Decisive week in the AFC West
With Oakland tied with San Diego in the AFC, 1-0, the Raiders are in a favorable position to advance and hold their own destiny in their hands.
San Diego faces the leagues #1 Offense in Foxborough Sunday with Tom Brady red hot and NE, a 6 1/2 point favorite, determined to go all the way.
Meanwhile, the recently downtrodden Chiefs face one of the best QB's in the league, Matt Stafford and his favorite target - the illustrious Calvin Johnson. Detroit's DL is good and should torment the KC backfield worse than did Buffalo. For what it's worth, the Lions are 8 pt favorites.
To round things out, our former Hero, Bruce Gradkowski is likely to see some significant play time -may even start for the injured Dalton (wrist) - in the Bengals match against the Broncos at Mile High. Denver is favored by 4 but the spread opened at 6. Cincinnati may pull this one off with Grad running the show.
Monday morning's conceivable reality:
Oakland 2 - 0
San Diego 1 - 1
Kansas City 0 - 2
Denver 0 - 2
For our part, we must focus on one thing and one thing only, we must beat Fitzgerald, Steve Johnson and the Buffalo Bills. Everything else is out of our control but does look quite favorable.

Could happen but
Where is the lose lose option and a tie LOL
Looks like you have secretly drank some Kool-Aid
You mean, SD wins and Oakland loses? Unthinkable ... but theoretically possible. To those who want to vote that option
there is, unfortunately, no chance here.

Buffalo is a trap game
They could be a decent team and were going to the east coast which historically is tough for west coast teams

Rivers always has a tough time against NE. Not sure wh
and they’re just way too on fire to lose this one in their own backyard. Buffalo is as big a challenge as we can have at this point. A hungry team finding its way and getting some help from the defense with a game changing draftee and some key additions where they most needed it. Some of them specifically match them up better with us.
This will be a true challenge for Hue and the team, coming off a short week. It’s anybody’s game right now.
Cincy beats Denver, and Detroit runs a clinic on the lowly Chiefs, inching Haley one step closer to the FFCA.

They also do not like him
They will look to keep him on the grass as much as possible. I look for their V-12 Ferrari to be running hard all day long.
On the other hand, Chad Henne of all people put up 400 yards on the Pats' D.
I can easily see Rivers throwing for a grand against them.

the way of the NFL goes this is a more likely the outcome...
KC wins
Denver wins
Chargers Lose
Raiders Lose (I am hoping not but in any event this game is tougher than most here are willing to admit)
The one thing I have learn in many years watching the NFL…No team is as bad as it may seem in week 1 and no team is as good as it may seem.
Most times these types of teams meet together in the middle on week 2 and 3…leaving most teams at 2-1 and 1-2 after 3
Established teams like NE, GB, Colts (with Payton Manning), Raiders (in the 70s-80s) often times run off 3-5 games at the beginning of the season locking up post season runs…
never fear if the Raiders lose on Sunday I predict a win in the home opener…So a win at buffalo will be big…
Kansas City beating Detroit? Are you serious?
The Chiefs are already banged up, and now they have to face one of the most ridiculous lines in the NFL. Plus Stafford is healthy and Megatron is completing the process.
It won’t be a blowout like the Bills game was, but the Chiefs are going to get buried like Jimmy Hoffa.

The RaiderLaker
On rare occasions in the past, I've seen CBS air something different than here in Oxnard, technically southern CA
but about 70 miles north and slightly west of LA. Should be same thing on 2 in Long Beach and Orange County as here in Ventura, if I’m not mistaken. I was surprised, and stoked, of course to see it would be on in the morning, and SD/NE right after. Means I’ll be watching on my set at home, and not having to go somewhere to see it. I’ve watched a few online, but usually lose patience and walk to the local bar, actually a Chinese restaurant called “Chinaland,” that has a gang of TVs and the ticket and all games. They have clubs and shit too. Pretty funny shit.
If you can’t be there, though, nothing beats HD on your own walls. I’ll be able to DVR and do immediate breakdowns afterwards too. If time permits I’m thinking I’ll do SD/NE too. At least the key drives and defensive stands. Looking forward to that.

They were super tough last year with Stafford playing. A couple times without
but this year, no joke. I remember people looking at potential win/loss ratios and everybody counting Detroit as a W, and I knew then they’d be no pushover. We’re also still not past the point we can say we’ll win all the games we know we’re capable of winning, but I feel we’re on our way.
KC is just not equipped to handle Detroit’s strengths. They’re strong in the trenches on both sides, and have weapons and a great young, tough QB. Chiefs would need a looooot of lucky bounces to have a chance in that one methinks.

They seem to like running 3+ WR sets, and given how meh our CB’s are after CJ and Routt, and how bleh their run defense is (i know it’s improved, but it’s still far from good) it could/should be a very high scoring game

“Checkdown” Campbell butcher the game?
Coach Jackson: Well, I think he did a good job and he’s 1-0 this year. The thing about quarterback play in the National Football League is winning and Jason Campbell right now is 1-0 in his division, and that’s what matters. Are there plays that we all wish we had back? Not just him; I think a lot of players would tell you there were plays that they wish they had back. But at the end of the day, I think what we’re most excited about is winning the football game last night in Denver.
Hmmm… anyone else reading between the lines? Not exactly a vote of confidence from Hue.
Why do you keep posting this
and ignoring the “Jason Campbell right now is 1-0 in his division, and that’s what matters”. Of course he doing the checkdown thing. We got no reliable receivers.
the hate for JC has gone way too far
Considering the turnover machines that we have had to deal with over the last decade, why is it so bad that we have a QB who is more focused on maintaining solid field position than going for the “big play”? We have the best punter in the league, so even if we go three and out, we still force opposing teams back deep into their own territory. This is a run first football team. I can’t stress that enough. Anyone who expects Campbell to throw for 300+ yards a game should find a new team to watch, that’s not what our offense is about. Pound the rock, consume the clock, wear down the defense, and rely on our superb special teams players to help the defense. As long as JC avoids turning the ball over, we will never have to rely on him to get us back into games, and that is the type of offense he is perfect for.

Get real...
Checkdown Campbell is not the answer at QB.
He cannot read defenses.
He WAITS FOR RECEIVERS TO GET OPEN.
He CANNOT throw deep (without making his receivers stop, wait and play jump ball, assuming he can keep the ball in bounds).
He’s AFRAID to throw over the middle unless the receiver to wide open.
STOP BLAMING THE WRs. We have no passing game because we have no QB.
those are some very valid stats you posted
but here is something with more basis to it than your obsessive hatred.
60% completion rate
69 TD – 46 INT rate
82.7 QB rating
That’s better than most QB’s in the league, and he isn’t going to be relied on very heavily. If you had DMC, Bush, and Reece in the backfield, your telling me you wouldn’t rather hand them the ball 2/3 of the time anyway? Campbell is here because he WON’T try to force plays, something that has plagued the Raiders QB’s for a long time. If you can find a way for the Patriots to trade us Tom Brady, then sure, cut Campbell. Otherwise, stop complaining about having a QB who won’t throw games away with boneheaded plays.

I see what you mean and there are times where that is true
but in this particular instance I don’t see the issue. When you start reading in to things I think most times people end up somewhere that is pretty far off track to where the reality of the situation really is. It is also impossible to read between the lines when you are reading it on paper and not actually watching the press conference the way Hue said this i dont think there is anything to it whatsoever.
Jbrat is searching for anything that remotely backs up his stupid speculation about our QB situation and is looking at everything through JC Hate goggles not being objective.

Watching Mcfadden’s, D-Line, Bush, TJ even Fat Bastard.those aren’t great reason or just the experience itself? …. Even if I don’t care for Campbell and I have been critical. He’s not just one guy out there. This ain’t figure skating! Jason Campbell and Eli Manning’s QB rating last year was very similar!
His numbers are not far off from Rich Gannon’s first year… Even though you are driving your point hard He plays a position that less that 100 people in the world are capable of doing…

Tough to throw INTs when you’re 4.8 Y/A, I’ll give you that… great stats.
Because….
JC CAN throw deep?
JC does NOT wait for receivers to get open?
JC CAN read defenses?
Because the Raiders CAN beat the Jets, the Pats, the Texans?
How ’bout those Browns?
Chargers? Vikings? Bears? Dolphins? Packers?
And the Lions?
Can JC take us to the SB? No one around here seems to care.
Playoffs? Playoffs… you’re talking playoffs… playoffs? Why should the playoffs matter, we’re Raider fans.
How ’bout just ONE winning season… for the first time in nearly a decade?
Guess that doesn’t matter either. Here’s to your incredibly LOW STANDARDS.
JC can and does throw deep
When somebody gets open, but they simply don’t get open. Not our speedster DHB, unless he’s running a hook pattern. Not our injured Louis Murphy or Jacoby Ford. Not our rookie Moore. And not our trade bait, underachiever Schilens. You saw Orton trying to force the ball on Monday, and throwing a lot of incompletions and a pick. You also saw Campbell being more sensible with the ball and relying on the running game as he should. Are you looking at the big picture? We have a bonafide star, potential all pro at running back. We have nobody like that at WR. And our “replacement” for Miller is still injured. In short, there’s nobody to throw the fucking ball to. So we might as well run heavy.
No he can't. Maybe one out of four, tops, is catchable.

He's not always on target, but
Even when he does, they don’t catch them. I still remember that ball bouncing off Nick Miller’s face mask in the Denver game last year. And then the overthrow to DHB on Monday. I mean, Darius is supposed to be fast, but yet again, he didn’t have his man beat, and couldn’t catch up to the ball. On the other hand, Ford in the 1st Chief’s game last year, yeah, he had to make adjustments to the ball, but nobody else seems to do that. They run their routes, usually don’t get open, and that’s it. Where’s my ball? they want to know.
Look, we all know Jason’s not going to the Hall of Fame. He’s not Gannon, not even close. But if he had an actual star receiver to work with, instead of a bunch of prospects,…
He'll have targets Sunday. Boss will play and Schilens has good hands - both run mid-range routes - within
Jason’s accuracy zone.

i like how you post the stats to 1 game (that he won)
and ignore his career stats. Pretty solid analysis there buddy. Not sure if you were aware, but the deep ball is not vital to a teams success, especially if it’s a run first team. But just to throw some more stats to further shut you up, JC had 1 less pass over 40 yards last year than Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, and only 2 less than Aaron Rodgers. And he isn’t here to be any of those players. It sounds to me, based on your criticism, that you want a QB who will force passes that aren’t there and constantly work the deep ball even when he shouldn’t. There’s a name for that player, and his name is Mark Sanchez. Go root for the jets if you want to see a QB try to make plays he knows he won’t be able to, moron.

What is your alternative right now?
It’s easy to point out negatives but what is your solution to this issue?
What is your plan to take us to the superbowl this year?
Does the fact that the players voted him a team captain mean anything to you?
Do you understand that the game plan against Denver did not call for JC to throw the ball down the field?
Do you not think that JC showed an ability to throw down the field in preseason?
Playing QB is all about executing the game plan and that is something that JC does quite well for this team.
"We’re going to be a tough, rugged football team that walks with a swagger and plays the way the Raiders used to play." Hue Jackson
I think this is a good point, Oz. We go with our best player in each position (theoretically at least). Campbell isn't the franchise QB
his contract ends when this season ends … unless he shows a marked improvement … so why belabor the point? Probably venting and putting Jason fans in an uncomfortable position.

Well
We’re not really expecting marked improvement, are we? I mean, Jason is what he is. If he had a bright future, he’d still be in Washington. But unless they’re going to make a move for Garrard, then what? They could have got to Kolb ahead of Arizona, but they didn’t. But with appropriate supporting cast, they won the SB with Plunkett, whose career wasn’t all roses either.
exactly
It’s really a waste of energy to even discuss because there isn’t going to be a change. I don’t think any of us are under the illusion that JC is going to win us a superbowl but he is good enough to progress the team and get us to the playoffs and in reality any other goal is unrealistic at this stage.

Don’t jump on me though OZ I like Campbell for Mr rightnow just saying he has deficiencies and we could have a better qb. When I watched him last year
He was not very good in relation to the talent he had around him.
2010 362 586 61.8 3,970 6.8 26 20 201 82.4
I don’t know if it was focus or what have you. The fact that he was willing to retire so easily… begs to question how much he really wanted to play. You can’t play a game as intense as this without desire…
JC can and does throw deep?
You cannot be serious?
DHB had 2 steps, but what happened? He had to WAIT for the ball. Why?
Because JC FLOATS EVERY DEEP BALL HE THROWS.
DHB makes the catch a yard out-of-bounds. Why?
Because JC FLOATS EVERY DEEP BALL HE THROWS, with most sailing HARMLESSLY OUT OF BOUNDS.
Any decent HIGH SCHOOL QB could complete that throw – at least 50% of the time.
Unless it’s a (1) Hitch, (2) Comeback or (3) Checkdown, JC WILL NOT COMPLETE A PASS ON SUNDAY V. THE BILLS.
DHB
is still bordering on “bust” status. Still has a long, long way to go to proving he was worth a #1. THIS:

Is what a real #1 draft pick at WR looks like. And that’s with Eli Manning throwing to him.
Besides, you seem to be missing the big picture. What are you gonna do? Put in Boller? Pryor?
You're making me defend the guy because you cant explain yourself
Jason Campbell in a run first Offense
2010 Oakland Raiders 8-8-0 329 194 59.0 2387 7.3 183.6 13 8 84.5
Rich Gannon in a past first offense
1999 Oakland Raiders 8-8-0 304 515 59.0 3840 7.5 240.0 24 14 86.5
Pretty comparable number overall Rich Gannon got way more love…
Why can’t he throw the deep ball I know why, do you?
