Compensatory Draft Picks 2012
The Raiders have focused on resigning/extending their own players and only grabbed a few UFA's from other teams. Because of that the team is poised to pick up a few extra draft picks next year.
Lost: Nnamdi Asomugha ($12M per year average), Zach Miller ($6.8M), Robert Gallery (est $6M), Thomas Howard ($3.25M), Bruce Gradkowski (est $2M)
Signed: Kevin Boss ($4M), Trent Edwards ($1.8M), Stephon Heyer ($1.7M)
Note: Johnnie Lee Higgins’ deal was too low to qualify
The signings of Boss and Howard probably offset, as should the Edwards-Gradkowski swap. Hopefully Heyer is cut so we don’t end up with a 7th when we could have had a 4th round pick for one of the guys we lost. This leaves Asomugha (projected 3rd round comp pick), Miller (4th) and Gallery (4th). That will help a lot considering we already don’t have our 2nd rounder (traded to NE during the 2011 draft) or 4th rounder (traded to WAS for QB Jason Campbell) next year.
UPDATE 9/10/11:
With the release of Trent Edwards before the start of the regular season, the team is now +2 in UFA's lost vs signed. The average salaries were not totally correct, so here are the new numbers:
Lost: Nnamdi Asomugha ($12M; 3rd round comp ), Zach Miller ($6.8M; 3rd or 4th), Robert Gallery ($5M; offset by Boss), Thomas Howard ($2.25M, 7th), Bruce Gradkowski ($2M, offset by Heyer)
Signed: Kevin Boss ($4M), Stephon Heyer ($1.7M)
Final comp slotting will depend somewhat on playing time and Pro Bowl honors, so this is still very preliminary.

While not hoping Heyer fails, I'm gladdened by this relief coming next year. We net a 3rd and 4th round to offset losing a 2nd.

Great points:
But, I am waiting to see the new CBA before really getting back into this. I will see what I can dig up in camp on this subject.
There were rules in the old CBA that make all points mute, such as, in order to qualify, the FA’s had to be signed by June 1st.

August 20 = this year's June 1st date?
That’s how I read the provision in the CBA Transition Rules for the 2011 season:
Section 3. Free Agency:
(d) Unrestricted Free Agents. The “June 1 Tender” date for Unrestricted Free Agents shall be August 20, 2011.
(e) Signing Period for Unrestricted Free Agents. In the event that an Unrestricted Free Agent who received the “June 1 Tender” described in Subsection (d) above has not signed a Player Contract with a Club by September 3, 2011, he may negotiate or sign a Player Contract from that date until the Tuesday following the tenth week of the regular season at 4:00pm New York time only with his Prior Club.

We still have the 4th
We only gave it up to Washington if JC made certain goals. Horrible trade for rat boy shannahan.

I'll believe that when I see it
Yes, I know Clayton reported it (here) but it seems implausible that Shanahan off all people would make such an all-or-nothing trade. If there are any conditions it would be a 4th round max and then a lesser pick in exchange if we didn’t make the playoffs.

it was a conditional fourth round pick
"Anytime you have an organization and an owner that wants to win as badly as Al Davis wants to win, and will spend the money to win, I don’t think you have as many barriers as you think. Those are easy. The ones that would be tough is where you didn’t have any good players and you had an owner or an organization that didn’t want to spend any money to get good players." - John Madden, 2008

I think
you were the one that told me…
It is true, we still have the 4th. Now let’s keep all of the picks from here on out. With the comp picks we should have a lot of options in next years draft.

any links?
in all my searching online, the only non-blogger or comment-poster has been Clayton. Again, I’m not saying it can’t be true, but I also don’t think we should trust it as gospel if no one else can corroborate it…
