A blank mind? Yes, this loss, despite my other team winning, still lurks in my head after 2 days, and may stay there until its almost time for the Jets. We lost, as Rich pointed out, by about 3 plays. We make those 3 plays, and we win. However I am inclined there is much more to it than that. Here are some things that I am sure you have heard before.
Fred Jackson ran all over us. I figured we would let up a big run or two, but Fred had about.... well off the top of my head he had about 5 20+ yard runs. Maybe more. One of my keys to the game was to stop the run, and we did so in the first half, but in the second, for some odd reason our defense changed gears. Maybe it was McFadden's fumble that ultimately started it all, but I don't know. There is no excuses for that kind of performance.
IN the second half, I constantly saw our guys out of position. It's like they weren't prepared for this at all. I blame this on coaching to tell the truth. You coach your players to play 60 minutes, and after the half, they thought this game was over. I guess the coaches didn't get through to their players in the second half.
5 possessions, 5 TDs. The game would have been won if 1 of 3 plays happened, but it would not have come to 3 plays in the first place if our defense did its job. The defense in the first half:
A) stopped the run pretty damn well
B) Committed 2 penalties
C) Played solid pass defense
Second half? We did none of those things right. A complete collapse.
What I can take away from this loss however, is that we know our offense can score points with the right guys on the field. Hagan and Moore both were great, dependable WRs that Campbell can trust. I still would like to see Ford in the starting lineup, but I can't complain. Campbell was also hardly touched AGAIN. This shows how our OL has come from last year. Campbell has time, and he executed plays last game that helped bring us 31 points. McFadden is a top 3 RB in the NFL hands down. he can do SOOOO much on the field.
I'll get up my keys to the Jet's game later. Tomorrow at the most hopefully.
