Robert Gallery Will Not Return to Raiders in 2011
Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Robert Gallery and Mr. Davis had a conversation in the past few days and both made the mutual decision that the 7 year veteran would not return to the Oakland Raiders next year.
Said Gallery: '"With the end of the league year coming today, and the few conversations I've had with the Raiders and Mr. Davis, we've come to a mutual agreement that it's time for me to move on with my career. I appreciate the start that they and Mr. Davis gave me and I truly have enjoyed my time wearing the silver and black. I wish them well, I thank the fans and I take away great memories of my time in Oakland."
So S&BP followers, what are your thoughts on Gallery leaving and the Raiders replacing him on the offensive line?

Damn!!!
The best player on our already terrible offensive line. This will hurt more than most realize.
Mr. Vehldeer is our best O-Lineman
and Mr. Campbell may be even better, we will find out in seven months
Bring in Marcus Cannon!
Gallery came in overrated, got hurt, never reached his potential. Nuff said. Movin’ on!

Writing on the wall for the draft
The Raiders have to be looking at guys like Marcus Cannon and Jason Pinkston in the 2nd round. This move just put Bruce Campbell in the starting lineup for sure – hope he’s ready for it.
"When we play tough, and we play physical, and when we play the way we're supposed to play, can't nobody beat us." - Richard "SeaMonster" Seymour
^This is my sentiment exactly. He was the number 2 pick in the freakin draft and all he wound up being was our best GUARD. He can have a good career elsewhere, we can replace him. I wish him well but I will shed no tears.

Most Definately
Raiders need to sign Cannon & Wisniewski; although should we draft Paea in the 2nd, I would be almost as excited as coach Wauffle.
NO!
why would we draft a player at the strongest position on our team?
by RyanTheRaider on Mar 3, 2011 1:16 PM PST up reply actions
I expected him to go either way, whether it be him walking away or us wanting to move on and get another guy
He was very solid for us at times, but the guy made a lot of bonehead plays and led the league in o-line penalties for a while. Even when Loper came in for Gallery, it’s not like the o-line didn’t function. We needed to start fresh and re-build the o-line anyways. We’ll either sign a guy or draft a guy that will replace him and others.
i think loper filled in great for gallery,
i think he could be a solid starter for us

Goodbye
Oakland needs a fresh look anyway. We can’t expect them to keep fielding the same group and running the same tired shit and get a different outcome.
Now, go get Cannon. Might as well grab Kirkpatrick, too(if Wisniewski isn’t available) because I’ll bet Satele is gone, too. Hopefully we won’t have to stomach Carlisle again this season, either.
Refuse to tiptoe through life only to arrive safely at death
We all knew this was coming.
For some reason, he didn’t generate as much “need” from everyone here as much as Asomugha, Bush, and others that were signed already did.
Good luck to him, but hell, let’s get back to power blocking and build this line PROPERLY.

The Raiders have other options at LG.
For one they could draft a one in Cannon or “Wiz”,they could replace him with Lopper or Pears.they could even move B,Campbell over there or get a LT and move Veldheer inside.
"The time is now"
Hue Jackson
Vehldeer should be either a LT or C
He was physically dominate at C, but still had some learning to do.
I would like to see Bruce given a shot at LT or DE even.
Raiders need to cut more ties
to Mr. Carslie and Mr. Henderson or at least sign them to legue minimum as backups.
I’m okay with resigning Mr. Satele, but at the right price;
Lopers’ should also be incentive based.
Henderson played well at times but lacked consistency. I think we should keep Mario, especially now with a key Lineman leaving

Not the best thing, not the worst thing
As has already been said, Loper is a serviceable replacement for now. The real question, whatever happens with the draft and free agency, now becomes what happens with Bruce Campbell. His development, or lack thereof, will have a big say in what our OL looks like…

If Gallery wanted $8 million then he's lost it and cutting ties now is 'the best thing'

ya
he wanted a lot lol Loper wil do fine until the draft or there have been talks fo Campbell there but rather have him at RG or RT being its not the blind side and thats where he had his playing time
Injury prone
inconsistent and too much money for those things for a player drafted at his position to be moved to another position.
Who gives a shit, who gives a fuck?

agreed
if he would have been the LT they wanted when drafted they would have kept him, but with this huge class of Line man and him wanting 8 mil LOL he can walk to seattle for less prolly like 5 mil
I hoipe they give him
the $8 million he wants and is the exact player he was here for us.
Who gives a shit, who gives a fuck?
by TheLyleAlzadoPunch on Mar 3, 2011 3:46 PM PST up reply actions
Not exactly what I meant
I just meant that his leaving won’t kill the team, and had he stayed it wouldn’t have solved the problems on the OL.
I regret that he didn’t turn out to be the player that everyone thought he would be coming out of college, but that just goes to show how inexact a science scouting is…
Failure builds character; success reveals it
Well.... we can use the money to help sign Nnamdi.
Wis is a slight possibility. But we can DEFINITELY get either Cannon or Herzlich with our first pick. They both would be available, so its great that we have options entering the draft.
A Guard to look at is John Moffit, but maybe Bruce Campbell will get the nod at LG.

bruce
at RT or RG to athletic to waste his talent there. Alot of O lineman this year to fill that spot
yeah I know.
But Bruce would have to try out those positions sometime. At least let him try FB if anything. lol

how
do you know this? have any proof? Im jw because Idk how to find stats for O lineman
Nope he never played. Trust me, I watched the games closely.
I would notice if BC ever came in.
The RaiderLaker
He was always inactive, wearing athletic clothes, never geared up.
But I think he did play in the pre-season but never in the regular season. He looked ok, but then again he played versus the Boys’ backups. (and other pre season teams)
The RaiderLaker
not
Close enough. Come on now. PRO: Promising offensive lineman saw first action as a pro last season…

Cable must have felt we had a safe lead, he didn’t play as an o-lineman

Yeah... But not as a O-lineman. We are talking about Bruce as the future-
of the O-line no?
Then no, he never played official O-line snaps. I think he just needed lots of time to learn the system. ST was good play time to not discourage him, but he’s not a bright guy. Lets just hope he makes up for it by kicking ass physically.
If he did play a snap on O-line my bad.
The RaiderLaker
also
found this “He played in 10 snaps @RG in the Oak59 Den 14 game.
Played full time on ST and FG’s and Extra points”
and even then
is 10 snaps really a good measurement?

you also said
t RT or RG to athletic to waste his talent there. Alot of O lineman this year to fill that spot
now, if he played 10 snaps on the OL, do you think thats a good measurement to make tat sort of judgement? I know he can play as a FB maybe, but maybe he could also be a very good OL. We don’t know, and I don’t think 10 snaps is enough to make any sort of judgement on that.

Yeah... on a blowout...
Must’ve missed it as the big romp was to much, but he never played again. Doesn’t look super promising enough for me. “Come on now.”
But hopefully he improved. Can’t wait to see him in the Pre again!!!
The RaiderLaker
Athletic talent is only wasted if it has been shown to be used
Have we ‘wasted’ DHB’s athletic talent? Of course not, he hasn’t lived up to it. Campbell has not shown that talent that had everyone raving, although I admit that may be due to Cable not giving him a look.
If he shows he can play, and doesn’t, that will be when it is being wasted. Until then, he simply hasn’t shown that he can use it to play.
Failure builds character; success reveals it
even
if we dont draft someone, loper would do just as well, but I hope we draft wiz or cannon for this spot. Gallery wanted 8 mill a year and the raiders were willing to give him 2.5 lol
Campbell
Why does anybody think he can play? 4th round workout monster, right?
Exactly.
Everyone knew he was a project but now the rosey glasses come out…like Veldheer was the best O-lineman and that Loper was as good as Gallery. Not true on either count. Loper is a back-up at best and we’ll see how Veldheer progresses and whether or not Campbell can play.
Can we just thank Gallery for coming in, having his position changed to RT, then back to LT and finally ended up at LG while having 6 different line coaches (2 of whom were there at the same time during the bed and breakfast era)? I don’t get this “fuck that guy – he sucked” attitude. He played his ass off with makeshift lines (how about the idiots to his left he had to help all of the time?), played hurt and now he’s gone. I hope we find soemone as good or better.

That makes some sense
and I said something to that effect below. I’ll believe that when I hear it from Gallery though. The Raiders went out of their way to make a point of this when they didn’t need to.

umm
would you rather have henderson or him? Ok then. Plus he played last year in 10 games
Worst Case Scenario
We field Loper to fill in and maybe get a better overall product. That in my eyes is the absolute worst it could get at G, and that’s really not bad at all.
We’ll really find out where we are at with Bruce Campbell though. I hope this guy is still working and will be ready to step in with us getting rid of ZBS and giving this kid a real shot at being a monster. We know the scheme is gonna be power running which I would imagine would play to his strengths, especially if he’s inside playing G.
As for Gallery….Thanks for the good…..nah nevermind. Looking forward to booing the hell out of you if you ever come to Oakland again.

Good riddance
I will refrain from using the word bust, but I will say HUGE disappointment. Something seemed off to me when he could never hold a spot on the Oline. One game he was there, the next on the other side, one year he played there, and so on. Dude was NOT the “safest pick in the draft” because he never played up to his billing. Gallery never came close to being a pro bowl player, and should have a few by now after being taken that high. Meanwhile the Raiders have watched countless FA’s pass by as they committed to dumping huge sums of dough down Gallery’s pockets for mediocre play. I would much rather Al spend the money on Bush and let this guy go be mediocre somewhere else. I don’t want to see the Raiders as mediocre, I want them dominant and Gallery has proven through out the years he is not a dominant player.
Look to sign someone else who fits the power blocking better, Gallery is a ZBS guy. Use his money to get two or three guys, and upgrade multiple positions on the line.
Thats my 2 cents
Not to nitpick, but his hair was annoying
Especially when they would show him after a false start or holding lol. I remember during his rookie season, I went to a FedEx sponsored Raiders event and we got to ask he and Tyrone Wheatley questions. One of the qustions to Gallery was if he was going to stick with the long hair, and his response was that he was going to grow it a little longer and then donate it to Locks for Love. Here we are, about 7 years later and Gallery still has the same long greasy hair lol. Not that there’s something wrong with that, but I just found it annoting.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass
We can totally make some key moves for the future in this draft, and it will be interesting to get Bruce C. In the mix.

Don't Let The Door Hit Cha...
He wanted money like he was a prennial pro bowler. Did he ever made the pro bowl at all? He has been hurt quite a bit too. He was not that great and fortunately we have back ups who may be at least as good as him and we can hope they be better.
by Archangel25 on Mar 3, 2011 8:58 PM PST via mobile reply actions
He'll be missed
But not $8M worth. He was a pretty solid guard but with his injury history, can’t see signing him to a big contract. While Loper played pretty well in short stretches, not sure he could hold up as a starter—but he did endear himself to me with the ‘roller’ play, lol.
@WorldBLee
As much as it was teh right decision to let a guard with chronic back and knee problems walk so he can get more $$ it just means another hole to fill.
So the team record was the same without him but alot of that may have been Cable getting the most out of the hand he was dealt and now both are gone. More questions heading into 2011 as well as 2012 whether or not there is a season. Also I like Ijalana as a tackle and Cannon as a guard so those might the best first two picks this team makes if they are available in rounds 2 & 3.
Trust No One
Studies show stress can kill you, but don't worry about it.
this one i do get
gallery was drafted to be our left tackle for the decade , it took three years to develop into a gaurd , and then he couldnt stay on the field for 16 games ,he wants steve hutchison money and he aint no steve hutchison, gaurd is the one need im sure we can fill on the draft ,im way more concerned about finding a replacement for zack miller ,and an alternative at cb if jhonson cant hold down the startin cb spot
I liked Gallery.
But we should trade down in our 2nd and 3rd rounds, and pick up some extras in the 4th or 5th rounds a la last draft.
Then pick up a guy like Keith Williams who is a natural left Guard in the 5th or 6th.
This is a bad idea
we need some talent to fill the holes at O line and OLB and maybe DB. Take the guys available at those positions.

OLB are pretty deep,
so even trading down we’ll get somebody.
RT and RG is still a mystery considering what we’ll do with who we have: Walker, Carlisle, Campbell, Henderson.
And we still need a backup C.
The only thing I see trading up for is a Corner if Nnamdi leaves.
I never said trade up
I said keep what we have.

A lot depends on
Nnamdi, or even Zach for that matter. Though I like some of the later round OLB’s anyway, and if we can get what we need later, why not?
KJ Wright was who I was looking at, but it looks like he’s already jumping up some rounds.
