Oakland Raiders Roster Cuts: Sheppard and McFadden Get Axe
The first wave of announced cuts are a bit of a surprise. Walter McFadden and Lito Sheppard were both released. This is good news for Sterling Moore. The fact that Moore may make this team is a testament to Hue Jackson's statement that on-field performance was going to be the determining factor in cuts.
Moore has consistently been the one Raider backup CB that has made plays.
What does not lend credence to Hue's statement is the fact that Lito Sheppard was cut before Joey Porter. Sheppard's late acquisition meant that he was only able to get on the field for one game in the preseason, but in that one game he vastly outperformed Porter.
Porter may have been the worst player on the field against Seattle. He was easily tossed aside in coverage and he whiffed on several tackles. Meanwhile, Sheppard was not spectacular, but he showed solid instincts and closing speed.
I'll still be surprised if Porter makes this team. We will find out shortly.

In this economy I don't like seeing anyone loose their job
Walter did not show the growth needed to be better than last year and I hope this means Sterling Moore made the grade.
I still feel after the dust settles if they still need a corner Lito could be brought back in,
Losing a job isn't funny
Walter should have played better, he had the most playing time, which means they was giving him a chance, but its the nfl and only the strong survive. lito played alright, nothing really stood out? i dont think the raiders was impressed with his age, meaning his speed, i think he just looked slow on the defense to the raiders and slowed the pace for the D.

Yup indeed
Walter never looked comfortable and the Raiders gave him more than an ample shot of making the team. When the team gives you an opportunity you have to rise, or be part of the fallen…
The thought of anyone losing a job is sad, but I don't think anyone feels guilty for Walt.
He has been observed for 2 preseasons and one full regular season. He had his fair share of showing what he could do and perhaps more of a chance than others. Same applies to Ware and Brown. These players might have had their bright spots but not enough to convince.
I at times felt that Ware and Brown were going to make the team, but presumably the Raider coaching staff knows better.
I wonder if Hue or Bresnehan are influencing Davis into this?
If so, I think this is good in the long run. Note that Sam Williams is now gone. Something is going on because Sam was an Al favorite.
I always thought Lito Sheppard was a much better player than he got credit for

Porter is poo poo. Yes he had the blocked kick but I was surprised after AZ,SF,NO that he even took reps from legit prospects
Also, Sterling Moore is receiving way too much love – probably stemming from his play against AZ which was quite good. Since then SMo was torched on the 2pt conversion v NO and last night pulled a Groves on the goalline stand in Seattle, totally whiffing his shot at Clayton who scored the Hags 1st TD

He
played a little better besides that PI I didnt really see it, unless he held?
I thought he covered the guy well.
I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP
thats terrible
huff better not play CB cuz thats stupid, hes a ball hawk and is way better then chekwa so they better not put huff at CB or we are screwed

In OTHER cuts
Kiffen is managing to cut his teams comfortable lead in the USC game I’m watching
Kick their ass and take their stuff!
LOL
Barkley is Horrible aka Matt Leinart, Pryor was scouted and was wanted to play for USC he would be starting over Barkley
ok
Matt Leinart was a heisman winner, thanks for proving my point that Barkley is great.Lots of players could be playing different places.

Oh God . . . Friggin’ Mitchell. Really wish we had let the Bears use up a second round pick on him.

Breaking news: Mike Mitchell isn’t that good. Not a ball hawk. Decent in coverage. Won’t beat out Branch for starting spot anytime soon.

Mitchell
is decent in coverage, but a very hard hitter, he is alright but he needs to learn how to play better coverage, especially man 2 man coverage. He often over shoots sometimes and i notice that he is raw still, but he does bring a good versatility to the raiders, he is quick and can cover ground alot and a great tackler.

Peace out, Lil Walty
Rumor has it the Turk had a hard time finding him to send him to Hue because Walter was out of position.

So Sterling Moore is gonna stay!?!?
Great!! Now I can watch his highlight vid on youtube!! lol
Clippers own staples center!!!
Not sure about him yet ... very mixed data, brilliant one moment and lame the next. Still, for a rookie he shows courage and natural ability

Never noticed brilliance in either wMcfadden or Ware. Ware is a tough dude but generally a split second late
