Nnamdi Asomugha: Philadelphia Eagles Swoop in to Grab Asomugha

In a totally surprising turn of Nnamdi Asomugha events the Philadelphia Eagleshave signed Nnamdi Asomugha. The Eagles hadn't been mentioned as contenders since teams began negotiating with players. Just hours ago it seemed like an almost certainty that Nnamdi would be heading to the New York Jets. Wrong!

The deal doesn't appear to be a bank breaker either. Per ESPN:

The deal is worth $60 million over five years, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

I have not seen how much of that contract is guaranteed. My guess is that it is a pretty good chunk of change. I wish Nnam nothing but the best. We'll have much more time to speculate on this move, and if the Raiders should have made a bigger play for Nnam.

I will say that Nnamdi going to the Eagles does the Raiders no favors in regards to their other free agent targets. The Jets will now likely turn their attention to Antonio Cromartie and the 49ers are likely going after Dashon Goldson as we speak. Much more to come.

How many fumbles must he cause to not trigger a "Voiding clause" ? He'll have many opportunities with Phili's sorry ass

rush defense and teams won’t even bother trying to pass against them.

GET ASANTE!!!

With Nnamdi gone, and hopefully Chris Johnson soon following, we desperately need a #2 CB. Shortly after picking up Nnamdi, NFL network’s Michael Lombardi reported that the Eagles are shopping around Asante Samuel. Asante could play #1 on most teams, and would be a huge luxury for us playing beside Stanford Routt. He shouldn’t cost much more than a high round + mid-late round pick at this point, and that would be generous. MOVE QUICK BIG AL, the AFC West is going to be covered in Silver and Black!

DeAngelo Hall 2.0.

Let’s go get Nine-Kids Cromartie.

42 picks in 8 seasons...

Should be enough to remove “not good” from any sentence regarding Asante Samuel.

he doesn’t play man – DeAngelo Hall gets picks too.

That's primarily because of the schemes he played in

Belichek is well known for his multiple movement and prowl schemes, and the Eagles have never been much of a press coverage man defense. We really can’t say how effective he would be in the Raiders scheme, but there shouldn’t be any question that Samuel has raw talent and veteran leadership. We all saw the impact Seymour had on our young d-line, Samuel would likely have the same effect on our young secondary as well, considering he was a part of the same defense that fueled the Pats dynasty.

i guess you could say that he has never been in a man scheme so maybe he can but we would be giving up a lot for 'maybe he can' scenario

and as i said we already tried that with D.Hall. Also Asante is nowhere near the leader that Big Sey is.

Im not saying he is not a good player just unsure if he fits especially considering what the Eagles will probably want for him.

Given his injuries and age

I don’t see him going for more than a first round pick, maybe a mid-late pick in addition. We only need a #2 QB while DVD and Chekwa develop, which would no doubt be sped up with the presence of both Rod Woodson and Samuel. Asante deserves way more respect than Hall, and really shouldnt be mentioned in the same sentence. Great players can make adjustments, I don’t see him losing his playmaking ability just because he’s being asked to play in a different scheme

Why not?

We have a ton of young talent already, it’s not like we are desperate for new talent to develop. I know I was happy giving a first rounder for Seymour, especially since we still got a strong draft class this year anyway.

He has had the same experience as Sey

And has very strong numbers to back his value up to a first round pick. A backfield of Routt/Samuel is nothing to snuff at, and a playoff run this season could really get us momentum for what appears to be a bright future. I just want to watch football. Cmon preseason…

but where you are losing me is with the comparisons to Big Sey.

I think you are understating who Seymour is and what he brings to this team.

by no means am i comparing the two

Seymour is by far more dominant at his position, I’m merely suggesting that Samuel would have the same type of impact on the young guys we growing to be the future of our backfield.

thats the part i disagree with

I don’t see Samuel as anywhere near the leader that Big Sey is. The fact that Sey is dominant AND a Leader is what makes him worth a first round pick.

I like Samuel but his value isnt even close to that of Sey imo.

i kinda hope ur right

they desperately want to get rid of his $9.5MM cap hit with both CB positions locked, so maybe we could get him for cheaper than a 1st round pick. I would still be willing to give up a 1st rounder, but Al should at least look in to what Philly wants for him.

Al was hoping the price would continue to drop for him and that he would come back to us cheap in his eyes. Al screwed up in giving Routt that overpaid contract basically not leaving enough money to keep Nnamdi. We are well over the cap than any other team in the league and Nnamdi knew he would not be coming back and was looking for the highest bidder.

Better Philly

than the Cowgirls or Rex Ryan’s team. I have a cousin and a couple good mates who go for them so I’m not as mad as I could be.

Maybe that’s the hangover talking though.

"In football, I root for the Oakland Raiders because they hire castoffs, outlaws, malcontents, and fuck -ups, they have lots of penalties, fights, and paybacks, and because Al Davis told the rest of the pig NFL owners to go get fucked. Someday, the Raiders will be strong again, and they will dip the ball in shit and shove it down the throats of the wholesome, white, heartland teams that pray together and don't deliver late hits." - George Carlin.

I expect whomever we settle on at free can perform as well as Huff did

not so concerned about that position, as i am for corner. Many of the cbs we drafted are likely to be groomed for FS too, and there are already a bevy of young guys from last year, and Tyvon’s getting reps in camp.

I’m afraid to find out what happens without one side of the field locked down, and all our rivals stocking up on trees.

Its a big question mark that's for sure

but both CJ and Routt have performed at times as top line corners and we have a glut of young talent, I have faith in Rod Woodson to get those guys performing at a high level consistently.

Either way at this stage i do not think it is completely the end f the world as these guys definitely have the otential to be a very high level tandem and I also expect to sign another FA corner – Rogers please Al.

I mean if we can't stop people we might as well score 21 point quick.

Mason can teach our Wr’s how to play. Maybe if we played less man coverage we wouldn’t leave these guys on island. I don’t think you can win a superbowl by just playing man coverage. Until we hire a Real DC and stop being predictable on defense we won’t win a superbowl or go to an AFC championship game.

Our defense wasn’t all that good.when we were in the superbowl. He haven’t had a good defense in a long time. We have to stop run first before we can start thinking about the playoffs.

I hope so

But Our defense isn’t built to care this team week in and out. I believe if we change up coverage because our dline get pressure we could get a lot of turnovers. Death RO is one of those guys you don’t have to worry about because he comes to play. I am worried about or man coverage an one WR’s catching over 60 balls and 10TD’s We need two of them to have that kind of production to make a playoff run.

Great Choice for Nnamdi

The thinking Process

The Raiders can’t afford me. I want to stay, but I can make a lot more money on a different team and play for a contender.

The Bay Area will think I am a traitor if I play for the 49ers. Plus, any team that still thinks Alex Smith can be a player in this league has no shot at winning a Super Bowl. It would be nice to stay in the Bay Area.

The Cowboys Defense is pretty bad. DeMarcus Ware and I will have to do everything on Defense for that team. The stadium is nice.

The Jets are intriguing, but they play in Oakland week 3 and the offense struggles with Mark Sanchez. Revis and I would be damn good.

The Eagles have Micheal Vick and the offense puts up plenty of numbers. The team just robbed the Cardinals and got me some help in the secondary. They just signed Babin for a better pass rush. I like this team’s chances.

I think the whole Nnamdi thing is funny....

because for everyone laughing at the Raiders for letting him go, their teams stood by with a tumb up there butts thinking they were gonna get him. dumped all sorts of players to make cap space. Jets fans should be crying, not only did you not get him, we might take Cro. Cowgirls fans need to go chew a cow patty and kiss their cousin and get over it. Houston, atleast they realized what was up and signed oldboy. For as good Nnamdi was to us…. we will be much better in other areas by him leaving.
