I finally got around to watching the whole game this afternoon, when my girlfriend (who is an absolute angel and who I love to death) came bearing a bottle of Russian Standard. It's now half empty. While I don't feel pissed I'm not always a great judge of my drunk-ness, so don't take anything I say too seriously.
Last season, we had our first .500 finish since the Super Bowl year. While most of us were happy to not be in the double digit losses again we knew that this team had the potential to be and should have been more.
The thing that killed us last year were little plays. If Jano makes that feild goal in Arizona (Although, in hindsight, given the recent info we've received about his supposed activities the day before he was probably a little distracted) we go 9-7. If Heyward-Bey makes that catch in Jacksonville we're 10-6 and in the playoffs. But no point mourning the past. The fact was, as improved we were last year we still continued to make silly mistakes at crucial moments.
Like we did in the Buffalo game. And now I'm worried. Good teams don't lose those games. If we want to be a playoff team we've gotta figure out how to get those wins. I'm fucked if I know what's wrong with the team - it's gotta be a mental thing cause L. Ron knows we aren't lacking in talent. Especially now that JC seems to finally be truly comfortable in the offense - that Buffalo game was one of the best Raider QB performances I've seen from my lifetime. (My youth is showing here, i know.)
Otherwise, I'm really hopeful for this week against the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS! Their offensive line has some issues, especially at RT and C with Mangold unlikely to play - perfect for our pass rush to redemm themselves after the shit sandwich that was the Bills game they served us. Sanchez has looked good so far this year but he's still not much more than a glorified game manager, and Shonn Greene looks like a bust (which makes me mad I took him in the third round of one of my fantasy teams thinking he's a potential sleeper). Of course the danger of their team is the defense - but their predilcition for blitzing plays into Campbell's fondness for shorter throws to the TE/RBs and screens. Bam.
I really should stop here. That half bottle of vodka is not about a quarter full and I am feeling the buzz.
SCrewfish out.
