Week 1, Oak @ Den

OAK

Oakland’s defense didn’t give up a TD until 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter. We got 5 sacks, pressure, turnovers, and stuffed the run. I was very happy about our defense. Offensively, I think our play calling was a little predictable, and we looked rusty. Passing wasn’t good, but pass blocking wasn’t terrible. I’d like to see us stretch the field better with 4 and 5 wr’s. I’m not going to hang my head on 190 rushing yards…so once again I think our run blocking was stellar. We did get held on the punt return td…but we should have made the tackle anyway. Last, too many penalties.

DEN

Offense was nonexistent most of the game. Between Orton getting sacked and knocked down, he made some bad under and over throws…and when the ball did get there, there were a lot of dropped passes by Denver’s wr corp. Don’t have to mention the running game. Denver’s D was much improved, but were terrible up the middle, and when we beat the LB to the outside it was 10 yards almost every time, with 1 sack on the night. Great punt return on special teams. Last, too many penalties.

This was a pretty close game for the most part, and Orton got his stats by the end of the game…but our running game set the tempo, and kept it throughout the game.  DMC looked like a beast (O-Line looked pretty good), and so did our defense. Good game broncos.
