Kelvin Hayden - Good fit for the Silver and Black?
Recently there have been rumors circulating that the Oakland Raiders are interested in acquiring former second round draft pick, and Super Bowl Champion Corner back Kelvin Hayden. After the departure of Pro Bowl corner Nnamdi Asomugha, the Raiders secondary could certainly use a boost. The question is, is Hayden the right man for the job?
At the start of the 2010 season Hayden stormed the gates recording 24 tackles and one forced fumble in just the 3 first games of the Colts season. But, because of nagging injuries for the majority of the season, he only played in 11 games. He finished the season with 61 tackles and 2 picks. Lets see how he stacked up with Oakland's secondary in 2010.
Nnamdi Asomugha:
| TACK | FF | INT |
|---|---|---|
| 19 | 0 | 0 |
| TACK | FF | INT |
|---|---|---|
| 55 | 1 | 2 |
Chris Johnson:
| TACK | FF | INT |
|---|---|---|
| 16 | 0 | 2 |
| TACK | FF | INT |
|---|---|---|
| 94 | 3 | 3 |
| TACK | FF | INT |
|---|---|---|
| 104 | 1 |

Kelvin Hayden:
| TACK | FF | INT |
|---|---|---|
| 61 | 1 | 2 |
Keep in mind that Hayden only played in 11 games, while for the most part our guys participated in all 16 games. It'll be interesting to see how this situation shapes up. But all in all, if the guy is in football shape and he can contribute, I'll take that all day.

On the basis that none of our young corners seem ready to step up I definitely think Hayden is worth a shot
"Anytime you have an organization and an owner that wants to win as badly as Al Davis wants to win, and will spend the money to win, I don’t think you have as many barriers as you think. Those are easy. The ones that would be tough is where you didn’t have any good players and you had an owner or an organization that didn’t want to spend any money to get good players." - John Madden, 2008

i want to know
what ass clown voted as NO… the numbers tell it all…
Hayden is a cover 2 corner.
We play man to man all game long. He is going to get killed. Remember With Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis all he had to do is sit on routes in Oakland you have to get in WR’s face. It’s two different styles of play given him a shot is one thing but to say he will start is crazy.

I think he would be ok as a third corner
We have CJ and Routt to lock down the outside, also regardless of his playing more zone than anything so far in his career I would still think his experience would put him in a better position to start than our young guys should someone go down

Did Al not learn from the DeAngelo Williams debacle?
Kelvin Hayden has played zone his entire career. Why are going to pay 3mill a year for a corner who has never played in our style of defense?

if you want to be a bitch about last names fine, you still know who I'm talking about and the point still stands
for a team floating around the cap to be giving a corner that doesn’t fit their system 3mill a year is pretty irresponsible.

Not being a bitch about names
But being a bitching about having some basic idea of what you are talking about.
Saying someone is incapable of playing man because they have played in a zone scheme is lazy and over simplistic analysis.
By that logic you are saying that Nnamdi is incapable of playing zone.

Nnamdi has played zone because he plays S as well in the Raiders defense
and if you’re going to start comparing Kelvin Hayden to Nnamdi then your a fucking lunatic

What the fuck are you talking about?
Nnamdi played S in college and was moved to corner when he was drafted and either I am not sure if you realize but safety and corner are totally differant positions.
Congratulations for putting words in my mouth, I am not comparing Nnamdi and Hayden as players simply pointing out an example of why your analysis is lazy and overly simplistic.

if we sign him
we obviously have the money to sign him.

just cos you have money doesn't mean you spend it
The Raiders aren’t pressed up against the cap every year because Al’s a genius, they’re pressed up to the cap every year because Al’s an idiot who gives big contracts to players who don’t deserve them. Getting further under the cap space needs to be a goal if we are ever going to be relevant again

If you have a position of need and money to spend
It would be foolish not to fill the need especially when your team was one game out of the playoffs in the previous season.

DVD Isn't looking too hot thus far.
Van Dyke has almost looked confused at times in the first 2 quarters of play against the Cards in pre-season game 1. I’m not saying he doesn’t have potential but he’s got a long way to go before he sees success in this league. His size is one of his biggest downfalls. For all you Hayden haters, who would you suggest fills the void instead? I realize he would be transitioning into a new defensive system but that doesn’t mean the guy can’t adapt and continue to excel and make plays at his position.

The goes another secondary guy.
There does Hiram Eugene. No word on what the injury is, but it’s never good when a guy has to get carted off. Oh, and anyone else notice how BAD Walter Mac looks?
