Obviously, the Nation knows what happened in Oakland against San Diego, where we got the help we needed, but choked and gave it to our archrival Denver Broncos. So, starting Monday, this team should rebuild itself at each position. I will say who stays, who goes, or who's on the fence
Quarterback
Carson Palmer- EDIT: Stays
Jason Campbell- EDIT: Goes
Kyle Boller- Goes
Terrelle Pryor- Stays
Look, Oakland gave now what will be a first and a 2013 second round pick for Carson Palmer, and it's time to cut our losses. He's 32 years old, and through 16 INTs in 9 games. Jason Campbell, all be it having Darren McFadden in the backfield, ran this offense better. I'd like Oakland to bring in Matt Flynn or Chad Henne is as competition for Campbell and to go forward with that until 2013, where if they struggle, we will look at a QB in 2013. Pryor will stay as the project that may be given a chance in late 2013-early 2014.
EDIT: After pondering it, I felt Palmer did really well yesterday. He wasn't the reason we lost. We shouldn't score 25+ and lose 4 times. Campbell could do well in Miami, and I sure hope he isn't Tebow's successor in Denver.
Running Back
Darren McFadden-Goes [via Trade]
Mike Bush-Stays
Taiwan Jones- Stays
Marcel Reece- Stays
Manese Tonga-Goes
Rock Cartwright-Goes
Mike Bush has been a horse for us, and is absolutely not someone we need to get rid of. Taiwan Jones was a steal in the 4th round, but he needs to take a Dexter McCluster-type role to stay healthy. Marcel Reece is the best FB in the NFL, so he will stay. McFadden needs to be traded and we cut our losses again. He is injury prone, and we cannot just leave Mike Bush by himself for 16 games in the NFL. A 2nd and 4th for McFadden would be a dream, and it'd also help us re cooperate some of the foolish pick spending of the last year. Rock Cartwright is a captain, but his penalty and mouth after such penalty against San Diego was not the act of a captain. Similar to Santonio Holmes giving up on New York.
Receiving Corps
Jacoby Ford-Stays
Denarius Moore-Stays
Darrius Heyward-Bey-Stays
Louis Murphy-Stays
Chaz Schilens-Stays
TJ Housmanzadeh- Goes
All the change needed here is cutting the worst signing of the year in TJ. Another Hue guy, just like Palmer, who also should leave. Maybe add another experienced receiver like Derek Hagan and this group is good to go.
Offensive Line
Jared Veldheer-Stays
Stefan Wisnewski- Stays
Samson Satele-Goes
Cooper Carlisle-Goes
Khalif Barnes-Goes
Stephon Heyer-Stays
Joe Barksdale-Stays
Wisnewski will be here and our center next year, as will our franchise LT Jared Veldheer. Stephon Heyer played one game at LG in San Diego, and our O-Line looked the best it did all season. Joe Barksdale could be in the works as a serviceable RT. Everyone else needs to go. Oakland should pursue a few veteran offensive lineman. My first choice for RG is Andre Gurode of Baltimore. A solid, pro bowl G that would be a great leadership figure on this line. Others could be Deuce Lutui of Arizona or Bobbie Williams of Cincinnati. For right tackle, I think the Raiders should go inter-division with RT Barry Richardson of Kansas City. He's a good tackle who was a bright spot on an overall weak Kansas City team. He protected Tyler Palko's blindside fairly well. Others could be OTs Demetrius Bell or Oniel Cousins (Buffalo and Cleveland)
Defensive Line
Richard Seymour-Stays
Tommy Kelly-Stays
Lamarr Houston- Stays
Jarvis Moss-Stays
Desmond Bryant-Stays
Matt Shaugnessy-Goes
I am a proponent of Oakland moving to the 3-4 Defense, with defensive ends Seymour, Houston, Bryant and Moss, and nose tackles Tommy Kelly and a free agent like Sione Pouha, as the Jets will be doing the same thing.
EDIT: I still stay Shaugnessy goes. He is injury prone and doesn't fit the 3-4 mold.
Linebackers
Rolando McClain-Stays
Aaron Curry-Stays
Kamerion Wimbley-Stays
Quentin Groves-Stays
Darryl Blackstock-Goes
Ricky Brown-Goes
We'll need a couple more 3-4 linebackers. Our starters right now will occupy 3 of the 4 linebacker slots, with the WILL linebacker still needing to be filled. I think we should go here with the compensatory 3rd rounder we get for Nnamdi Asomugha. Bobby Wagner from Utah State could be available there, or we could fill it through a free agent signing like Dan Connor from Carolina or Curtis Lofton from Atlanta.
Defensive Secondary
Stanford Routt-Stays
Lito Sheppard-Goes
DeMarcus Van Dyke-Goes
Chimdi Chekwa-Stays
Bryan McCann-Goes
Jerome Boyd-Goes
Hiram Eugene-Goes
Chi...Ndukwe-Goes
Mike Huff-Goes
Matt Giordano-Stays
Tyvon Branch-Stays
Oh boy. By far the worst part of the Oakland Raiders. Giordano, Huff, and Branch should return as the safeties, with a late round pick backing up Branch. The cornerbacks will be completely turned over. The new regime will cut DVD, a mistake of a third rounder, McCann, Lito Sheppard, and Boyd. Routt will go opposite of a veteran free agent like Cortland Finnegan, Tracy Porter, or Terrell Thomas. If we get a 2nd rounder for McFadden, this will be the pick position if Trent Richardson doesn't slide to Round 2. Stephon Gilmore from South Carolina would be a great pick there. If these happen, the secondary should be better.
Special Teams
Really? Janikowski, Lechler, Condo, Ford, and Moore will all be back.
Coaching Staff
Hue Jackson-On the Fence
Chuck Breshnahan-GTFO
Al Saunders-Goes
GM?- Yes
Hue Jackson will likely be back, but I'm not sure he's right for the job. His team was out of control all season and he had no discipline or authority. Setting both penalty records is funny, but embarrassing at the same time. Chuck Breshnahan will be fired. Period. I like Jack Del Rio to replace Chuckie. And if we did replace Hue Jackson, I'd love love love Jeff Fisher for discipline.
The new GM should be John Madden. See John Elway. He's in the playoffs. Period.
Comment how you think we should improve the team or if you agree with my choices.
