Mornhinweg: Interviewed in Oakland & left without offer
This was reported by Silver & Black Report:
Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg interviewed with the Oakland Raiders on Friday for their head coach vacancy.
The former Detroit Lions’ coach talked to Reggie McKenzie and traveled back to the east coast without an offer. Joe Philbin is off the market agreeing to become the new coach in Miami, but that will not preclude the Silver & Black from talking to others.
McKenzie will conduct a few more interviews before he settles on his first coach.
Mornhinweg was speculated in Indianapolis, but SBReport.net has learned that the Colts have not reached out to the Eagles for permission to talk to their coordinator.
In two years as Detroit’s head-man, Mornhinweg compiled a 5-27 record. One event that highlighted his tenure was an overtime contest against the Bears, in which he elected to kick then to receive. The Bears scored on their first possession in sudden death extra time and the coach was ravaged in the media and by the fans.
Since, he’s been an important staffer on the Eagles, even at one point replacing Andy Reid from his play calling duties.
Depending on what happens this weekend, coordinators/staffers Perry Fewell (Giants) and Ed Donatell (49ers) could get a look from McKenzie.
I like that Mr. McKenzie is diligently searching for our next head coach. I believe that we won't have a coaching staff assembled until after the Super Bowl

Good, I didnt like the west coast offense he would have brought
Palmer, Moore, DHB, Ford all work better in the vertical offense, which Pete Charmichael Jr (Saints OC) runs…I am rooting for him or Bowles, no Packers please, their D sucks!!!
I am glad Reggie is doing a thorough search...
But I am pulling my hair out in anticipation. I can’t take wait to see what our team will look like with a staff put together by a man with no other goals in mind than assembling a staff that has only one goal in mind. With all due respect to A.D., there was way to much my way or I’ll show you! Al always wanted to show his appreciation to past players and friends with coaching positions. And if anyone so much as differed from him he spent way to much energy in vindicating, which took focus off the end goal of winning. The last 8 yrs. was a perfect example of where loyalty is not always the best policy in the business of football. There needs to be some sort of delegation from an owner and his team so emotions will not make important decisions in team composition. Al was blinded by the past glory of the Raiders and was incapable of making decisions pertaining to coaches and dysfunctional players.
I can’t wait for the new era of the Raiders!! Besides the playoffs, I hate this time of year. Especially with next to zero draft picks!!!!!

Well
Either he’s taking all this time and he’s going to make a good decision with it.
Or he takes all this time and screws it up anyway.
Somehow I am thinking they might hose it up...

Unless
He’s not planning on competing this year anyway, in which case maybe he’ll just find a placeholder coach. That’s if he’s planning on full scale rebuilding. Course in that case he should have just promoted Saunders.
But even if he waits til after the Super Bowl, he still has a month and a half before free agency starts.
I think this will happen anyway
but I also believe Reggie is looking for his guy to lead the team through the rebuild.
"In football, I root for the Oakland Raiders because they hire castoffs, outlaws, malcontents, and f*** -ups, they have lots of penalties, fights, and paybacks, and because Al Davis told the rest of the pig NFL owners to go get f***ed. Someday, the Raiders will be strong again, and they will dip the ball in s*** and shove it down the throats of the wholesome, white, heartland teams that pray together and don't deliver late hits." - George Carlin.
Carmichael wouldn't be a bad pick at all.
I also wouldn’t mind Perry Fewell.

I don't get the love for Fewell
He did a mediocre job in Buffalo and inherited a great defense in NY so he should be an HC candidate? Sorry but I’d rather go with Bowles than Fewell.
You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.

One could say the same thing about
Mike Nolan, and Rex Ryan in Baltimore, too. And let’s be honest, has anyone done a better than mediocre job in Buffalo since Marv Levy and Bill Polian left town?

Good points
Fewell did a solid job for the Giants this year considering the injuries they had but I think I’d rather have Gilbride over Fewell from that staff.

In the mean time
….all the good coaches will be spoken for.
Apparently Winston Moss interviewed with McKenzie
and it didn’t go well.
According to Jason LaCanfora:
“The Oakland Raiders recently met with Packers assistant head coach/inside linebackers coach Winston Moss in Green Bay about their head-coaching vacancy, and multiple league sources said the session didn’t go particularly well.
Moss, considered one of the early favorites for the job, is the fourth person to have been interviewed by Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie.
At this point in their search, the Raiders have only interviewed one person in Oakland: Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.
Sources said McKenzie is expected to expand his search for Hue Jackson’s replacement this week. The Raiders also have interviewed Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and former Miami Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles, but those interviews happened outside Oakland.
Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy also is on the Raiders’ list of candidates, along with Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers and New Orleans Saints"
"Now I know what your thinking, did he fire six shots or only five. Ive forgotten myself in all this excitement, but being that this is the 44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and could blow your head clean off, you have to ask your question. Do I feel lucky? Well do ya punk!"
