Oakland Raiders: A Look at 2012 Opponents
Today sucked. This defense is terrible, and the Chargers offense is still good when Rivers gets time. This defense needs work. Use this thread to vent, bitch or whatever else you want.
I'm already ready for next season, and I just want to put the misery of opportunities missed behind me. In light of that here are the teams the Raiders will play.
And the usual AFC West suspects
I have to be honest, that scedule looks pretty brutal. A lot changes in a year in the NFL, but as it is now the only teams I see on that list where I look at and think that should definitely be a win are the Browns and the Buccaneers (who might be the worst team in the history of the NFL right now).
The Jaguars are awful, but with Maurice Jones-Drew and the Raiders run defense, I won't say that is an easy one. The Panthers defense is terrible, but with Newton's running ability against the Raiders = me nervous.
Still, this is a long time away. Hopefully, the Raiders' defense is a different beast next year.

After the miserable way he handled our team I was amazed anyone would hire him.
The sooner he is gone from your team the sooner your world gets better. Believe me.

Who do u guys think our next d coordinator should be?
An outside candidate? Inside promotion? Former NFL hc/dc? What bout a stud college hc/assistant

MY dad and I say
Jack Del Rio since he is a D minded coach and from Bay area…This D needs a serious change of pace and face lift…Going to stay 4-3 but going to need a full year out of CJ or pick up a better corner like Cort finagan? The raiders O is fine the special teams could be better but I really think things need to change on D and a few people need to go and bring in new ones.

Agree...
I like Jack Del Rio or Spags… I hope Tamba gives Morris another year, but if he is let go I wouldn’t mind… @ this point I wouldn’t mind myself @ DC… I seem to have more of a clue… I never wish a man to lose his job, but @ this level u have to earn your keep and pay… We definitely need to get another LB and move Wimbly to DE… we have some pieces we can trade for another teams LB… We definitely need another CB… Routt needs to relax and stop panicking when the ball is thrown his way… He plays very aggressive which I love, but costs us big in critical moments… Not to worried about next yrs schedule as long as we make solid moves in the offseason to address our needs… Unlike many Raiders fans, I’m happy with the direction of this team and happy with Hue as HC… He needs to check his players on this penalty situation, but this will be a offseason where he will have full contact with players… A lot to keep in mind @ these bitter times…

#Raiders were interested in Raheem Morris a few years ago. Not sure if he will be on the radar this offseason. Keep an eye on that name.
That would suck.

False
Raheem morris was NEVER the dc in tampa before he was hired as hc. He was a defensive backs coach prematurely hired at age 33. Then he made himself the dc, and colossally failed in every aspect of his job within 3 years.
by lchristmas on Jan 3, 2012 5:35 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
Which is why those asking for Woodson to be our DC are crazy
You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.
I dont want woodson to be dc either
But this reasoning doesn’t follow. Woodson could be good, he could be horrible. Everyone has to start somewhere and I dont remember raheem morris being an all pro hall of famer at two different positions in the nfl.
by lchristmas on Jan 3, 2012 7:51 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
Woodson is 0-1 so far
FAIL on this year’s secondary…. He better hope he can blame Chuck. On that note, Beikert was not good this year either. Ro took a HUGE step backwards, and KW was less effective too (except the SD game where he only had to blow up Rivers.
He was coaching street free agents and dealing with chucks awful schemes
I will give him a pass, I agree he has proven nothing as a coach but based on the kind of player he was, my money says he will end up being very good.

I still think we need another lb and let wimbley play de full time and del rio also has my vote but what about Jeff Fischer ?
by 209raider on Jan 2, 2012 1:04 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
I dont believe Fisher would come in as only a DC... its a few HC job openings that he would take 1st i think...
Spags is said to be fired tomorrow by the Rams… We also need a GM… We need some real football heads with this organization… We need a Dungy type guy @ GM… A guy that can connect with these players… We have so many pieces but so many holes… We will have to depart with a few guys tho…
by GODSxWARRIOR on Jan 2, 2012 1:16 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
I don't think Dungy wants that role.
The Packers organization is the one to pilfer.
Al Davis the Greatest Raider of all times... You will live forever in the hearts of true Raider fans...RIP
Spagnulo or Del Rio for sure
We need a strong DC that I’d capable of developing a game plan on his own and can provide support to Hue (assuming he is Here next year)
If Chucky is interested in coming back we need to snap him up immediately.

Do u really think mark Davis will fire the last guy his late father picked before he died just after one year? I don’t I think it’s a respect thing. I think all we need is some key FA to fill some holes on d and possibly a vet wr?

I agree it is unlikely that Hue will be gone
The thing I didnt like in Hue’s press conference was when he said.
“I am going to take a stronger hand with this WHOLE ORGANISATION”
I am happy he plans to take a more active role with the defence but he needs to know his role and leave the ‘whole organisation’ to Amy and the new GM and needs to check his ego – he is NOT a GM and can not be trusted with ultimate autonomy.

Hue needs less responsibility not more
He is bordering.on being a delusional power tripper
by lchristmas on Jan 2, 2012 12:30 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
I agree, the “whole organization” comment rubbed me wrong as well!!! Hue….you are not A.D., so don’t even put yourself in that position. Hue needs less control not more. At some point in time Madden has to have some say on this team. Our defensive coordinator needs to be fired today, and Hue has not impressed me at all. I could coach when everyone is healthy, it is what they do when they don’t have all their weapons….and we all seen the results of this! Next years schedule looks harder than this years, changes need to happen quickly.
I think he should be fired, Al would have already done it!!!! We need a total realignment, front office and players combined. Our secondary sucks (except Branch) Stanford “pass interferance” Rout needs to be cut. I really thought our secondary would be great with Woodson there, but the players cannot cover anyone! If we had McFadden we are in the playoffs….period! But with that said we did not let Bush run the ball much over the last couple of weeks either. Bush has to stay because McFadden is only good for a couple of games a year.
Mike Nolan os Steve Spagnuolo

Dirty Harry Callahan
Need an outsider that will bring in his own assistants.
Sadly Al always had his belief in what he wanted his defense to look like and it needs to be overhauled with a scheme for the new millineum. At least, now we all know now that we cannot continue with the status quo as our defense allowed 433 points this season, the second highest total in team history including an average of 37.5 in 4 of our last 5 games this season. That is not a sign that this side of the ball is progressing at all. There should also not be any excuses since Lito Sheppard was playing better than almost anybody out there and we picked him up off the street mid-season.

Personally I thought he was pretty good at first ...
Terrible down the stretch … Rivers torched him, he missed a couple hugely important tackles in that game. I don’t want him back, myself … maybe as a nickleback, not anywhere near our #1-2 corner spots.

Our schedule will be the easiest in the division
The sole benefit of today’s loss.
Look, you only play two different games from the other team’s in your division.
**We get Miami and Jax.
**Denver gets New England and Houston.
**SD gets New York Jets and Tennessee.
**KC gets Buffalo and Indy.
As for the rest of the schedule, it will be tough for every team in the division. Next year, we need to get better, plain and simple. Statistically, we haven’t even been an 8-8 team the last two years. We’ve been worse. We need to turn it around on defense like Houston and the Niners have done.
One stat makes the point: In all 8 of our losses we gave up at least 28 points.
So True!...
That’s y I say I’m not worried about the schedule, but I’m on edge about the moves we should make this offseason… I know some believe we need JC back… But, its one or the other… We won’t and shouldn’t have JC and CP… Keep one and groom TP as the backup… But this D is the huge hole… 2 99 yrd drives in 3 weeks… Wow… Both to give the other team the winning TD… Both games could have gave us the title and the steelers @ home next week… Man!!…

I got nothing to say.
The three day stretch when my great uncle and Mr Davis died was the worst period of my life, but I gotta say – these past three (starting with New Years Eve) have given it some real competition. And no one even had to die.
Only good thing was that I drank enough to pass out and be ready for work tonight – hungover but at least I’m somewhat rested.
End of the world, come at me bro. It can’t be worse right now.

With a reasonably healthy team we can beat the Falcons and any team at a Wild Card level. I do expect wholesale changsz on defense though. What we have now in unacceptable.

Did I say we couldnt beat play off teams?..uh NO
Without changes we are still average. We will be the same next year without changes and to sit here and say we will be 0-16 or 16-0 till we see what happens in regards to a GM ,Coaches, draft or FA is pointless. WHAT I did say is that this schedule is not easy based on the amount of play off teams it contains from this year. You cannot talk about we should have won …we lost to Buffalo, and Miami 2 teams not even in the play offs. However I did not say we cannot beat play off teams. If you play 6 teams with a record under .500 your schedule would be easier than if you played 6 teams in the play offs. HOWEVER that does not mean it WILL be. Injuries ,retirements , improvements by others etc have a way of evening things out. Besides do you want to be a one year play off flash like the Cardinals or a perennial play off contender like Pitt or NE?

How is Carson Palmer a real QB and Campbell is not?
They won the same amount of games for us this year…Campbell was 4-2 and Palmer was 4-5…I don’t count the KC game. I realize that Palmer had some adjusting to do but he didn’t produce any better results than Campbell did at the end of the day.

Well, its over now...the Raiders though 8-8 again have made some improvements we all saw...
Yet we all agree the Raiders need to have a readjustment on defense, from Coaching to Personnel. The playoffs was ours to win or lose, and we lost. Every player on that team knows there will be consequences for that…So we now begin the process of preparing for next season.
I will be writing a post a little later, lets keep it positive, look at the gains this year and remember we played most of the season without out best players on the field or with them injured.

ex-Bengali here...
Huge disappointment for this longtime CP3 fan – no defense and a KO return for a TD. Even more disappointed knowing the Bengalis backed into the playoffs without 1 single victory over a winning opponent.
That said…..
Quite optimistic for 2012
1. Replace ChuckB – he was a passive disaster in Cincy as he was for Raiduhs
2. Find an aggressive DC who will attack – Nolan, DelRio.
3. I strongly suggest Hue allow the OC (Al Saunders) to call the plays
4. Strengthen OL to improve pass & run blocking – esp up the middle
5. Finally – some time during upcoming OTA/Training Camp/Pre-season for CP3 to begin his fine tuning and knowing the subtleties of (hopefully) healthy receivers.
With a strong, aggressive defense and a healthy offense, the Super Bowl is there for the taking and CP3 can lead this team to that goal!
Really looking forward to the Raiders game here in Cincy next year. It will be epic.

As a fan of the only team in the division that wasn’t able to finish 8-8, yesterday was perfect.
KC scored a whooping 7 points and still beat the Fighting Tebow’s. Normally, this would be bad because sucking out loud like that would mean a change at QB. However, with the Raider’s doing what they always do and choking on it, DEN will now start Tebow for at least another year because “ZOMG!111, all he does is win and take us to the playoffs”.
That combined with OAK selling out their future to win now, yet still missing the post-season and SD circling the drain helps start 2012 off on the right foot.

Oh because he has done so well with the DBs this year
They seem to always be in position, and make the tackles. They also do a really good job at playing the ball. hahahahahahaha!
The secondary was so beat up cant blame Woodson for that .
Woodson wasn’t making the D play calls but can and did in his career and als played in the Dick Labough system he would understand when and how to blitz. he would also know what coverages should be applied.
Ross is the DB coach Rod is the assistant.
you don’t think Routt god jobbed a few times?

being out of position has nothing to do with the injuries....
Thats just bad assignment teaching, and angles
He has only been a DB coach for one year
he is not in a position to design a defence.
Can we just stop throwing nice names around for positions and actually look at people that are qualified for the DC and GM role please? Tom Flores or Jim Plunkett are not GM candidates and Rod Woodson is not a Defensive Co-Ordiantor

not saying he is a bad ass DC, but the team knew his deal, and after mr davis’ passing, the reins would have free’d up. pretty much the same 11 on D when marshall was here went backwards from 11th to 29th and the sacks also went down. remember how we beat s.d. last year that first time??? marshall blitzed that a hole rivers over and over. we beat them this year down south with great pressure but some how fat head chuck could create any new effective blitzes and low and behold, rivers went untouched and had a field day. marshall would have let us play this sunday!

Do not expect more next year, you know the definition of insanity is...
Doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting different results.
Hey Guys, been reading this for a few years and decided to finally post. Hello and Happy New Year to all.
I don’t expect Bres to get fired though I wish he would. He’s Hue and Al’s boy and isn’t going anywhere. I also doubt the Davis family will hire a GM, keeping it all in the family. Also, who wants to walk into a new job with no draft picks? Our defense needs to be upgraded, but I just don’t see it happening. We have boatloads of talent, but just always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Though, having Shaughnessy back will make a HUGE difference in the pass rush.
Someone else said Finnegan was FA, he would be a great defensive pickup.
In other areas, we absolutely have to resign Bush; I don’t care if you franchise his ass, do it. Yes, teams caught onto him quite quickly, but McFadden always gets hurt, and you can’t expect TJ to hold up for 20 carries a game when he’s tiny and made of glass too. That will turn us into a passing team; though with 4 burners and Boss on the field, that might not be so bad. Speaking of, you see Braylon Edwards was released? Any thoughts on picking him up on a flyer as a tall guy opposite Boss or Schilens?
Anywho, that’s what’s on my mind now. Again, hello and Happy New Year to all. Peace.
No Braylon
his knee is bad!!! He was released week 17 from the Niners it’s kinda fishy they could have IR’d him he was there all season and they toss him out like that…

Nine years without a winning record. The Raiders are turning into the Bengals! This has to change. You can’t say you are making progress losing the last 4 out of 5 games of the season.

What happened to Trevor Scott? He seemed non-existent.

Mitch missed a few tackles this year I would have liked to see more of him he just wasnt healthy...
I would have liked to see him healthy and playing he could make better adjustment calls for the D than McLain can…
Geo was one of the best Safeties we had this year.
I’m not sold on Tyvon hes talented! Hes to small to play SS IMO
Huff made very few plays all year paid to much and didn’t cover well in the nickle spot way overpaid we missed Hiram Eugene but may have found Geo in that process!
Truthfully not many players deserve to return it was pathetic when you look at the group as a whole.

I'm a fan of Giordano as he had some key INT's and covers te field well.
If he’s our backup FS I’m stoked. I just think Mitchell doesn’t have the speed for Safety? maybe hybrid weakside backer but I think we need to restructure contracts and work tough during FA period.

I can understand to a certain degree, but dammit, I’m so sick of shitty teams fans always putting my team down, at some point this kinda stuff has got to stop.
Then why don't you stop coming over here and trolling us?
You guys are really getting annoying with your asinine little “Bengals fan here!” comments, and your repetitive anti-Carson diatribes. We get it. Enough already. We’ll say whatever we want about any team. Whether you like it or not. If you don’t like it, do us all a favor and get the hell out, because you guys sure aren’t adding much to the conversation. Guess what, we’re sick of people constantly putting our team down, too—and I guaran-damn-tee you that we’ve heard more negativity directed at us over the course of one game, than you’ve heard in your entire lifetime. So don’t come whining to us about how your team doesn’t get any respect. The RAIDERS are not a “shitty” team, by any means. When they get their act together, and fix what they need to fix, they’ll be better than your sure-to-be-first-round-exit Bengals.

Time to make trades for draft picks!!! Mike Mitchell sucks... Time to release him and focus on getting another CB and FS by any means necessarry.
Giordano is a good backup FS but I think Huff needs to go and Routt, Seymour, Kelly, and Wimberly need paycuts.
I’m not sold on McClain and maybe we can trade him for a draft pick?
Every man for himself...
We just signed Huff to a 4 yr deal worth $32 mil last off season.
He has 3 yrs left & would be a huge cap hit if cut & no team in their right mind would trade for his injury-prone over-paid ass.

I wish we would have let Huff walk last year
He isn’t worth his contract at all but then again…we have lots of players not worth their contracts.
You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.
Look at the past and looking toward the future
This is going to sound bad but in some ways I’m glad the raiders didn’t get in because honestly if they did how far would have they gone. Them not getting in is going to be a major wake up call and will cause things to be changed for the better.
A look back honestly the only really good victories I saw this season were the jets and the texans. The others were against teams who had major injuries and even with that it was down to the last minute. The raiders have not had a really blowout victory this season.
At the palmer trade, we did need a quarterback because boller was not the guy but I would say we paid a high price for it. But on the flip side I do believe next season will be different because palmer will have the time and training with his team. As for Jason, I love the guy and would love him to stay and be a backup rather than boller but he said it before that he wants to start and there is no way that hue is going to have a another quarterback controversy like last season.
A look at the future, major and I mean major changes need to come into play. One the defense needs to change starting from the top and clean up house. This season the offense was alright given the injuries and time palmer had to learn the playbook but the defense was horrible. It was like dr. jekyll and mr. hyde. You didn’t know what defense was playing on the field. The bills and lions game is a pure example of games where the win should have been guaranteed.
They have to bring in someone to be general manager because Hue I love him as a coach but he shouldn’t be controlling that much power which he seems to be doing right now.
Some players might have to be let go, traded , or at least get a pay cut to allow some money to be freed up to get people sign. The running game for starts, get Bush lockdown and sign him he is too good to be let go but he needs someone to be his partner in the running game. Its too early to know if jones is the guy but darren he is so accident prone. There has not been one season where he played all the games. I don’t want to let him go but honestly what was up with his injury this season. Hue should have signed another running back to help bush. Heck I wouldn’t blame the raiders if they traded darren for some draft picks since they pretty much have none this coming draft and hope for the best ti either draft one or sign one in the off season.
As for the schedule, any season is going to have its easy and tough opponents. You might be surprise how a year could change things. Look at the colts they were the team to be scared of but this season they were the easy win. Its going to be interesting the match up against the bengals I hope is home game because palmer going over there to play will be a media feeding frenzy for him.
I really hope they do make major changes to staff and players. If Hue really means he wants to win at any cost that what needs to be done. This season the fans really trusted him and thats why all the home games were sold out but if they don’t make any changes and remain the same old raiders don’t expect fans to rush to buy tickets to their home games. Go Raiders 2012
looks like 6-10 next year
split the division, lose to PIT, BAL, CINCY, MIA, NO, ATL, CAR (can’t stop running QBs). And why in the fuck do the Raiders alway play miami, in miami? WTF!!!!!! Can’t they ever come to cali?
Your memory is short ...
We played them here in 2010, remember?
We play every AFC team at least every 3 years, for starters … this year we played them because we played the whole AFC East. We’ve ended up playing Miami more often lately because we’ve been ending up at the same spot in our respective divisions.

I'm still sick to my stomach and disappointed. It really hurts because we want answers and other than Breshnahan
who’s going to get cut / released / traded from Hue’s offseason adjustments…
the fans believed in Hue and it’s that much more sickening to start 2012
Every man for himself...
Raiders were powerehouses in the 70s early 80s
Teams like Pittsburgh Baltimore/Colts/Indy Colts/Baltimore Ravens Miami were all tough in the 70s and Pittsburgh still somehow knows that winning formula. Miami has faltered but they are on the rise as you can see by the mid season turn around, Just odd the Raiders don;t have much success and everyone use to blame it on Al Davis. Their were billboards telling Al to hire a GM because the old man didn’t know what he was doing. I know this the team al built but now that he is gone, we will see if the critics were right about Al. I still wished we picked up Megaatron instead of Jamarcus Buster. What a waste of a few years with that dude. Reminds me of the Schroeder and Jeff George days yuk

Bring back Jason CAmpbell
I think carson is passed his prime. He may be trade bait to the SEahawks for a few draft picks.
-1 just my opinion... He threw for 417 yrds and that last INT Ford slipped the route.
I think we need to let Khalif Barnes and Cooper Carlisle go…
Mayb Gaither can be our RT for next year??
Can we move Lamarr Houston to DT??

Can we stop pointing to stats as a reason why Palmer is a better QB than Jason
Carson may have had more yards and TD but he also had a shitload worse turnover rate and I dont think there is any question that we were a better TEAM with JC.

Here's a stat from this year
Campbell starting 4-2
Palmer starting 4-5
You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.
Here is a another fact
McFadden…JC had him – Palmer didn’t… that alone makes your stat invalid.
This is a completely different offense when D-Mac is around, and to say that JC is better than Palmer is ridiculous.
And for Oz: I think there is plenty of question as to whether we are a better team with Campbell in there. McFadden took all the pressure off him and was the focal point of the offense, Before passing judgment I’d like to see Palmer with a full year in this system and with McFadden playing with him,
To compare the two at this point is pointless!

Campbell is also younger is he not
Plus has never had the same OC for more than 2 years ,Finally he gets a chance and bam Injury I tend to agree that CP maybe better as a pure thrower but I can not say defineatively he is a better leader. Just as everyone wants to see how Palmer will do with OTAs Mini camp and a full training camp. I would too HOWEVER I would have also been comfortable with watching a Full season with Campbell to see if he could do it.
It is apples and Oranges. Carson is a Gunslinger Jason is a grinder management guy but he can scramble too.

Here is another fact
Campbell salary 4 million Palmer salary 13 million.
For a somewhat negligible difference in performance Campbell also gives us a lot more flexibility in free agency. I also prefer a QB how doesnt turn the ball over and throwns for less yards than a QB that throws for more yards and turns the ball over a LOT.

Carson only made $ 2.5 million for this season
He took a $5 million pay cut to come to the Raiders and that was pro-rated to games on the team for a total of $2.5 million for 2011. So he was cheaper than Campbell, who cost $4 million for 2011.
Palmer is scheduled to make $12.5 million next season, $13 million in 2013 and $15 million in 2014.
He will probably restructure to help the Raiders out if asked, this guy wants to win and if giving up a little of his salary helps, I’m sure he’d do it.
If it is your preference to have JC as QB that is your business, but the reality is that Palmer is the starting QB for this team and most people believe he is a huge upgrade over Campbell.
I would hope JC stays around as a backup next year as he has proven he can run this offense fairly well, but somebody will promise him a chance to start…which we probably will not do and JC still believes he is a starter in this league.
I do feel bad for JC he is a good guy, but his luck just seems the worst, but I also believe the Raiders are better off now with Carson as our QB

the snake had a shitty t.o. ratio too
but when we had to go the length of the football field in a short amount of time, he could get it done. he could move the ball down the field, alla like palmer. campbell doesnt have this ability.

Exactly...If you have a QB that gambles and makes poor decisions at times
You better have a defense that can offset that and sometimes get the ball back again with little to no damage.
You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.
Campbell is going to be a BU somewhere might as well be here...
There is not going to be a big run for JC as a starter anywhere when you look at what teams need a QB.
Al Davis the Greatest Raider of all times... You will live forever in the hearts of true Raider fans...RIP
That's what you got out of this season???
Campbell could be a solid backup for us next year, but he is no where near the QB that Palmer is.
Granted Palmer takes too many chances and forces the ball into places he shouldn’t sometimes, but Campbell hasn’t got the accuracy to throw the ball down the sidelines or deep and takes no chances.
I’d like to see how JC would have played without McFadden…it would have been a massacre.
Besides it’s our shit defensive scheme and DC that cost us this year. If the defense had actually just played mediocre we could have been 12-4.
If you think this season would have been any better had JC been the QB, then you’re dreaming!

The reason Fuck Bresnahan needs to be fired....
Running a stupid Tampa2 sets with receivers your LB’s can’t cover and continuing to do so! The last few weeks scheme was a bigger issue than effort. You can’t always say that for the D.
the effects of Tom Cable on the D still remain. Thomas Howard would have been a big help to this D this year.
Healthy players and a couple of tweaks could start the turn of the D it just ain’t nasty enough!!!
Romac has played better but is nowhere near what need to be the MLB. He’s probably untradable at this point so we are stuck with an idiot who doesn’t make good calls or adjustments!

Palmer said it best
This season was a failure. The way he defends the WR corp really has me believing next year will be soooo much better. He said himself he could not be mad at these young guys because of the way they practice. They are putting in the work, we just need to capitalize. This is not our cause for concern. Who would complain if we could get a guy like Santonio Holmes here to help though?
Who wants a paycheck…raise your hand. Who is hear to help this team be the best they can be and showcase all this talent when in they are in the spotlight? I bet some will be reluctant to raise their hand the second time around. You could tell during yesterday’s game who showed up to give us a chance and who was out there to collect the paycheck.
We all know Bresnahan needs to go, so I wont waste my time talking about him. We have a good young CB group and growing pains are expected. We do need more depth at CB but I do like who we have, aside from Lito Sheppard. After watching Chimdi play before he was injured, I was set on him being the Def. ROY. Going back to those who are here to help the team, how about Matt Giordano? Who was this guy before this year? Anyone ever heard of him? Sure he had some lackluster games, but his heart was on his shoulder in every game. He played a little too aggressive which caused big gains for the opponent, but the ball seemed to find this guy. There were a few games where he made a key INT. These are the guys I want to see on this team. He could do a lot better, but he can also be groomed into a better decision maker.
In reality, this team does not NEED a whole lot to be better next year. We need these guys to get their heads in the game first and foremost. These stupid penalties are playing with their heads. Hopefully our people can make some more great late draft day picks.
Check their attitudes at the door because this team is too cocky for what they DO NOT accomplish. Where is the player(s) that fire this team up? I’d sell my soul to be on that sideline for a game. They would have to strap my ass to a chair to prevent me from running up and down the field the whole game, unfortunately, I am not as passionate about anything as I am about my Oakland Raiders.

I almost forgot about Bush....
Ok, shoot me if you will….I WAS one of his biggest supporters. Bush is expendable people….I am very grateful for everything he has done for us but he is not a solid option. He wants to run the ball and thats it. There is no blocking in this guys mind for a RB. Marcel Reece can replace Bush. He can run with the ball, he can catch out of the backfield and yes he knows how to block. I’d love for him to come back as a #2, but I have a feeling he wants to be a #1. Well, over the last few weeks, he has shown he is probably not a solid #1 option. He will not get the #1 money we all thought he could get after the first games. If for no other reason, this could be why he will stay in Oakland.
Bush is way to valuable to loose!!!!!
He’s not a #1 in today’s league its always gonna take more than 1 back to get through a season now. With McFadden missing a minimum of 4 games a season. He has never played a full season.

I think when you throw for 400 yards
The loss isn’t your fault. I think Palmer is going to be the future of the Raiders and finally be in a position where he doesn’t have to win games by himself. All we need is a defense on the other side and despite the horrid play yesterday I feel they are a couple pieces away from being a fearsome defense.
I had to tell a guy in the stands to Shut the fuck up when he started chanting “Palmer sucks” after that pick in the 4th quarter.
You can’t blame the QB when your defense didn’t get a single stop all day.

I understand. We kept telling ourselves the same thing. Then we found a QB in the draft
who actually leads his guys on the field. Palmer, IMO, is kind of a fooler. He isn’t what he appeared to be – at least he wasn’t here. I don’t hate the guy like many Bengals fans – I just lost a lot of respect for him. For your sake I hope he can find a way to grow a pair.

Palmer did played extremely well for us...
His TD to INT ratio is slightly skewed considering most of his int’s came in the first couple games he played for us this year. The guy racked up over 2700 yds in 9 games. Alex smith only passed for 3100 yds and 17 tds all season long and they went 13-3 and are ranked second in the whole conference ahead of the saints, falcons, and lions. That only shows me how much a strong def can change a whole team around.

The funny thing
Even counting the 3 picks getting tossed into the fire against kc:
Passer rating for the entire season: palmer – 80.5. Palmer the last 2 years (when all these bengal fans hated him, knew he had lost it, blah blah blah) 82.4 ; 83.6.
The FABULOUS andy dalton this year – 80.4.
ypa – carson palmer, 8.4. Andy dalton 6.6.
With no training camp. Different receivers every week. A beat up and decreasingly effective running game. Consistently crap field position due to garbage defense.
Give andy dalton this raider defense to work with and he goes 4-12.
Ill take carson every day and twice on sundays.

plus palmers last few years in cincy was a total mess
he had to deal with mouthy, me first receivers, whom would bitch, moan and cry if they didnt get the ball thrown their way at least 20 times a game. palmer cleary forced throws their direction to hopefully shut them up and it resulted in more picks. palmer clearly made it obvious he quit giving a shit over there and his game the last few seasons showed. plus the deaths that went on their and his injuries all kinda pilled up. carson is gonna be just fine.
Not every Bengal fan is as mentally challenged as JUNGLEJOHN appears to be.
There is no need to rip on the Bengals as a team.
The Bengals were better on offense this year mainly because they got rid of Bob Bratkowski. It is difficult putting moving the ball when every series goes: run , run pass. It’s probably safe to say that if Carson had played with the Bengals this year he would have put up much better numbers than Dalton did. Dalton is not a particularly accurate passer and still needs a lot of improvement. He was fortunate that Green turned out to be stud.

MrBungle, you aren't a Bengals fan. Admit it.
If you are, you are not a very big one as I have I never seen a post from you over at the CJ board.

You are correct. I don't post at CJ too often.
Nice to see your astute powers of observation at work. I didn’t realize that posting at CJ was required of all Bengal fans.
I can only assume that your infantile need to troll CP stems from some deep rooted psychological problem. Perhaps you were abandoned as a child or maybe CP didn’t sign an autograph for you.
Trolling is funny if done properly but sadly you are neither funny nor creative. I think you might want to see a specialist about your admitted CP hatred. Yeah I agree about their defense,
I only bring them up because of all these people on here hating on Palmer. Im sure if you asked anyone on here if they would trade palmer for alex smith they would all laugh at you then proceed to pummel you for bringing up such a stupid proposition. Ask that same person if they would trade our defense for the 49ers and they would be offering up their firstborn child to get the deal done. If you look at it like that I would say that our def was the problem not Carson Palmer.
New DC
Alot of the arguments I see are very well founded, but you have to return to the DC and his plan. Do you think if Uncle Al was alive we would look quite like this on defense, who knows but Breshnehan had his shot with the oldman gone and it didnt work. Time for a new DC and please GET RID OF STANDFORD ROUTE!

Really get rid of routt r u crazy ???
This guy Is a legit #1 corner in this league maybe a paycut but hell no do we get rid of him his only problems are penalties and half of them were bull shit calls

Yeah I was down until that
Routt once again was 2nd in the league in completion percentage, and he was thrown at more then Revis.
Routt has alot of flags because he is an Oakland Corner. Nnamdi used to get phantom calls all the time. If we got rid of Routt, you would just move on to whoever our number 1 was because he’d start drawing massive flags.
The secondary’s coverage wasn’t the reason we lost to SD. Our biggest strength is supposed to be our D-Line and they didn’t show up. I don’t care how good your secondary is, if you let Phyllis Rivers dance back there for 5 seconds he’ll find an open guy.

The time has come to replace this sceme and the DC that runs it.
Ive had many arguments about the single high safety man up defense and Chuckles the Lame and many more of you have agreed with me than disagreed, but to those who have defended Chuckles and this dinosaur of a scheme… I think they (Chuckles and the team ) have proven me right. On the day we needed it most…we did not force a single punt yesterday and our only stop was an interception on the two after this joke of a defense allowed them to march all over us. Lechler pins them on the 1/2 yardline and Chuckles and Co. allow a 99 1/2 yard drive for a touchdown…PATHETIC!
This defense IS the reason that we are not in the playoffs right now and has been a problem all year.
We need a new GM to select a new DC (I’d prefer Nolan or Spaguolo) and that DC needs to see who we have that fits his system and jettison the rest.
This defense needs a complete rebuild as far as scheme goes and those players that are a hindrance because of lack of talent or contract overpayment to need to be sent packing if they don’t fit in and restructure or get out if it’s their contract that ’s holding back the team… Stanford Routt, Wimbley, McClain and Seymour this means you!
The offense is fine, I’d add maybe a guard to take Carlisle’s place and a real backup QB if Campbell finds another place to start..Boller has got to go! and Pryor probably needs more time to develop.
As painful as that loss was yesterday…If it means the demise of Chuckles the Lame, Weak, Fat, Panda Clown and a complete change on defense, then I’ll take my medicine of yesterdays loss and look forward to a day when we have a defense to be proud of instead of that embarrassment and joke we ran out there this year.

Looking at the home and away schedule (now available)
If the Raiders win 3-4 away games they should have a strong season. There home schedule is this:
Denver
KC
SD
Jax
Tampa Bay
Cleveland
New Orleans
Pittsburgh
That is about as favorable as possible. Getting New Orleans in Oakland is huge. Pittsburgh will be a team the Raiders can beat. The three weakest opponents at home and the division.
On the road, where the Raiders were solid this year we have this:
Denver
KC
SD
Cincinnati
Carolina
Miami
Atlanta
Baltimore
Obviously, tougher. But the Raiders can get 3-4 of those.
Bottom line, though, with the team we have now: Win in the division (4-2) and you’ll likely win the division. Would have been true this year.
0% chance the Raiders beat the Saints
Did you watch Drew Brees pick apart defenses this year? Imagine if he got to play against us? Try 600 yards and 6 TDs.
It's just another story on the road for the Saints
Did you watch them this season? I agree he’s fantastic. But it’s not a game you should write off in Oakland. In New Orleans, yes, but not with the Saints on the road.
Both of those teams
defend the pass better than we do. Even with all the blowout losses, the Bucs still finished better than us in pass defense. The Rams were 7th in the league in that category.
I also don’t see how we win on the road in Atl or Balt. Neither of those teams lose at home.
YEA I watched Chris Long for the Rams
Kid was eating the QB don’t remember who it was.He does not take plays off

One more thing
It’s just a whole new reality for the Raiders at this point.
We’re all going to have to get used to that.
Let’s face it, Mr. Davis (RIP) limited our options in terms of coaching and scheme. That’s gone now. We can become a different defense. And on offense, we’re already solid—especially if DMC can stay healthy. But as we’ve seen, even without a healthy DMC, we can still move the ball and score points.
even though the bengals hold our 1st round pick
i still want them to beat the texans. detroit is gonna get crushed by NO. thats my super bowl pick. it will be the ravens or NE vs NO. make charger fans more miserable with brees having 2 rings. as for the raiders defense….it might be different but i dont think it will be a whole new animal. id still say it will be the weak link unless a GOOD dcoord is hired or a big change happens. i believe its the stupidity of the players as well as chucks. hopefully i be wrong mon.

With all the injuries we’ve had, if he possessed any value or ability that would not have been the case. I see him more likely being cut next year.

I agree that he probably has some upside
I just see that the coaches agree. There’s probably a few places he could have helped in terms of special teams as an athletic guard/tackle (or even a field goal defender in the middle), but it doesn’t seem the coaches thought enough of him to put him in any of those positions and left him inactive. I know Al desired him to play more, but how do you explain his placement on the weekly inactive list?

Face it, this guy is a bust. He’s been given plenty of time to develop into anything (LT, RT, LG or RG) and he has not. He is a physical specimen that’s all, but by those attributes Schwarzenegger could be a football player too.

same amount of time as the other "bust" dhb.
DHB has shed his label in the 3rd year. Many were calling for him to be cut. 3rd year he goes out and almost gets 1000yds. why not give a 4th round pick who hasnt even been on the field a try? it will be his 3rd year. keep an eye on him through training camp and pre season. sure campbell is an olineman but the right side of the line could use more talent and youth. and yes i am glad he wasnt a first round pick.

There is a reason he hasn't seen the field
and I doubt it’s because the coaches are out to get him.
More likely is that he just isn’t very good. He has been passed over by many no name free agents since he’s been here.
The coaches want to win and if Bruce Campbell gave them the best chance then he’d be playing, but not only is he not playing he’s not even dressed for the game. That should tell you all need to know.

Only one issue remains now…Hue makes his hand felt and we don’t have this CRAP again!!!
Jackson said he has been aware of the issues holding back the Raiders for some time. Now that the season is over, it’s time for him to let it out and talk about what needs to be done going forward.
For one, Jackson said, he intends to take on an even heavier hand in how the team is run. He is hell-bent upon making sure he doesn’t feel again the way he feels right now.
"I’m going take a stronger hand in this whole team, this whole organization," Jackson said. "There ain’t no way that I’m going to feel like I feel today a year from now, I promise you that. There’s no question.
"Defensively, offensively and special teams. I aint feeling like this no more. This is a joke. "Palmer isn’t a difference maker: The Raiders traded two premium picks (including their first-round pick in April) to Cincinnati for Carson Palmer.Palmer did throw for 417 yards, but he wasn’t the difference. Now, the Raiders have to move forward with the 32-year-old and hope he doesn’t continue to decline as he had for the past three years. The Raiders went all in for 2011 with the Palmer trade and all they got was a second straight 8-8 season and no playoff berth. " i respect bill williamson’s opinion. he may be right….

I don't care if you respect some national writer who spouts conventional BS
Look, if the Raider defense did shit yesterday, here’s what this jackass, Bill Williamson, would be writing:
“Palmer was the difference for the Raiders. He threw for 417 yards and led the Raiders to a victory they could never have had without him. Oakland went all in with Palmer, and because of that gutty move they’ll be hosting a playoff game for the first time in in a decade.”
Okay, do we get it now? That’s exactly what the dude would be writing if we had played any defense yesterday or against Detroit.
As for the future that this tool writes about: We have a quarterback that just threw for 400 yards, that threw three beautiful long balls in the last two weeks, that has our receivers putting up numbers that they weren’t putting up before, and that was doing this by the end with a running game that was three yards a carry and nothing more.
Case closed.
throwing for that many yards doesnt always tell the whole story.
yeah palmer should be judged in 2012 since it will be a full year with training camp but palmer was nothing special for 2011. he can throw for a lot of yds. he was more like a philip rivers in 2011. except he isnt as good. bill williamson is not a raider hater anyway. anyone with a brain knows the defense is the weakest link. he acknowledged that as well. palmer will be 32, is he really gonna do something specail when the nfl has seen most of him already? i like palmer, not love, but imma give him 2012 to actually judge him. remeber he was worth two high draft picks with a hefty contract i believe

that doesnt necessarily mean i dont believe in palmer. this team at first only needed a qb that can throw and not cost us games. well we got one and the outcome still is the same, but now its the defense. this team can win with palmer but im not so sure hes “special”. he cannot carry this team on his back thats for sure. rivers can

Let palmer play against our defense that can't stop the run or pass and gets no pressure
He might throw for 600 yards.

simple
8-8. same record the raiders have with carson at qb. most qbs can tear the raiders d up. carson is 32. i dont expect the pro bowl carson at all. carson almost had as many ints as rivers. i dont like rivers at all though. he has carried this chargers team along with LT.

palmer would be 7-2 as our starter
if our garage band of a defense would have decided to become fucking rock stars for only one quarter against denver and only one drive in the detroit and s.d. game. i mean you only have to stop one of these teams once and we let them go 98+ yards in two different games??? i mean fuck me chuck and company! the two ass kickings we got handed to us was right after Romac fucked around with the law and it damn sure messed with the chemistry we had coming off a 3 game win streak and heading to miami. carson did plenty to be a “difference” maker amongst others. lets talk about the real problem and thats the defense not palmer and the drafts we gave for him! piss on bill williamson
My rant from Section 104 yesterday
No answers yesterday on defense. S.D. didn’t even have to punt yesterday, the only stops came on their first drive on an INT and another on a missed field goal…that was it. For much of the day, they just made blocking and playing catch look so easy. Our players did not respond. I’ve said it before, but for all the playmakers who are taking up all our cap room on defense, none of those guys made any plays with the game and season on the line. Seymour, Kelly, Wimbley, McClain, Routt, Huff??? (I acknowledge Huff was limited yesterday) Where the hell were they when it all mattered yesterday?
I thought the offense played well enough to win, and I like the potential of this group. They did seem to play with a lot of pride for much of the game and seemed to respond well for the most part to the shootout the game was turning into by continuing to move the ball. I think with an offseason together they will be able to finish off more drives for td’s.
On the other hand, I’m not sure the defense isn’t due for a makeover, and that obviously starts with the DC Chuck himself. When you employ a UFL DC you get a UFL defense. If some of these guys can’t step up with the season on the line a hopefully good GM will begin the process of re-evaluating the talent on that side and make some moves. It’s going to be tough without most of our draft picks, but I think there will be ways for a creative football man to make some moves or at least find a defensive coordinator who can maximize the talent we do have on defense, and get these guys to play and freaking win.

It will be fun, having to have heard all this crap
to watch Palmer and the Raiders go into Cinci and win next year.
it will be
but if the defense resembles the 2011 d and dmc is injured. then it will be another heartbreaking loss. cincy is no slouch on either side of the ball. they may not score a lot but with a year under their belts, dalton and aj green can be more dangerous.

Plus we will have 2 1st, a 2nd and 2 3rd round picks
This is the right year to be playing us in the playoffs. Plus Shipley will be back and Hall will be back. Shipley was the leading rookie receiver in 2010 in both receptions and yards. Hall is not quite PB material – but close. The Bengals should be very strong for the next 5-7 years.

best thing
that can happen is letting the Biggirls draft ahead of us. That way all the shitty choices will be gone and our new GM can use what we do have to get the great players the biggirls left on the board.

About all the field goals
A huge, unacknowledged reason this was field position.
Since we NEVER stopped the Chargers, we never had the ball with anything resembling a short field. The shortest was after the missed field goal, and that led to a touchdown.
Even the pick was on the five-yard line. We had one drive that started beyond the 25 yard line. We had two drives of over 65 yards that led to only field goals.
With any defense, we’d not just have held them to fewer points, we’d have scored more ourselves.
That's good point
Obviously Denarious Moore’s big play is a touchdown even 10 yards closer in terms of field position, instead of an eventual field goal. It’s tough to imaging the hole our offense kept having to overcome because our defense just kept getting beat. That’s a lot of pressure and we kept moving the ball, but just couldn’t overcome a defense that can’t stop a team on the half yard line down 5 points with the game on the line.

Yes, the players stunk
99 1/2 yards.
That will always be this season in a nutshell.
Any chance that Campbell doesn't get traded away? My brain says no, but...
…my heart wants to say “yes.”
During the time he’s been on the Raiders, I’ve always been a HUGE Jason Campbell fan. Yeah he made some mistakes, threw a bad pick every now and then, but he brought that team through some dark times, and I think he was one of the main people that the team rallied around. He’s a great person, and a really loyal guy. I was crushed when they signed Palmer to that 3-year deal – I thought it was a slap in the face to Jason Campbell, who had really meant so much to the team. I’m not saying he was Aaron Rodgers, but he was a Raider – he just FIT. Al was right, AGAIN. Campbell had won the hearts of his teammates, something it seems like Carson just hasn’t done.
A good article about by Campbell by someone who knows sports and knows him:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/jason-campbells-future-once-again-up-in-the-air/2011/10/18/gIQAFmWPvL_story.html
Honestly, I don’t see Hue admitting that he may have been wrong, and giving Campbell a chance to compete against Carson. And that makes me really, really sad.
CGB: Wasting Your Potential, Your Time, & Your Life Since 2006.
So basically, there's zero chance he comes back. Got it.
Well, I just hope he lands in a good place – I really like the guy.
CGB: Wasting Your Potential, Your Time, & Your Life Since 2006.
That depends
And I wouldn’t be suprised to see him move on up to Seattle.
But for some reason I think he’s gonna end up staying here.

Next year will be a season with no excuses
Just about every non-playoff team will be going into the offseason with the idea that we will simply be better with full offseason and less injuries, when in reality, the best teams will rise to the top when faced with similar challenges. A healthy Darren MacFadden may have made us a playoff team (in an abysmal AFC west), but there is no way we were a contender with that defense, but get smoked next week against Pittsburg.
No more excuses from our rookie head coach. Some of his decision making and game management were terrible. I hope he has some time to reflect on the decisions he made at crucial points in games and be better at risk/reward variables.
Al Davis passed on this past season, but next year that will not be a distraction, nor will coaches have anyone to blame for schemes and playcalling but themselves.
Penalties happen to poorly coached teams, there is no excuse here for the parade of penalties we had this year…yes as always there were a lot of bad calls, but to the point where ever week we dealt with so many stupid and unnecessary penalties, is just embarassing.

Looking forward to 2017
I hope it is still not too soon to talk about the real reason for the Raiders’ mediocrity; Al Davis. Although he was a good (and, sometimes, the best) owner/coach in the 60s/70s/80s/90s, he has been completely out of his depth for the past 10-ish years. Going even further, it could be argued that he been the worst owner in the history of the NFL (and perhaps all North American professional sports) over the past decade.
His mercurial/micro-managerial habits have created a dysfunctional front office and prevented the Raiders from hiring an NFL grade coaching staff since Gruden. Unfortunately, it will take more than a few years to fix the mess Al created. To be honest, I think the team will need to be sold before they can be contenders again. Although Mark Davis is probably very good at being a rich guy’s son, he has no business running an NFL franchise.
Unfortunately, Hue will probably be allowed to coach the Raiders into the ground in 2012. When we miss the playoffs again next year, there will be wholesale changes in the coaching staff (and, hopefully, in the team’s ownership). When this happens, than the necessary changes can take place.

It is true that without Al Davis there would be Raiders, but
Al’s insistence on running his ancient defense from the sixties was (and still is) hurting this team.
The scheme itself worked fine back in the sixties and seventies, but as the salaries started to rise and the salary cap was instituted it is just not a viable or sustainable defensive scheme to run anymore.
It relies too heavily on individual, one on one performances that require the best players at every position and in this day and age of high salaries, more injury and salary caps it’s just not possible or more correctly not affordable to run any longer
It is our weakness and was on full display for the whole world to see this year and the sooner we change it and the Jerk-off that ran it the better off the Raiders will be.

EXACTLY
This should be a testament to how the organization responds to this years dysfunctional unit.
Should be a real test for Hugh and our players. The Raiders need to bring in Jerry Rice and Tim brown and teach these new receivers how to catch the ball protect the ball and how to avoid injuries after the catch. Both those guys combined play like 500 games straight. This year we lost our whole receiving corps and a running back that adds a whole other dimension to the offense with a foot sprang. While McFadden is chillin on the sidelines other guys in the league are playing with broken bones ribs torn ligaments you name it. Either he seriously Jacked, Getting healthy for a trade or Hugh envisioned Al Davis in his sleep that he would save Mcslacking for the Superbowl lol. I think Hugh is a little delusional. Players need to play now hurt so you can make the post season not rest them for the post season because they are out LOL. I really think Hugh believed they would get that far and McFadden would return.
these are some strong running teams
we need to fix our run defense now.
next season will be too late.

Rememeber when Gruden came in to coach the Raiders
When gruden came to the Raiders he did his way butted heads with Mr Davis and started the season 8-8 with Qbs like Jeff George and Harvey Williams as RB LOL
The first season he had he changed the whole philosophy and made the raiders a west coast team. One problem with Al is he wanted veterans that can win now because he was old and new his time was near. The raiders had a good GM at the time in Bruce Allen.
When Al couldn’t stand Gruden and his ways he traded him to Tampa because of Al’s damn Ego it burnt his ass and the Raiders were toasted by Gruden in the Big Game
Al should of never let Gruden go he was great for the team and fans and I hope Hugh Jackson can get some of house cleaning underway since Al is gone.
You guys know so much goes on behind closed doors that we don’t ever know the ral story until judgment day. I believe Hugh worked with chuck in Cincinnati as well so it my be a case of setting friendship aside and handle business.
One last note. This raiders team is very odd. when gruden was there he had established the west coast offense which AL Davis hated. But it worked for the raiders. Even though it does get boring watching the quick slants they could still go with the deep balls plays if they wished too. The play calling to me just appears so random I don’t know what the raiders truly are. I would like them to go back to using the west coast with there fast receivers and Carson drilling them in.
If the Raiders or don’t handle this mess of 2011 the fans will dissolve once again. The fans deserve better and when you see a D coordinator who stunk the season up getting fired it just feels good and then the suspense of who will be the replacement. I hated when Al used no name cheap guys to get the job done. Shows he was not committed at all because those coaches demand big salaries which Al did not want to pay out. Maybe Mark will. Maybe Mark might be the best owner the Raiders ever had even though it is hard to top the legacy of Al but the Al Davis if the last 30 years IMO was a joke.
HE SHOULD OF NEVER MOVED THE TEAM TO LOS ANGELES PERIOD.
Los Angeles had the Rams and maybe the Rams would still be there if L.A. only had the one team. But the Raiders should never move again unless it is too a new stadium in Oakland. I heard Al was going to move to Baltimore before the browns did he had a crazy offer to become the Baltimore Raiders. That doe not sound even remotely right but al most happened instead of going back to Oakland.
The raiders will move back to LA
And get a fresh start. They shuffle players but can’t shake the penalties. Move to la and let’s build that bully. Just win baby

the west coast offense has blossomed into the spread.
tom brady, peyton manning, drew brees, aaron rodgers all have taken the west coast offense to a hybrid nfl spread offense.
I see more teams passing this way than I see running the ball.
To go deep in the playoffs, you will need to do both.a good 3-4 defense will keep you in games.
but is not enough will all of these pass happy teams out there. look for this trend to continue.
How many good strong RB’s are coming out of college? not as many. but there are many QB’s and WR’s coming out. More scat backs as well which fit the spread. FB’s are a dying breed. TE’s are more valuable if they can stretch the field and block.
The Raiders still could move back to LA. only time will tell.

Defense is the problem
we have had the penalty record many times and been a playoff team.
The Raiders have always been known as a team that commits a lot of penalties (because we do) and have been good enough to overcome it.
If we’d had just a mediocre defense this year it would have been the same story.
Discipline would be nice, but I wouldn’t expect it right away. It’s gonna take awhile to get rid of that “cheating is encouraged” thing that the Raiders “just win baby” philosophy has always included. The Refs know it and are looking to throw flags against us, so until that day happens we need to play well enough to overcome the other team and the yellow flags that will fly.

I agree, we get flagged and will continue to get flagged..
..for aggressive penalties, ie..PI, PF, etc…
What our problem has been is the dumb penalties. offsides, false starts, illegal formation, etc…
How many big plays have been called back on a meaningless illegal block or hold?
How many first downs and big plays have we given up on encroachments, defensive holds, etc..?
TOO MANY is the correct answer.
Hue has got to change that by making these guys accountable for their actions.
I also agree we need to overcome bad calls and be smart about it.
Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth.

Yes, if we could just cut down
the false starts and the off sides/ lined up in the neutral zone penalties it would go a long way to helping out the team.

You are a good man, J-Man
I’m afraid no words can salve the pain we’re feeling over this one. It’s so much more unsettling when you know you had so many opportunities and it came down to your players not wanting it badly enough. We had players capable enough, but for whatever reason, the defense never played like a unit, and squeaking into a potential win and in situation at the end of the year blinded us to how poorly our defense performed all year.
On the bright side, it calls for more extreme measures, which are in effect at this juncture for this team, and I’d look as hard at some personnel as I would coaches right now. Some guys gave up, and they know who they are, and their failure to come together when we needed them to most should be example enough to know with whom we should proceed and expect any better future.
Thanks for always demonstrating class, J.
