Well there are many things to bring out of this Preseason so far. Not all of them are things we would want to bring with us into the regular season. I am a natural born optimist though and therefore prefer to think about the positive things. I have always had the personal motto of "Never Underestimate the Power of Positive Thinking".
The first positive that I want to bring up is Taiwan Jones. Wow. He is just as good as advertised and then some it seems. He has the speed to hit the hole and to bounce it outside if the hole is not where it should be. That is something we are going to be able to utilize and I can't wait to see him in the game when it matters. Get him out in wide open space and give that man the ball. We will see production out of him, and it will be something to behold. Jump over for more....
The second positive that I want to bring up is that we finally have a reliable possession WR in Derek Hagen. He looked so good in this past New Orleans game that I think he might have played his way into a starting role. If Big Stick is serious about making people earn there spots and its not all just a facade then you have to say he is in the running. One thing is for certain, if you are going to preach earning your starting role DHB should not be starting. I am expecting big things out of "-" this year personally, but it should not come from the starting position.
Another positive, third if we want to continue keeping track, I want to talk about is that our pass offense as a whole looks like something that might just be special. Jason Campbell looks like he has the confidence of a man that is in the same system two years in a row for the first time since high school. He has the grip of the offense that we hoped he would have, now he just has to work on the common sense of not throwing down the middle of the field into double coverage to our 3rd string TE.
Michael Bush is ready to get paid!! This guy is going to be special for us all year long, but then he will probably be gone. I hope not, but even the optimist in me is saying that he will be playing elsewhere next year. Hopefully we do something to stop that from happening because a locked down team of Dash, Slash, and Gash would reek havoc on the NFL for years to come if it remained intact. Either way, expect huge numbers from our running game. Not one of these three backs are going to be easy to bring down, and I hope to see all three healthy at the same time more often than not this year. If so they will be scary!
All in all though, despite all the negatives that I have conveniently left out, I am excited for this football year. Our first string offense was tied with NO before our lack of depth surfaced and doomed us to a doubled up loss. That offense was without our best two weapons on offense in Dmac and Ford, and that defense was without CJ and Seymour. We also have yet to see what Lito Shepard is going to bring, I think I am probably the most excited for his addition but many believe him to be washed up. Time well tell people! Go Raiders!!
