Sanjay Lal Signs 5 year deal with Jets

Here at S&B Pride it seems that the majority of us are split on Sanjay. I have heard Saint state that he has spoken with the man before and he is a good coach. Others seem to blame him for our receivers deficiencies, i.e. stone hands, horrible route running.

Well, according to Jets.com he is now working with Rex Ryan and Toy Sparano. The transformation is happening Raider Nation, Paul Gutierrez of CSN Comcast Sports, thinks Cliff Branch could be brought in as a replacement. This is going to be an exciting off season.

Excellent...

Hard to believe that a better coach won’t be brought in, as far as I’m concerned. It doesn’t have to be a former Raider; two that were brought in last year were summarily dismissed in the offseason, so that status is no guarantee of success.

Still, I’d love to see what results an established coach can bring to a WR corps that is heavy on talent, and light on overall production.

Soft Hands

Hey Doc!

I agree DHB will get even better, but you can’t teach soft hands. Remember Ricky Dudley?

by Mallard Davis on Jan 14, 2012 8:15 AM PST up reply actions

There are things that are genetically acquired while other things are acquired from the learning environment.

How fast people can run is mainly a genetic issue. I don’t think that soft hands requires a genetic predisposition. Soft hands can be environmentally taught but is dependent on the intellectual capacity of the person. For example, proprioceptive intelligence (a good sense of balance and acrobatics) can be built as evidenced in the teaching of gymnastics. Football players can acquire proprioceptive intelligence as they learn mid-air body balance in adjusting to a pass thrown at them to catch the ball. The adjustment of the hands to make them softer can be taught threw training, but as you can see, there are many factors that need to be taken into account, such as proprioceptive intelligence. I guess you can say that some people have more of an affinity or intelligence than others to acquire such hands than others, but those others just take longer longer to learn as in the case of DHB and Cliff Branch.

You sure talk a lot of hooey!

Its easier to say when Branch was a rookie he had waffle irons for hands…
His descendent isnt DHB, its Moore.
Moore is the Branch we have been looking for.

Hooey? Moore has always had hands whereas Branch did not so how do you figure?

Hooey is how it is that you make Moore Branch’s descendant, I mean, you can choose your own politics on that one, but hardly justifies hooey on my part.

Pooh pooh...you finally answer a reply I make...

You have made the argument in the past…yes, we do have memories here, about Branch having two bricks yet developing great soft hands, andyou have used that in describing DHBs development…comparing him to a young Branch….I say no matter what DHB does, he isnt Branch’s heir apparent…as you have stated in the past. He reminds me of Willie Gault more….sometimes a great catch, sometimes breaks away…falls down after catch a lot.
Moore is Branch….his style, his speed, his protection of the ball.
Sorry…many of us arent on your couch. Sorry. Dont talk like we are…My doctorateis in education and plain talk…

Sorry if you feel I have ignored your responses. I must admit I am a little cautious in responding...

but have you ever figured that might be your doing? I am not trying to bag on you but you often come off with some uncalled for snarky comments to me and to others on this blog leaving me with an impression that such is your style and I would rather not get into those kinds of arguments. That is a little too bad because I think you are a good critical thinker and perhaps we could have had some deeply thought-evoking and productive arguments that I am sure others would have found entertaining. Nevertheless, I thought I have responded to your comments in the past but maybe I needed to be a little more conscientious about it, it’s just that you did make it a little difficult. Since you have poo poed me, those are words that are a bit challenging, and I will conceptualize the challenge in positive terms as your manner of letting me know that you have intentions of blogging with me, and I look forward to that.

As regards Branch and DHB, perhaps I might add clarification. In my perception, I believe that many have bashed on DHB far too harshly and this reminded me of how I felt of Branch when he was developing and I was proven wrong in doing so. My argument has been that people need to be patient with DHB just because he needs longer time to develop amid his wonderful work ethic and dedication, which justifies the patience. Sure enough, as Big Al had in mind, those promises are starting to bear genuine fruit. That is how I compared Branch to DHB although their molds are quite different, but I never thought in terms of DHB replacing Branch as the heir apparent, which is why you brought Moore into the picture, but now the argument is your development, which I really have nothing to do with. Now that I have had some time to ponder upon the Branch-Moore comparison, I will give you props on the comparison because I am so impressed with Moore.

Anyway, I hope that clears the air, and I look forward to future blogging with you. By the way, I didn’t know you have a “doctorate.” Is this a doctorate in blogging or an actual one from a credentialled institution. If the latter, congratulations on the honor, and if the former, I look forward to further “doctoral blogging” from you.

Signed, Raider Psychologist.

Hooray! It is confirmed that Sanjay is no longer listed as a Raiders Coach.

Say what you will, but disciplined routes are key. Palmer was hamstrung by the sloppy standard that must be at least partially attributed to the former WRs coach. How many times did Murphy, Bey and Ford take extra steps or zig in rather than out and how many of those interceptions might have been avoided had they simply ran the play as it was designed? Some estimates approach 50% … I’d put it at 33.34%.

I have never seen someone jump ship like you

You always said JC holds on to the ball too long and if he threw an int you had no mercy. Now Carson comes to Oakland Throws a ton of pick and holds on the ball longer than JC. I don’t hear a peep from you. It’s like you have become blind for the Deep. Sons we don’t run a timing offense so taking an extra step or two has little to do with his Picks. 85% of his picks were because he tried to fit balls in double coverage.

I’m more concerned about keeping Saunders, Waufle and a few other coaches.

by Mallard Davis on Jan 14, 2012 9:43 AM PST up reply actions

Chances really are that all those guys will be gone

and we’ll have an entirely new staff as hired by whoever our new head coach will be.
It is possible that the new head coach might retain Saunders and Waufle depending on the schemes the new HC wants to run.
It is also possible and likely that they’ll head out of town just like Sanjay did while there are coaching jobs available.

Our process might take a while and it is unlikely that they’ll be retained, so we can’t blame them for seeking employment elsewhere.

Well the fact is that with the new coach coming in nobody is assured of a job so you cant blame anyone for jumping ship now if they have an opporrtunity

Does anyone hope the NYG win today?

As with the entire Raider Nation, I too am eager to start the rebuilding process. I love reading everyone’s wish list and agree with most. Gruden is a possibility, however very unlikely. But if GB is beat today, then all of our questions may be answered tomorrow. So GO GIANTS!!!

by infinateraiderfan on Jan 15, 2012 5:16 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

The teams I want to win are the teams that have won the most.

I was actually glad that the Donks beat the Steelers because they have won enough and don’t need to win anymore. Next on the crap list is the 9ers since they have 5 SBs already and I was rooting for the Saints. GB has won enough so I root for the Giants. NE has won 3 SBs so I actually would not have minded too much if the Donks would have beat them, but since they won, I’m so glad it was a stomping and a further exposure of Tebonehead. Between the Ravens and Texans, I hope the Texans win since the Ravens already have a ring. As it is, I hope the Texans win the SB but I know they won’t go that far. Between the Ravens and Giants, who cares, I just want to see a good game.

I think way to much is put on position coaches

Every last Raider is a professional football player. Once a coach has laid out the scene, it is up to the player to execute. How can anyone not learn from Rod Woodson? He prepared the DB’s on what to look for and how to play the position. What is so hard about that? You are learning from one of the greatest. So you take his advise and apply it to your game. It wasn’t the specialty coaches, it was the DC. There is no other explanation for it.

by infinateraiderfan on Jan 15, 2012 6:26 AM PST via mobile reply actions

Even professional athletes need coaching

Very, very few athletes do not need some sort of input, and they are Hall of Fame-bound. How many times do you see players from any/every sport change teams, hook up with a good/great coach, and really break out? They will say that it is because of the coaching that they are now getting, rather than a new team. Coaching is still the bedrock of sports; with it, you can get by with less talent. Without it, as we have personally witnessed, physical talent is wasted.

Yes, there is responsibility to be bone by the DC, but how sloppy was individual play at the same time?

Again, an excellent example is just across the bay; how much difference did Harbaugh and his coaching staff make on the 49ers? How solid are they fundamentally? Were they that way last year? Did the entire team just wake up and decide to do things differently?

Positional coaches are very important, because at this level, it is all about technique and understanding the subtleties of the position and game.

Just because Woodson was a great player

does not mean he is automatically a great coach. Some guys can play successfully, some guys can coach successfully and a few can do both successfully. Is Woodson one of those few?
Judging from the performance of the DB’s…No

This was his first year ever as a coach and he probably would do somethings different, he was also handed a bag of injured shit and two rookies to coach so that has to play into it too.

It’s hard to say if Woodson will be a good coach unless he stays here or goes somewhere else and proves it. He’s only had one year at it.
This year was kind of a test run for Woodson anyhow…to see if he liked coaching at all…his own words by the way.

Maybe he goes back to being an annalist if this experience didn’t do it for him.

Sanjay & GB coaches

First Sanjay was an avg WR coach. DHB had a nice year but still had way too many easy drops as he still doesn’t catch with his hands. Ford, Moore, Murphy, Chaz were great/exceptional picks during draft day. They still have work to do. GB’s defence looked mediocre at best; if anything, the Giants were ball hungry and caused loads of turnovers. I would be inclined to research the Giants D coaches. Back to GB, nothing screamed W Moss is ready or that D Capers is a slam dunk. Keeping Saunders makes sense to me as the O prgressed and Palmer will be our QB next year. The SD was one of his finest; he looked right. I still find Bowles interesting at HC if we’re looking to go young. I would be ok with Moss as DC.

Fewell is their DC

but Spanuolo was their DC on their 07 Super Bowl run, too and he did wonders for the Rams…

I think we need to go with a 3-4 DC and need to start the cap casualties immediately…

I'd love Spagnuolo or Nolan for our DC job

but just like every other team the Giants do not have to let Fewell go for a lateral DC job only to a higher job and I don’t necessarily want Fewell for our HC
