Raiders' Worst Moments

We talked about these horrible moments yesterday. And we have  ProFootballTalk to thank for getting started down this path—the path of worst Raider moments since the last NFL work stoppage in 1987. Well, Jerry McDonald weighed in on the topic, too. Below is his explanation for his worst moment since '87.

Chiming in with a `10 worst’ - Inside the Oakland Raiders
Wayward center Barret Robbins got the landslide rolling when he went AWOL in a haze of alcohol and mental illness, but this was all about Jon Gruden Traded by Al Davis to Tampa Bay for two first-round draft picks, two second-round draft picks and $8 million, Gruden was in his full Chucky glory, mimicking quarterback Rich Gannon in practice and having his team prepared to dismantle the organization that gave him his chance to be a head coach.

Raiders Roster Ramblings

Bill Williamson of ESPN was asked if he thought the Raiders would pursue a corner in free agency if Nnamdi doesn't return:

AFC West mailbag - AFC West Blog - ESPN
I think if the Raiders don’t pursue Asomugha, they may go with what they have at cornerback. That may be why they took two cornerbacks in the first four rounds of the draft. The Raiders spent big money on Stanford Routt and I’m not sure they can afford to sign another high-dollar cornerback. Perhaps if one of the top cornerbacks lasts on the market longer than expected and he becomes a bargain, Oakland could pounce. But that may be a long shot.

I completely agree with Williamson on this one. As it is now they have too many other areas to address in free agency, and they may be looking at cutting one of the corners drafted from last year, or putting one of this year's on the practice squad. My dark horse prediction on this is that they move Jeremy Ware to safety.

Barksdale Expects to Start

Detroit Lions - NFL | Joe Barksdale Jr. plans to be ready | The Detroit News
"I expect to start right away," Barksdale said of his opportunity with the Raiders. "My goal is to play 12 years. I want to play forever. "I do love football. I know it will be hard when it's over. When I'm done, I'll coach and take that money they give me to coach to charity. If you play 12 years, you won't need more money. I won't want to work a normal job when I'm done. No 9-to-5 for me. I'm going to ride this train until the tracks run out."

Jerry McDonald points out that at the moment Barksdale isn't looking at a lot of competition for this job.

Barksdale: My goal is to start - Inside the Oakland Raiders
He will likely be a competitor at right tackle, a wide open position in that Mario Henderson, Khalif Barnes and Langston Walker are currently not under contract.

Raiders Grab Bag O' Booty

Louis Murphy is tweeting about potential team July workouts. It is a vague comment. So take it for what it is worth, and hope no one has to worry about it.

Louis Murphy Says Oakland Raiders Should Have Another Team Workout in July - SB Nation Bay Area
Now, with the lockout still showing no real signs of ending anytime soon, it appears as though the Raiders may already have another camp scheduled for sometime in July. In response to a question from a fan on twitter about whether the Raiders had any other team workouts planned, Raiders wide receiver Louis Murphy tweeted "should be 1 coming up in July".

Jerry Porter really stained his legacy when he left the Raiders. He seemed just like another prima dona wide receiver. He may have matured some sense then:

Porter gets 'cultural experience' at Alouettes' camp
"I’ll probably end up paying to come here," the engaging Porter, a native of Washington, said following Tuesday’s workouts. "It’ll be a cultural experience to play on the best team. From what I hear, they’re like the New England Patriots. They win, and people hate them. And they expect to win."

I will never complain about a guy hanging onto the game too long. I like seeing athletes until no one wants them anymore because they love the game. I hope Porter has a healthy season.

Steelers Unlikely To Go After Free-Agent Asomugha | Football News Now
Ed Bouchette from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has confirmed that the Steelers won’t pursue Asomugha, but just because they aren’t interested that doesn’t mean other teams won’t go after him. He’ll command a huge salary after having the final year of his previous contract voided.

First we have the reports that the Raiders are drawing interest from the L.A. stadium group. They are looking for a team to not only play in the stadium, but they want to purchase a majority share.

Oakland Raiders Being Targeted by LA Stadium Group - Silver And Black Pride

I don't think it comes as any surprise that Al Davis is not interested in selling.

Trask: Raiders aren’t for sale - Inside the Oakland Raiders
"The team is not for sale. It will remain with the Davis family," CEO Amy Trask said in a statement issued through spokesman John Herrera. The Raiders extended their current lease at the Coliseum through 2013 in November in 2009 and since then Trask has said the focus has been on getting a stadium built on their current site.

I don't think that means the Raiders are out of the woods in terms of moving. They are looking for two teams to fill the stadium.

Wiz II Speaks

Stefen Wisniewski: Born to be a Raider - AFC West Blog - ESPN
"There is a potential complication there, but I’m sure he will make sure to be as hard or, probably even harder, on me than anyone else," he said. "It’s going to be fun to be around him as he follows his dream, too."

Former Penn State standout Stefen Wisniewski training hard for start of NFL season ... whenever that may be | PennLive.com
...I've been working five, sometimes six, days a week. I have gotten bigger. I'm probably 310-315 pounds and I probably played closer to 305 in college. I think the Raiders want me at 310.
