"honey! where is my gun!?"

When Mark Davis hired Mckenzie I could not be more excited. We havent had a general manager in 10 years and Al Davis always picked athletes over players. I understand that John Madden and Ron Wolf sat in the meeting and advised Davis to pick Mckenzie, however there were not enough interviews conducted to say that this guy is going to be a great GM. First things first you fire Hue Jackson who in mind at least deserved a second season and.. IF you were going to fire him bring in a veteran coach or a MORE experienced coach!. Second you have this hour long conference that was boring as hell about you and "your guy" you have coming. At the time I was excited because I figured he had young , ambitious, knowledgeble ,CREDITED coach in mind who he has been eyeing for years instead he had nobody at the time! My third issue is the interviews! I mean what did he see wrong in the other coaches and what did he see right in DENNIS ALLEN. DENNIS ALLEN..smh an average defensive cordinator for the arch enemy the denver broncos!. We should have tried him as a cordinator first I wouldnt mind that but as a head coach we are done!.He is a rookie coach that is very, very, very ,young and I have a problem with young head coaches that do not know x's and o's and focus on discipline. The last coach that teached discipline and was young was Mike Shanahan who in my opinion is the most overatted head coach in history. MIke was terrible for the raiders in the late 80's and Allen will be terrible for Raiders right now. Goodbye to our season and superbowl run. Mark there was a reason why AL kicked you out of the war room..lol

"Good hire or bad hire" is not answered "yes" or "no."

first off.

Second- wah. You never heard of the guy, so he must not be any good. Go be a Patriot fan, then.

I’m on board, fair weather or foul.

how do you know

that he doesn’t know X’s and O’s and doesn’t command discipline? From interviews I heard from Sharper and other former players they all said he is a very smart man and commands respect even just as a position coach. They said you can tell he always knew what he was talking about. Go to 957thegame.com and to the audio selector and listen to the interviews with Daren Sharper, Patrick Kerney and Ray Buchanan. All of which have played under him.

So...

I guess you were fine with the ego that we saw of Hue Jackson at the end of the season?

See how mobody voted no (as of now)? You know why? Because rookie HC does not mean automatically lose. He does know Xs and O’s as he WAS the Broncos’ DC.

We just need somebody to MANAGE, something Hue Jackson COULD NOT DO.

So if you wanna leave, go ahead.

I am a Raider Fan. But I also a player's person as well.

You seriously need to give the guy a freaking chance, my god he hasnt even stepped foot in the door yet

There is absolutely no reason for such a temper tantrum about it. He took over a defense that was not all that talented and got them to give up over 50 yards less per game and gave up 5 points less per game than the previous year. If you apply that to us we are a playoff team. Reggie McKenzie would not hire somebody that he didnt believe in and many of his ex players speaking positive about him are veterans including Champ Bailey and Darren Sharper who are hall of famers when ever they decide to officially retire. He deserves a hell of a lot more of a chance than you are willing to give him. You must just prefer to be an angry, bitter fan.

"We want to win. The Raider fans deserve it. The Raider players deserve it, even my organization deserves it. You have to win and you have to win with a vision for the Super Bowl. That's our passion here."--Al Davis

Understand your concern

But give him a chance. We knew all along they weren’t going to hire a big name coach once we saw Reggie’s list. He’s a noob, and he’s gonna make noob mistakes, but he’ll have advantages Hue didn’t like picking his own staff, more than 1 season to prove himself, and a GM looking over his shoulder who’s fate rests partially in Allen’s hands. Assume that Reggie MUST make a good decision here, otherwise he’ll have gotten off to a really bad start as GM. Reggie has a lot riding on this.

I say give the guy...

a chance. He was the coach of the main reason why the Broncos were able to turn the season around this year. The Broncos D kept in games this year, which lead to the whole overblown Tebow thing. Hopefully he can nip that penalty thing in the bud.

There was no mama smurf. Papa smurf is a expert in the field of genetics. He has an advanced cloning lab to rival even those weird folks on Kamino. He can’t build you a clone army (lacking the Jango Fett DNA), but he can make a whole lot of smurfs. Enough to bring order to the galaxy.

Honey get my gun?

What does that really entail? Could you be more specific like are you going on a killing spree because the Raiders hired a very green DC to be their HC or because you are going to off your self? I’m confused.

Damn man

I’m not a huge fan of the hire either, but shit it was kind of expected by now right? Another rookie head coach that is. I feel your concerns, and if shit turns south everyone on this board will address it. I say, since we have no real choice in the matter, see what the “boy” can do. Winning cures everything. Spud McKenzie knows this and has made what he considers the best possible to choice to not only win but save his job too. Now sack up man, get yo shit together, relax, and support your damn team!!!!! Win, lose (which I’m thinking may happen as of now), or tie, Raiders till the end. Don’t make this blog pull your man AND Raider card. Buck up.

Honestly

I think all of the fans complaining now would have complained no matter who we chose as coach. I trust Reggie, this isn’t his first rodeo. Are we going to win the Super Bowl the first year? Probably not, but nobody else out there is going to take us to the promise land out of the gate either. There’s a LOT that needs to happen still. We’ve dealt with 10 years of absolute SHIT on the field, that isn’t going to change overnight. The way I see it, at least we’re finally going uphill. Everything I’ve read about Dennis Allen is everything this team has lacked for a long time. A coach focused on attack and DISCIPLINE. How can you complain over a coach who holds such a short leash on his players? Or do you want to be the most penalized team in the league again? My vote is a resounding hell yes, because a laid back leader like Hue who goes through the motions and calls plays like he’s got a Playstation controller in his hand on rookie level is the last thing our extremely undisciplined, young team needs IMO.

by Raider Since Schroeder on Jan 26, 2012 1:00 AM PST reply actions

I agree

I believe Reg is starting to send a message. Also the difference between his discipline and Shanahan’s will obviously be that management wants this and will back him. Mr Davis traditionally backed the players. I honestly think its going to take a year but cutting the dead branches and allowing new and positive growth is what is required here. A quick trip to the Superbowl and then ten more years of suckage is not what I want to see. I want this rebuild to be a dynasty, to be one of the top tier teams. A perrenial play off contender and a respected or feared opponent on anyone’s schedule. We will see if its good long term. Now lets see what kind of staff he builds.

by Canadian Raider on Jan 26, 2012 3:22 AM PST up reply actions

I have no doubt that Allen is more than just the stats the Donks put up

He can only do so much with the talent that was on the team last year and considering they were they worst defense in the league last year and he brought them back to respectability amidst a plethora of injuries…I consider that success. If you look at the jobs he’s had and the turn around that the team had once he came aboard it paints a picture of a coach on the rise. McKenzie may have brought him in a bit prematurely but had he waited a year, then there would be many teams looking at him. Instead, we got a jump on the entire league and picked up the next rising star just like Al did when he brought in Madden.

The coaching candidates out there were slim pickings this off season unless you wanted a Del Rio, Capers, or Mornhewig. They may have experience but some guys are just better coordinators than HC and some coordinators are better HCs (see McCarthy, Mike).

At the end of the day, I trust Reggie’s ability to judge talent and evaluate football minds. Let’s give this guy the benefit of the doubt and get excited about what he can bring to this team…DISCIPLINE.

Hop over the Denver blog and see what they think about losing him

It made me feel much better about the hire. He has impressed a lot f people around the league. Made me think of when we hired Gruden, but with some serious defensive chops to boot. I like the hire.

It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide

by SavageBeast on Jan 26, 2012 9:28 AM PST reply actions

I say give the guy a chance

And not just a one season chance, either. I wanted to give Hue another season to prove himself, but that didn’t happen. Allen is out coach now, and he’s got my support for at least a couple of seasons.

Quite the over reaction. You have the guy buried before he even sets foot in the coliseum.

Very intersting...as usual we are an optimistic bunch and very accepting of change

I hope this time we are not forced to sour quickly on Allen. Without Al (RIP) I think the leash will be a bit longer for Allen which is probably a good thing. we can’t keep firing coaches that take us to an 8-8 record. That record may not be acceptable as it is typically not enough to get into the playoffs but as long as we see progress and effort every week then we can have hope.

not bad to hope

Gruden came in as a rookie HC, a fiery competitor and a doubted rookie. Same is going on with Allen. Gannon was old and ‘’washed up’’ I know Gruden was an offensive guy and all but I think we havent seen Palmer play his best yet because he hasnt had an offseason. It’d be amazing to see Palmer shut up the doubters calling him washed up, even inside the fanbase. Just like Gannon did, same with Allen.

I'm glad we are trying something different. Nothing has worked so far!

He seems like a hard worker.I can’t wait to see what happens. I ; Like the rest of Raider Nation , Hope eventually we get it right . We have the talent and are only missing a few pieces. GM and a Coach that command respect and teach discipline and motivation are the first good moves we have made in a while. I can’t wait to watch this play out. Go Raiders !

I hate this people, we are supposed to be one of (if not the most) loyal fanbase in football, or any pro sport. This is the Raiders man, loyalty comes first. Let them hop on other bandwagones, by the start of next season we will see who is still here and throghout the rest of the season we will see who comes back. Win, lose or tie, Im a Raider ’til I die.

I don't even know why I'm responding

You must be one of those “Chucky or Bust” assholes. The Raiders hire a highly respected football executive of one of the better and more successful franchise in the NFL today, but they didn’t interview enough people. Then they hire a highly regarded young coach, who every team had on their radar to be a HC candidate within the next 5 years after interviewing multiple candidates, and the GM interviewed too many candidates? What is the standard you’re using?

Ask yourself had anyone heard of Jon Gruden, Mike McCarthy, Mike Tomlin, or any number of coaches that have been successful when they became head coaches? The MO in Green Bay has been to hire OCs who were successful, but had no prior head coaching experience. This is a departure, per se, but clearly we need to be better on defense, so you bring a bright, you DC, and does it really matter where he coached last season?

In 1963 a foundering AFL franchise in Oakland too a flier on this young, brash, but very highly recommended offensive assistant from the San Diego Chargers, too. His name was Al Davis.

we never retreat we always ATTACK!!!
