Fantasy Football Week 4: Raiders vs. Patriots Forecast

RaiderDamus here with another look ahead to the coming week's Raiders-Patriots game for fantasy football purposes. This game will feature two of the very best offenses in the game, but that's about all they have in common. The Raiders don't pass very much and the Patriots don't run very much. Neither team plays very much defense, so this will be a very exciting game for all involved. After the break, see what the fates have in store for the players on both teams and the fantasy owners lucky enough to own them!

Star-divide

START EVERYONE. These are two of the worst defenses in the league, and neither one will be able to stop the opposing offense. This will be an absolute shootout and the yards will be racked up like points in a pinball game. This really doesn't call for much detailed analysis so I'll just give you my prediction for each player of note:

Tom Brady: 375 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT

Wes Welker: 150 rec yds, 2 TDs

Deion Branch: 90 rec yds, 1 TD

Rob Gronkowski: 75 rec yds, 1 TD

Chad Ochocinco: 30 rec yds

Benjarvus Green-Ellis: 60 rush yds, 1 fumble lost

Danny Woodhead: 50 rush yds, 1 TD

Patriots defense: Bench them if you can. They are in the bottom five of the league and couldn't stop a runny nose.

And for the Raiders....

Jason Campbell: 230 passing yds, 2 TD, 2 INT

Darren McFadden: 240 rush yds, 2 TD (1 rec)

Michael Bush: 45 rush yds, 1 TD

Denarius Moore: 90 rec yds

Kevin Boss: 40 rec yds, 1 TD

Jacoby Ford: 35 rec yds, 1 TD (punt return)

Raiders defense: Bench them. They will probably give up at least 40 points and won't force enough turnovers to have a good fantasy day.

As you can see, this game will be a feast for fantasy fans and an exercise in frustration for the fans of the actual teams. I would advise setting your lineups while sober and watching the game drunk.

One thing i want to know from the community here, how many of you actually play fantasy football? If so, how are your teams looking and how many Raiders do you own?

My teams are looking awesome

because I bought into DMC and drafted him in all live drafts (in one he even lasted until the second round.)

I don’t generally buy into the draft RBs first mentality. My teams usually employ the Run and Shoot, especially in a PPR league.

On one team, Brees is my QB, DMC my #1 RB with Ryan Matthews as #2, and I also have Welker. Needless to say, I nearly broke 2 bills.

All three of my teams are undefeated.

we never retreat we always ATTACK!!!

In PPR leagues the strategy is totally different

The players that should be favored in the first round are high-target receivers and running backs like LeSean McCoy and Darren McFadden who are focal points of their team’s passing attack. McFadden should be considered as a top overall selection next year in PPR formats.

yeah, I was a little ahead of the curve

and figured DMC would have better rushing numbers than McCoy.

we never retreat we always ATTACK!!!

by transparent58 on Sep 29, 2011 5:50 PM PDT up reply actions

He does

But McCoy is #2 at rushing yardage, only 43 yards behind D-Mac. McCoy also has one more TD overall. Right now they are both making strong cases for top RB in fantasy.

raiders in fantasy

The only raiders worth having these days are DMC and to a much lesser extent Jacoby Ford and now Denrius Moore. And the latter are stretches at this point in their development. Bush used to be good as a flex starter but he hasnt gotten enough carries to take the risk of gettin only that goal line td.

Im debating whether to start Ford this week considering his health. Even though i heard he’s slated to give it a go. Thoughts?

by Dan Jacobson on Sep 29, 2011 5:28 PM PDT reply actions

Bush has two rushing TDs in the past two weeks

but yeah, he’s not getting very many touches so far.

I’m playing Moore this week because of the match up with the worst pass defense in football.

Ford will play this week, but no one really knows how much due to the performance of guys like Moore and Hagen in his absence. Hue loves the kid, though, so I can see him getting 3-4 touches on gadget/reverses, and and about 7 targets in the passing game.

I would start Ford as a flex or WR3

Because the Pats’ defense is awful. This is probably the best week to start him.

well its between...

ford and nate washington (@ cle) who takes on a bigger role with kenny britt going down

by Dan Jacobson on Sep 29, 2011 5:44 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah I like Washington a lot going forward

But I think Tennessee will try to get Chris Johnson going this week, and Joe Haden will probably be covering Washington. There will be better weeks for Washington, but if you can start both him and Ford you should probably try.

by RDreamer on Sep 29, 2011 5:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Im not going to start him

with how he struggled in Denver and the emergence of Moore, i think they will ease him back in this time.

Not a Campbell fan?

You call NE’s defense one of the worst in the league, but predict two interceptions for Campbell?

by rightnasty on Sep 29, 2011 5:46 PM PDT reply actions

Ryan Fitzpatrick was picked twice last week

I just say that because Campbell will be throwing more than usual against a crappy pass defense and because the game will be a shootout. Higher passing volume means more likelihood of INTs. I don’t think Campbell will have a bad game, but nobody remembers Fitzpatrick’s INTs because he won. Campbell will not be the reason the Raiders win nor will he be the reason the Raiders lose.

by RDreamer on Sep 29, 2011 5:51 PM PDT up reply actions

If Campbell didn’t throw any INTs against the freaking Jets secondary, I severely doubt that the Pats pushover secondary will create 2 of them.

by TrashyRambo on Sep 29, 2011 5:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Campbell didn't pass very often

Against the Patriots he will pass a lot more.

by RDreamer on Sep 29, 2011 6:41 PM PDT up reply actions

If you think McFadden will have 240 yards then JC will not need to pass

If he’s running we pass a lot less… Jason has only thrown 1 pick and you sat the Pats cant stop a runny nose how are they gonna get two picks?
And you have it at 35-35? But the Raiders will give up 40?

by samiam2112 on Sep 29, 2011 7:46 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't think DMac will have as many carries as last week

But will gain more yards. The Pats will put up lots of points and Jason will need to air it out a bit.

Also, I’m not predicting the final score until tomorrow so the point total here doesn’t matter- this is just an approximation of what I expect each player to get and it doesn’t take field goals into account. Obviously Jano and Gostkowski are terrific plays this week.

Apologies, RD

Your prognostication skills are both scary and (in this case) depressing. Still you called it.

by rightnasty on Oct 2, 2011 4:00 PM PDT up reply actions

He's also predicting 5 TDs per team

A little unrealistic, especially when you think that both sides will have turnovers.

by Terps12 on Sep 30, 2011 10:22 AM PDT up reply actions

Heh

Yeah, but that would be alot of fun to watch. I would LOVE to see McFadden rush for 240 yards.

It's a black out

QB Campbell, RB McFadden, WR Moore (before he got big),TE Boss, ST Seabass, DEF Raiders. I also drafted QB Aaron Rodgers, RB Felix Jones, TE Aaron Hernadez (glad he’s not playing this week), WR A.J. Green, RB Mark Ingram, WR Devery Henderson and the Jets Defense.

I paly two leagues

Yahoo! and NFL.com
I thought I messed up big this year and missed my live drafts, I was going to take Peyton Manning 1st round. Well I missed the draft and the auto-draft left me “stuck” with McFadden in NFL.com and Rogers in Yahoo!. Sometimes things just work out for the better.

I play the less involved version run at NFLUK

Traded Vick\Charles to get Brady\McFadden..

Best trade of the year for me to get Brady and McFadden. (I already drafted McFadden and Brady in my 2nd league.) SeaBass is another fantasy gem where 40 & 50+ FGs are for 4 & 5 points. Denarius Moore is a young star in the making, grabbed him in FA during halftime of the Bills game. Jacoby Ford was dropped early after he’s been injured, so he can be another special player if Oakland realize they should have Ford and Moore as the starting WRs.
McFadden\Brady have been carrying my team to a 3-0 1st place start. Hoping for another shootout, but Oakland finishing on top.

Got to give major credit to Campbell vs the Jets

Campbell did not force the issues. Threw the ball away when the play wasn’t there. Took what the defense gave him. Threw some perfectly deep balls to the correct match-up (vs Cromartie) and force him into creating penalties. These are just some of the game management items that won’t show up on stats. That final pass to Bush down the sideline which basically sealed the game was a thing of beauty. We would have won by double digits if it wasn’t for that shoelace saving tackle by the Jets LB.

by anhdazman on Sep 30, 2011 5:21 AM PDT reply actions

Last I checked ...

We did win by double-digits in the Jets game.

"I would advise setting your lineups while sober and watching the game drunk."

Sound advice…lol
I think you’ve got the Patriots predictions spot on, except maybe Brady will throw for more yards. I don’t expect McFadden to amass over 200 yds on the ground, though. Cumulative yards, maybe. I would maybe add that Demarius has a bigger day than predicted above (with at least 1 TD,) while Jacoby gets worked back into the offense a little more slowly but retains his return duties. I predict he’ll have at least one eye popping return that takes the wind out of the Patriots sails and turns the game around for us for a “W”…

My fantasy team is 3-0.

I have McFadden, Moore and Janokowski on my team. I have Gronkowski at TE and the law firm as a back up RB, but there’s no way I’m starting him over McFadden and McCoy. Overall I’m happy though I will be replacing the NE defense this week.
