I am sitting here listening to 2pac's All Eyez On Me Disk 1 and I can't help but feel amped up. Not just amped about the genius that is 2pac, whose music always gets my blood pumping, but amped for this season to start! There have been a rash of injuries so far incomparable to any other team for us. That sucks and all but there is no need to have any Chicken Little Syndrome takeover. The sky is not falling.
Most of these injuries are ones that the players will recover from either by the opener, or shortly after. Our back up safety got the worst injury so far, but its not like we didn't have time to replace him. We did already with Matt Giordano, anybody who does not know him will be pleasantly surprised with the tenacity and speed he will be bringing to our defense. He will be bringing his knowledge of Dom Capers system to us from his time as a Packer as well. Not that we will be using it for the team's defense much, but I do fully expect to see an extremely competent player out there who is much better for the knowledge that Capers dropped on him. Jump over for more....
Denarius Moore is going to be unstoppable when lined up in the slot, or any where else we decide to play him. I really do like Rich's idea of using DHB in the slot every once in awhile too. However I want to go even more extreme than that. What I want to see us do with the receiving core is use everybody in each position. Watching the Packers receivers is a lot of fun. What I love to watch with their receiving core is how you never know where an individual is going to line up. You don't know what personal is going to be in there play by play. I know, I know. Too much Packer love but it is what it is! They keep the team they are playing constantly guessing and out of rhythm with their receiver alignments. We have the talent to do that too!
We really have the most talented receiving corp that we have had since Timmy and Jerry were running routes for us. They have the talent to line up anywhere, and I think Hue is smart enough to use that. Mismatches are what it is all about when it comes to the passing game, and we have the ability to create them on every play. I think they are going to be fantastic, and I think JC is going to be hitting them in stride more often than a lot of people think he will. I want to see quick passes though, get the ball in the receivers hands and let the world see just how fast they all are.
Speed kills. Everybody knows we covet speed and everybody knows we have it. Now let everybody see how hard it is going to be to stop it. Hit them with quick passes into our playmaker's hands and stuff that run down there throats. Hit him short and run it at them until they have no choice but to bring their defense in. When they do burn them deep. I do not believe any defense short of the Eagles, Steelers, or the Packers have the secondary to keep up with us and I know no defense is going to be able to consistently stop all of our running backs. I don't want to get away from a run first offense, but I do want our passing game to be feared. The more they fear our passing game, the harder it will be to stop our rushing attack. I have had enough of the "do just enough to keep them honest" thought process with our passing game. Make them fear it! Do you really want to see our running backs and our wide receivers lined up against you? If your honest with yourself, the answer should be no!
Do you think our receivers would be effective with random receiver alignments?
