Darren McFadden on the Block?
Recently there have been a lot of talk of Darren McFadden going on the trading block. I'm not sure if this is just a bunch of talk or if their is actual merit to the story. After the jump is a few points of view on the situation.
I really don't think we will trade McFadden. Personally i think that Oakland Raider fans are the only people that hold him in high value (and rightfully so). His injury history would probably over shadow his production while healthy the last 2 years. I think that we could realistically expect nothing more than a second round pick and some change in return. I really can't think of a team that needs a RB enough to offer up a first round pick. At the same time it is almost impossible to predict trade scenarios for other player.
if we do we do decide to trade McFadden there is either one of three things that is going to happen. one being we will have to target a change of pace back in free agency. Two is that we will plan to use one of our few draft picks on one (which seems to be a bit of a waste). Three being that they really believe in Taiwan Jones. I think Jones is a dynamic player but he is obviously no Darren McFadden. While i'm not exactly sure who will be in the late rounds of the drafts or in free agency, it seems that it would be a downgrade no matter how we looked at it.
If we get rid of McFadden we have to assume we are keeping bush. I'm a huge fan of Bush (i was actually mad when we drafted McFadden cause i thought we had our guy in bush) i'm not sure that he can be our number 1 guy. he seemed to wear down late in the season and a lot of his runs that went for 15+ yards McFadden could have turned into 30+ yard runs or even touchdowns.
It all comes down to value, personally i don't think that we can get enough for McFadden to justify trading him. Especially if we can get north of 12 games a year out of him, and as long as we have a #2 with bush's talents 12 games a year doesn't seem so bad to me. Share your opinions below i'm interested to see what everyone else thinks about this.

I actually think that we probably could get a 1st round pick for him from someone but I still want to keep him
I can tell you right away that I think the Packers would be interested in making that move for him, their running game was not impressive this year.

No first round pick...
no trade D-Mac.
End of story.

I do as well
Lot of young quarterbacks out there and they all need a threat at running back to take the pressure off the passing game. especially with TE’s getting more work this post-season. With team getting big production out of their TE"s,stands to reason that a threat in the running game makes it that much easier.
No doubt in my mind we get a first for DMC.

A Running Back, with Tender Feets, Bad News!!!!
And not to be stereotyping or sound like I am, but a black man, playing the RB position, with bad feet….REAL BAD NEWS !!! But he’s our bad news, an we can have him for 12 to 14 games. And you’re right !!! We won’t get a #1 for him, due to his tender feets…. Unless we deal with (hate even thinking this), the Patriots/Belicheat, who has a surplus of #1’s, every damn year, and since they’ve been using RB’S by committee, they could afford to give us a number 1 for him, and here’s the fear …. That he stay injury free for the rest of his damn career, and we’ll be known as the team who traded the next 2,000 plus yard back to the most hated team by the nation , since 01 !!!! I really can’t even stand the thought, let on alone the possibility !!!! One other team comes to mind, that also has this type of style would be Cincinnati, and get one of our #1’s back !!! It would be a crap shoot, and I just don’t like the possible outcome. We keep D-Mac, and just deal with the outcome !!!!

I read that Reggie has been talking to Terrance Ganaway, RB out of Baylor
I wouldn’t mind McFadden, Ganaway and Jones.
"Bad is Back, thanks be to the Antichrist" - George Atkinson
We won't get what we want for him
Another team would be crazy to trade a #1 for such an unreliable player. Cork speculates that he’ll be offered up, but nobody will be willing to pay our price. We’d be lucky to get a #2 for him, really. Thus he is probably staying put.
If we couldnt get a number one, i dont see us trading him.
But i do believe the Raiders may instead look to trade McFadden for another player that maybe can help us on the Defensive side of the ball.
I think our offense is pretty much set, our offensive line was a big upgrade from last year allowing the 3rd least sacks, maybe we could improve the O-line also at the RT and RG spots.
Keep him...
despite the injuries, the guy is stud at running back. Fred Taylor had a career plagued with injuries, but was still considered one of the top RBs in the NFL. He finished his career with nearly 12,000 yards rushing in 11 seasons. He’s one of 26 guys with over 10,000 yards in an NFL career. So let’s not be in a rush to trade a talent like McFadden, because if we do, he will bite us in the ass.
why do you think someone would be willing to give us a no.1??
If someone actually offers it, would you trade him?? NO!! Keep on pimping it though….I smell Charles Woodson 2.0 ….McFadden is a VERY, VERY, VERY RARE talent……
There's no way
we should trade him. He’s only got two years left on his rookie contract at around 5.5 mil each year. He’s going to play hard for his next contract. We would not get much in return because he’s injury prone. Plus when he is healthy he is a legitimate game changer. The back that takes his spot would be a drastic downgrade.
To me I think we need lots of 3rd and 4th round picks.
We have enough 1st rounders getting over payed. I do really like Zach Brown out of NC. Like Thomas Howard with better ball hawking skills with corner like speed.
First rounder.
Early 2nd max.
"In football, I root for the Oakland Raiders because they hire castoffs, outlaws, malcontents, and f*** -ups, they have lots of penalties, fights, and paybacks, and because Al Davis told the rest of the pig NFL owners to go get f***ed. Someday, the Raiders will be strong again, and they will dip the ball in s*** and shove it down the throats of the wholesome, white, heartland teams that pray together and don't deliver late hits." - George Carlin.
First rounders now a days
are not as expensive as they once were. So a first round pick is actually more valuable now because you take less of a financial risk these days.
Al had most of his luck with the later round picks and not so much with the first rounders, but that may not be the case any longer.
Our over paid players need to restructure for the betterment of the team of they can get the fuck out.
No more slackers allowed either.
We can’t afford them.

Trade DMC only...
If we could get to 2nd rd picks (One this yr & one next yr) & if we could sign Marshawn Lynch to be our number one. But I feel that McFadden is the best back in the NFL when he’s healthy & I would hate to face him too.
Instead of seeking a first rounder
I would rather get several lower picks. I’d prefer not to trade McFadden, but with so many weaknesses on the defense, I’ll take 2-3 lower picks (in the 2nd – 3rd round range) instead of a single first round pick.

No team would give a number one for DMC
if we really want picks, we’ll have to surrender him for a 3 at best with maybe a 7 tacked on. He’s a special talent that can’t stay on the field. No team is going to give up much for that. If Bush were under contract, we probably get better return value on him than DMC…
we never retreat we always ATTACK!!!
Why dont we keep him?
We finally get a back who has speed, is a punishing rusher, has hands….and yea, he gets hurt, but we need him in 2012.
There’s too much blogsturbation over accumulating draft picks….

i dont think anyone is off limits this off season , givin the new staff and salary cap problems
Oakland has some desperate needs at several positions , no cap space to persue free agents , and few draft picks to build through the draft , i dont think mckenzie will take anything off the table .
D mac is an awesome back when healty , but may never play a full season , bush will command a large contract on the free agent market , we may not get to keep them both , plus when you look at the contracts handed out to peterson and chris jhonson , mc fadden will be in that ball park , can oakland really afford to make that type of commitment to a rb on a second contract that has already has a chronic injury problem i love dmac but is it a good long term plan to build around a part time player
as far as a team getting him for a third … no way , a team that sees themselves as one peice away would pay a hefty price for dmac even if only for a year , a team like the jets would give you a kings randsome in picks and plyers to get back to where they think they should be
Nah
I like DMC, he has tremendous (I mean that too) upside. The dude is a beast, his only fault is he has been prone to injury. If he stays healthy he will reward whatever team he plays on. Keep him, and this sounds bad, till the wheels fall off!

i say let him play out his contract and when it comes time to resign him make the sedition then. use the talent, he is a very rare player. use and abuse it till its time for him to go. who knows, maybe next year he will stay healthy and we can really see what he does.
