves he is explosive ,can cover, just a remarkable athlete, not highly likely but we all know when our front office sees an athlete they like, need and public opinion can take a back seat , and if he falls to oakland he very well could be the best value on the board

Though not likely if Mallet, or Locker drop yes i believe we could see Oakland go QB in the 2nd

RD 3

Brown-cb-tx , man cover ability , natural cover skills , needs to bulk up and be more physical at the line

Sherrod-ot-miss st , not athletic enough fo left tackle not physical fo right tackle, but has long arms ,experiance, gets to the 2nd level ,is tough , walls off well in pass protection , i think he will develop into a solid LG in the NFL and Oak needs one of those

Boling-og-georgia , hard worker, solid run blocker, smart kid, refuses to give up ground,,solid positional blocker ready to start day 1

Hudson-c , maybe the best interior lineman in this draft nice feet quickness and tenacity ,excellent technique , though he lacks bulk regularly buries his competition in the ground

Cannon-rt/rg-tcu , a mountain of a man ,but doesnt play to size, not explosive bad footwork and hand placement  ,but strong, has good bend , more of a run blocker than a pass protector , has upside but most likely a right gaurd in the NFL, a dam good rg but 3rd rd may be a bit high for a rg

Kendricks-te-wis , can stretch the seam ,natural recieving skills, nice hands, leaping ability, willing blocker, improved his game in his only full year as a starter , needs to add bulk

Stocker-te-tenn , probably the best blocking te in the draft , solid short zone reciever ,good hands, solid in traffc, but wont be hitting the seam or going post on a defense which is crucial against a tampa 2 type defense

Carter-lb-fresno st , 16.5 tfl and 11 sacks senior year smart, tough ,compettitive hard worker ,excellent closing burst gets to the qb ,high motor guy, needs to be a little tougher in run support

Kapernick-qb-nev , strong armed kid , long way to go ,but  fits what oak likes to do

 RD4 and beyond

Green-te-nev, couild be the best recieving te in the draft , a long way to go but  2 yrs from now people will be wondering how he made it to the 4th or 5th rd, nice recieving skills ,injury issues , doesnt stay in top shape , but can stretch the seam

Brewer-rt-indy ...Carpenter-lt/g-bamma...Barksdale-rt-lsu

Wisnewski-c-penn st , makes up for lack of bulk , with good hand probably better suited to our old zone blocking scheme han our new scheme though , will do well against the speed interior rushers ,but may have difficulty dropping the anchor against larger bullrushing nose tackles around the league which showed while playin rg last year, tough hardworking kid with instincts

also kirlpatrick-c-tcu...o'dowd-c-usc

irving-olb-nc st - still comming back from injuries sustained in a car accident , but returned last year to rack up 92 tackles,21.5 tfl , and 7 sacks quick to diagnose times blitzes ,can hit ,and loves the game

Herzlich-olb-bc , 1st rd talent still comming back from a bout with cancer everything you want to see in a lb still working to regain speed and strength but some guys are worth betting on

also Addison-olb-troy,15.5 tfl,10.5 sacks...Moch-olb-nev ,22 tfl,8.5 sacks...

hagg-fs-neb , good size ,excellent cover skills can shadow slot recievers ,good tackler , needs to be more physical

If the raiders address cb in the 2nd they can get lucky and find a starter , though the ot position is thin this year there are players to develop and several with rt ability , the centers and gaurds we need are available on day to ,and as long as millers rfa tag standsafter the cba is done , there are tight ends with up side that can make an impact in a year or two, how ever i think the depth at olb , and rb class this year could provide the upgrade at the linebacker position the raiders have been looking for and also a rb to develop behind bush in preperation for his possible departure after next season
