Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

We need at LB help I want Kenny Rowe to be a Raider!

Rowe was always around the ball somehow he wasn't drafted overshadowed by the hair of the lesser Matthews brother. There's not a lot of guys out there right now looks like there's a few. Do we sign now or wait for cut down.

There isn't much sex appeal in the names although the always mentioned Morrison, Tatupu and Tully Banta-Cain are available. Beyond that it just looks like slim pickings.

Unsigned Linebackers according to WaltersFootball.com

ILB

Lofa Tatupu, ILB, Seahawks. Age: 28.
Lofa Tatupu is no longer the elite inside linebacker he once was. Tatupu is coming off two knee surgeries and was already somewhat of a liability in coverage. Perhaps he can recover and improve his play a bit, but it's doubtful that he'll ever be a Pro Bowl-caliber athlete again.

Kirk Morrison, ILB, Jaguars. Age: 29. Signed a one year deal with the Bills
Kirk Morrison is a decent middle linebacker who thrives in run support. He's not terrible in coverage, but could be better in that department.

Jameel McClain (ERFA), ILB, Ravens. Age: 26.   Somebody said he signed
Jameel McClain is serviceable as Baltimore's two-down inside linebacker next to Ray Lewis, but can be upgraded
.

Kevin Bentley, ILB, Texans. Age: 31.
Kevin Bentley did a decent job filling in for DeMeco Ryans in the second half of the season. He could be brought back as a reserve 3-4 inside linebacker.

Gerald Hayes, ILB, Cardinals. Age: 30.

Marvin Mitchell, ILB, Saints. Age: 26.

Dannell Ellerbe (ERFA), ILB, Ravens. Age: 25.

Tavares Gooden (RFA), ILB, Ravens. Age: 26.

Brandon Chillar, ILB, Packers. Age: 28.

OLB

Tully Banta-Cain, DE/OLB, Patriots. Age: 31.
Tully Banta-Cain has 15 sacks in the past two years, but at 31, he's a declining rush linebacker who'll need a very good pass rusher across from him to be effective going forward. He's still good in run support.

Pisa Tinoisamoa, OLB, Bears. Age: 30.
Pisa Tinoisamoa missed some time with a knee scope, but otherwise had a pretty solid year as Chicago's two-down strongside linebacker

Jamar Williams, OLB, Panthers. Age: 27.

Julian Peterson, OLB, Lions. Age: 33.

Landon Johnson, OLB, Lions. Age: 30.

Keith Ellison, OLB, Bills. Age: 27.

Jordon Dizon, OLB, Lions. Age: 25.

Ashlee Palmer, OLB, Lions. Age: 25.

Just added this interesting highlight reel since he had to chase TP all game

Signing Rowe would be good

but we also need to sign a LB that can step in and start right away and one that can backup McClain.

We are really thin there now!

I hope they make some cuts of the dead wood CB’s now it has to happen we also need safety help. Is Hayden still available? His price went up last night if so. There has been a lot of injuries. I hope the Comish and the Owners are happy!

Could he be worse than the scrubs we have?

Somethings gotta give for us we have a shot at the division if they square this quickly! Although sometimes quickly and the Raiders are not synonymous…

by samiam2112 on Aug 23, 2011 9:26 PM PDT up reply actions

not really

but we could get a veteran guy who could produce more right away.

Why are there question marks on all the poll responses?

last i seen

we were 5-6 mil under the cap

by RyanTheRaider on Aug 23, 2011 8:35 PM PDT up reply actions

hes not going to be a big cap number 500k + bonus for the year something like 2.4 for 4 years?

Just added an interesting highlight match up TP vs KR in the Rose Bowl. I love the kids Motor and yeah he got beat when lined up on a WR but that will happen to most LB’s. Ducks played him on the edge mostly.

by samiam2112 on Aug 23, 2011 8:41 PM PDT up reply actions

i know

its going to be 5-6 mil – TPs contract

by RyanTheRaider on Aug 23, 2011 8:46 PM PDT up reply actions

if it is 5-6 mil id think it would be only if he hit incentives

he didn't mention them he was specifically asked about them

big difference

either way i think the OLB position will be filled by Groves and Mitchell

a best we can only hope for a decent backup at this stage unfortunately

Reports are he won't play OLB

Now that we need a MLB backup I wonder if he will be here. Anybody wishing we still had Thomas Howard still?

by samiam2112 on Aug 24, 2011 9:51 AM PDT up reply actions

a little

I still think Mitch will play a lot of OLB though

Morrison

is who I’d like to see come back. But. I’d also like to see what Tatupu can bring to the team.
