After 3 weeks of preseason, the Raiders are ranked dead-last overall in Defense - Number 32. Given that Oakland was ranked the 11th best Defense at the end of the 2010 regular season, one may justifiably begin to question Oakland's HC in the area of Defensive competence (as well as his DC.'s) The chaotic disarray of our Defense's general performance, its failure to adequately adjust, and routine deficiency in the execution of rudimentary fundamentals - such as tackling, gap discipline and clarity of cover assignments, makes this a legitimate question.
It is true that Hue's background, though extensive, is exclusively Offense. We all know, and appreciate, how he turned the Raiders around last season as our scoring suddenly surged under his direction to achieve a final ranking of 6th in the league. No question in my mind that Hue is a talented OC, an inspirational leader, a well-spoken voice of the Raiders, and just a very nice person. And, I understand that this is the first time Hue has been a head coach and that this is his rookie season.
Yet, here we are less than two weeks before regular season begins and our defense looks like a thrashing blinded Cyclops. Also, most of us realized (months ago) that we needed help in the 2nd Row, (Rolando McClain being the only legitimate and respectable NFL Linebacker on this team), but Hue and the organization have ignored this all too evident problem and the Raiders now have the 32nd rushing defense - that's as low as it gets - in the NFL.
The question now is this, "Does Hue have a clue about Defense?"
