There have been no Raiders sans Al Davis since 1963 with the exception of the last 2/3rds of the 2011 campaign. Those of us who grew old ourselves along with Davis just sort of fell into this Al is Oakland, Oakland is Al mindset. The 'man' defense, the combine speed demons, the veteran who was shitcanned by everyone else yet salvaged by Al, the Heisman winner....almost any of us could pick the draft, guess what veteran or what was going on as if we had been members of the team...Oakland had become that familiar and boring and predictable. All that is gone now.
Those who blamed Al have to regroup. Those who supported Al have lost their cover. Its all different..all bets are off. The very silent yet hands on Mark Davis already let his new GM know that he was displeased with Hue Jackson's rant post defeat against SD...you dont call your team out that way, and attempt to avoid any accountability.Davis was displeased with Jackson's ill timed statements in which he desired more power (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/01/10/in-the-end-hues-own-words-did-him-in/). Not the way to impress your new boss, your team and US...the Nation. He just ran his suck muscles too much and wrote too many checks his ass couldnt cash.
So here we are....new GM. Just saw where Winston Moss may be the new HC under McKenzie. There will be a new DC who doesnt bend to the owners will and will have to be a functioning human being, unlike Bresnahan, who appeared to chew raw pineal gland pregame and have wild hallucinations as far as coverages go....no more LBs covering Megatron receivers. I almost thought I was spending an evening with Hunter S Thompson and high on ibogaine listening to the defense blow another 4th quarter lead....surrealistic shit if there ever was. Its all new now. The Raiders will take on a new persona and while they do that still uphold the old identity; the silver and black badasses we have always been.
That identity is up to us. The Nation. We keep the fires burning, the history intact, the games remembered and the legend of the Oakland/Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders alive. In the Black Hole, wearing the colors and keeping the attitude. I have been here since 1966 and I cant see going anywhere else. There is nowhere to go. We keep picking up fans from other teams....but we stand fast for the Raiders. Always.
The autumn wind is a Raider...looking forward to 2012...
