Darth Davis Mock Draft
Round 2.
FS Rahim Moore- 6'0 205 The Raiders could really use the services of a starting caliber FS. No one is really sure what is going to happen but the consensus among Raider fans is Mitchell and Branch both won't be able to play there, I think otherwise but given the opp to take a young talented ball hawk for Woodson to groom is the better option. Stevie Brown showed promise but not nearly enough to warrant the starting role and Eugene is a sp team ace but very poor in coverage, especially with what we ask in our FS. Moore is a sure tackler and film room rat that will transition well to the NFL.
Round 3
RT James Brewer 6'5" 320lbs- Good footwork and overall athleticism to match his size. Needs to learn how to use his hands more and become better refined at Pass Pro but has the capability to be a force in the run game early in his career. Many try to compare him to a RT version of Rodger Saffold. One of the knocks is that he isn't a mualer but he came to football later and Hue has enough fire to light up anyone. I'm fairly sure we can retain the services of Langston Walker and have Brewer compete for the starting role later in the year.
Round 4.
OG Clint Boling 6'3" 310lbs- Great Experience and technical know how for the offensive line, decent athleticism with really strong hands. Boling has started to slip on a lot of boards I've seen as the latest wave of players have been emerging in the 3rd and 4th. I could see teams passing on the Guard position as most of the time we seem to over value the position as mockers. Boling would make a great LG or RG.
Round 5.
CB Rashad Carmichael 5'11 190lbs- Man corner with great speed and good vertical. Has the ball skills to be dominate, but to become a better rounded he's gonna have to show more willingness in run support. Huge steal for the 5th where most are projecting him.
via www.thenationalfootballreport.com
Round 6.
Schuylar Oordt 6'6" 260lbs - I like Oordt out of the TE's for us because he isn't over valued and is a decent blocker as most of the TE's in this draft have similar attributes without the willingness to put in the dirty work on running downs. Oordt has the speed, vertical, and soft hands to be a force in the NFL.
7a. LB Mike Mohamed 6'3 240lbs- I would like to see what we can do with Goethel and Groves at OLB. Mohamed could even play OLB but for this we'll just say he's SP teams and back up. This young man is a tackling machine with the range needed in the NFL.
via www.pac-10.org
7b. DE Craig Marshall 6'5" 275lbs- All the potential in the world, but has been plagued with some injuries and sitting behind Selvie and JPP. Could turn into a great player with a little help from Mike Waufle.

All in all this is my mock gimme a grade please.

honestly Im not a fan of anything except for the linemen
Rahim Moore is not a sure tackler, he’s far from it, that’s the problem with him. He’s great in coverage but has many problems in the open field tackling and doesnt attack in run support, PASS!! fine with the linemen, but RASHAD CARMICHAEL IS STRICTLY A ZONE COVERAGE CORNER IN THE NFL, remember the last VT zone corner to wear the silver and black…heres a hint he was gone by week 8! he’s a big NO-NO! i do however want Mohammad, and we need a developmental DT not DE.

This week is gonna be weird as hell. Get our FA’s signed, before anyone has a chance to think about. Get our business done now. Far as the mock, got to agree with NG. The corners u got, can’t help us and we don’t need any more DE’s. We got them, but I like Mohammad also, considering being a Cal Alumni. He’s just a fundamentally sound defensive player, that would hewlp on special teams, and could play All LB positions. That kid Silva, FS from Hawaii is on the radar, with his size and speed. 22 reps @225 on the bench press doesn’t hurt either !!!!
Do you want your centerfielder to attack in run support? Rahim Moore is not Mike Mitchell but isn’t that what we should be drafting? Moore is not far from a sure tackler, he’s the last line of defense and though he may not be a 100 tackle a year guy, he’s more then proficient for the position.
Carmichael’s game is better in man to man coverage. Not all VT corners are Zone corners, you can’t just gloss over Rashad because of MeAngelo, that has nothing to do with him they are two different players entirely. I’ll take Todd McShay’s word over yours.
I think we need a DE. Lets see Kelly, Henderson, Bryant, Seymour, Houston are all DT’s. Shaughnessy is more of a base end and Scott is stuck in the hybrid role. I definitely see the need for a pass rusher DE more then a DT.

Carmichaels game is a zone game because he doesnt have the hip turn, aggressiveness or physicality to play bump and run man coverage that we play
READ EVERY SINGLE DRAFT ANALYSIS ON HIM! It says he will succeed in only a zone system. And were did McShay say he was a good man corner? He is a zone corner because of his hip tightness, speed doesnt equal fluid hips.
Positives: Explosive, rangy athlete with nice acceleration and top-end speed. Lanky and slender, but isn’t afraid to go for the big hit. Fearless tackler willing to engage bigger backs and receivers head-on. Gets his head around in coverage and adjusts his body nicely to the ball in the air. Has a second gear that allows him to correctively close gaps between himself and receivers who have gained separation. Light-footed, smooth backpedal maintaining still head and upper body. Displays good awareness of both the quarterback’s eyes and receiver location when playing off in zone coverage. Gets his hands up quickly to make plays on balls that he may get his head around late on. Keeps his eyes in the backfield and shows good zone discipline when defending the run.
Negatives: Struggles to get his hands on opposing receivers and create disruptive contact at the line of scrimmage when playing press. Doesn’t crowd receivers enough in man coverage, often leaving an unnecessary cushion of space both off the line and downfield, thus allowing the receiver room to maintain balance and keep route accuracy. Tends to slow up when turning out of his backpedal and running upfield, often leaving himself in a “catch up” situation with his assigned receiver. When reacting to slant routes underneath in zone coverage, doesn’t get a quick enough first step to consistently meet the ball at the receiver. Puts himself in good position to make tackles against the run, but tends to wait on the ballcarrier rather than drive through him, thus leaving him vulnerable to jukes and cutbacks. Displays very poor tackling technique when engaging the ballcarrier at times, tending to lock his knees and lead with his head.
-CBS who i trust above all
Also, the Michael Huff bashing and good riddance was because he struggled tackling from that CF position and u wanna bring someone in whose a WORSE TACKLER? PASS! And houston will be playing DE til kelly or seymour retire, Jarvis moss will be back, Trevor scott has an ACL injury so he’ll likely be back at DE when he comes back, on certain packages Kelly and Seymour play DE as well, we need DT’s not DE’s.
by NATIONSGREATEST on Apr 26, 2011 3:31 PM PDT up reply actions
I don't even think we need a DT right now.
Once big Dick retires, Marr will move inside and Shaughnessy will be our full time DE.

I think we need a DT to groom, because its not just one position to fill
Seymour Henderson and Kelly are all long in the tooth, do we want a rookie to come in and teach himself, or learn from a Sure hall of famer (Seymour), a man who was dominant in his time ( henderson ), and a man who has had success in the NFL (Kelly)
by NATIONSGREATEST on Apr 26, 2011 7:40 PM PDT up reply actions
im fine with getting a DT
but i dont think we should use a pick higher than the 7th.Its not a need, but bringing in a DT with tons of potential for Wauffle to work with would be good.I think we are fine with Bryant and Houston for now, if we dont draft someone.

Rahim Moore is this years Mike Huff
Didn’t like this draft at all.
"Now I know what your thinking, did he fire six shots or only five. Ive forgotten myself in all this excitement, but being that this is the 44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and could blow your head clean off, you have to ask your question. Do I feel lucky? Well do ya punk!"
Dirty Harry Callahan
Is that a bad thing?
He is a second round pick and Huff is a near All Pro Free Safety. So I am confused. Rahim Moore is the best FS in this draft, weak class albeit, he’s a junior who after last year was slated to be a top 15 pick. This year he played more SS and was avoided like the plague. I don’t know what there isn’t to like about him. He as studious to the game as any player in the draft and he has big playmaking abilities (not just potential).
"When you believe in yourself......you will conquer many of your fears before they even manifest."
-Zen Master, Nnamdi "The Awesome One" Asomugha
He cant tackle, just like Huff, thats the problem
It took Huff who was a great college tackler and S 4 years to become decent, how long do you think its gonna take Moore who’s A WORSE TACKLER? Give me Jaiquawn Jarrett or Robert Sands, the 2 BEST SAFETIES IN THE DRAFT! IDC WHAT MCSHAY OR KIPER OR ANYONE HAS TO SAY, ID TAKE THEM OVER MOORE EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK
by NATIONSGREATEST on Apr 26, 2011 3:35 PM PDT up reply actions
Tackling: Isn’t always a reliable open-field tackler, a negative as the team’s last line of defense. Generally breaks down well, but will alternately take on ballcarriers too high and try to wrestle them to the ground or drop his head and resort to duck-and-swipe tackling leading to ugly missed tackles. Is willing to lower his shoulder into the receiver crossing the middle, but is not an intimidating presence.

Have you seen that S from Hawai'i? Kameamana Silva?
Good film on him in youtube. He goes by nickname Mana Silva and he’s from Big Island. Great speed and moves and having lived there a long time I know the UH attitude…very good stuff.

He's been on my radar but I got off of him
He plays more SS and doesn’t really have any near starting potential. Moore however, could be plugged in from the beginning. Not saying it will be an all pro level, but he could certainly be a decent starter right out of the gate. If we drafted Silva, my question would be why not just play Mitchell at FS and save the pick for somewhere else.

I don't see that much difference between
Silva at FS and Mitchell at FS

-Zen Master, Nnamdi "The Awesome One" Asomugha
Silva plays the ball better and takes better angles and had 14 picks in two seasons

So that means he will transition well
I just don’t think we can count on Silva to make anymore of a difference over Brown or Eugene or Mitchell next year. He is a project. We NEED a starting caliber FS. Rahim Moore is the only one in this draft and just happens to be slated available around when we pick. If we drafted Silva, I would still prefer to see Mitchell or Branch play FS. That is what I meant.

Unfortunately, we ain't there. I would take him in the 7th round.
And not take Pat Devlin like Sporting News is projecting….who the fuck is he?

the next Joe Flacco
Great arm, smart, accurate but needs to learn NFL speed from DII speed

Yeah because he's had such a horrible pro career......We dont know how good or bad he is
I beg you to recall that Flacco in the 1st was a haha from everybody until they saw what he could do on the field, anything is possible, wouldnt mind him sitting for a few years which is the situation we have.
by NATIONSGREATEST on Apr 26, 2011 7:42 PM PDT up reply actions
Thing is
Flacco’s arm strength is otherworldly (I would say he’s up there with Cutler in the league) and his faults coming into the league were mostly minor and he could improve on them (although he’s been falling apart in the pocket in tight situations his whole career).

Nothing spectacular about Rahim Moore's play ... another gap filler who will pass through the NFL without leaving an impression
Robert Sands, on the other hand, is going to make an impact, create a sensation, be a factor.
S-O-B: ITS HOW I ROLL, DEAL WITH IT.

Ya but Sands is a 2-3 year project
We need a FS to start.

Rod Woodson and Sand's natural ability and passion would get him game-ready sooner that that. Also, we could have him
in the 3rd round and use our 1st pick for Cannon, Wisniewski or Kaepernick.

Sands is a HUGE liability in Coverage
He can’t play CF, he’s actually more of a SS.

On the idea that Rahim Moore isn't a very good tackler
Takes very good angles in deep pursuit and typically takes solid angles when filling from the high point. Not an explosive hitter but does a good job of breaking down and wrapping up quickly in space. Doesn’t hesitate as a tackler. He closes in a hurry and will hog-tie ball carriers around the ankles. Occasionally will fail to wrap up because he has left his feet and the few times we’ve seen it on tape it has been against smaller ball carriers.

Rahim Moore
Voted a team captain as a junior. Hard worker on and off the field. Good student. Takes excellent care of his body and understands importance of nutrition. Models his game after Ed Reed’s.

Ed Reed isn't a thumper amazing tackler and never was
That’s because his position is FS. You don’t not draft a WR because he’s less then average at blocking.

Moore would be a solid pick if he were to fall to us
I’m against using a high pick on a safety, but imo, Moore is the only one in this draft who could upgrade our safety position. I don’t think he falls to us though, and I don’t think we should trade up for anything other than a offensive tackle.

FS needs to tackle, IDK what football you watch
Ed Reed can lay the wood though, and ive never seen him miss a tackle. And I play college football and model my game after T.O. does that mean I’ll be him?

On Robert Sands
Can’t be trusted in deep-middle zone and has limitations in man-to-man.
