Dennis Allen's Mantra: Fast and Aggressive

Fast and aggressive in all aspects of our team. I suspect these words are the main reason why Dennis Allen was hired. Fast and aggressive is what the Raiders are built for and what they have always been about. This has to put some of our fans concerns to bed about too much change happening in Oakland. The Raiders are still and will always be fast and aggressive. We are who we have always been, even if we are evolving more so than ever before into a team of now instead of a team of the past.

I can't help but be excited about our future under Allen after watching that press conference. He handled himself very well with the media for his first press conference as head coach. You can tell when he speaks he wants to give eye contact and let you know that he means what he is saying. When this man says we want to instill discipline and be proud of our team again he means it with every fiber of his being. This seems like a man that can not help but demand your respect and attention. This seems like a man that can make a legitimate dent in our penalty problems.

He made sure to include some of Al's mottoes to alleviate some of our fears of the changes we are going through. You can tell that he wanted each of us fans to know that the Oakland Raiders are a team built on their mystique and that he is not coming in here to change that part of us. When asked if he thought we needed broad changes across the board Allen had no hesitation in responding no. The changes that need to be made can be made with a lot of our existing personal. You don't take over a top 10 offense and start selling off the pieces, and I am glad that Dennis Allen seems willing to live by that philosophy as well.

We are a team capable of winning now and our goal remains to win now. This is not the start of a rebuilding stage, its the start of an evolution that has been delayed for a long time. While we had Al Davis on this realm and in control I was O.K. running his antiquated system, but now he is gone and its time for our team to adjust to the new age. Change is inevitable and we held on longer than anybody could have imagined.

Now the inevitable change is here and the initiation of it is going to be looked over by Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen. They are both inexperienced in the positions they hold but are very strong minded, strong willed individuals. We are going to see a decrease in penalties and an increase in production under these individuals. I feel it all the way through my bones.Coach Allen believes that we have a team that he can win with now, that he can make listen to him, that he can add discipline to, and that is going to be proud of who they are. Lets show him that he has a team that has fans that believe in them too.

This is a good time to be a Raider fan again. It will be a very long time before my line of thinking can be proven correct, but the glory days are about to return to our Raider Nation. We might have the youngest coach in the league, but he has fire and brimstone running through his veins. Dennis Allen proved to me today that he deserves to wear the Silver and Black. I can't wait (even though I have to) to see those driven eyes coaching our team from the sidelines. That black and silver striped tie he wore to the press conference looked pretty damn good too.

First Impression

Not the most polished public speaker. I can see he is strong willed and passionate. That is good for a start.

Hahah, good enthusiasm

Alas, I’m excited about every coaching hire to start (except Norv Turner). And of course he is going to say the things everyone before him has said. Results will still be the key to his success. From that stand point, man it will be a long painful wait for next season. He sounds like he means what he says, but then again so did Hue. Let us see who he brings in to run the D and how they handle the draft and free agency. For now, I’m just glad we have a coach.

by lakers007raiders on Jan 30, 2012 2:36 PM PST reply actions

Ironically as much of a drop dead optimist that i am I STILL HATED THE NORV HIRE!!

I think Hue did mean what he said too absolutely and his offense did do what he wanted them to but he just was not a very good coach for the defensive side. He had a terrible DC and did nothing to help the defense and so they failed. As for Allen I think he is such a good motivator that he will be able to help the offense with his personality but that the defense will really mature. The offense is good enough to flourish without as much attention but the defense needs the help and thats why the offensive minded Hue was not able to get the best out of them IMO. He gave his attention to the already impressive offense and left the D on its own. If Allen does the opposite we should still see better results because of the defense being the side in need of serious attention.

Yeah but something to look forward to

Is that we have a GM, so he will keep an eye on what happens day to day with Allen, they seemed connected, he will help Allen if he is fucking up, with a modern football eye. They should keep Saunders though, really good OC that can help teh Allen transition smoother, bring in a DC he feels comfortable with and lets get to work. Problem with Hue was that (as much as I love Al) he wasnt overlooked by anyone with the modern football eye we needed, and was surrounded by a mediocre Defensive staff. Plus we were still en-route to win the division when Al was alive, we will now get a better staff (again, hopefully retaining Saunders) and improvement on D, because, anything is better than ‘’Suck Chcuk’’ ….I dont know if it is blind faith, or it is my gut, but I have a great feeling for next season. Agreed

I will maintain my optimistic caution and I should point out our offense was not flawless. Rather they looked pretty good, not great. He either needs to keep Al Saunders or he needs to bring in a solid OC to improve our offense. I was not pleased with many 2nd half lapses and the lack of production in the 4th Quarter bugged me too. It does not require a ton of work, but some solid tweaks would be nice. I did like his mention of discipline. Hmmm, a year where we don’t make top 10 in penalties…………..imagine that :P

Missed the conference

But read the articles about it. Like the enthusiasm in this guy.

But somebody tell me this:

The result of this, we suspect, is that a lot of players will find Allen’s style of leadership off-putting, and will miss the old laissez-faire days when the players held the hammer because they had better access to Al than the coach did. Some may even resist, or rebel.

I see the sportswriters saying this a lot. Is there any truth to this, and how would they possibly know if there was?

by rightnasty on Jan 30, 2012 5:25 PM PST reply actions

I think the second part of the question is one of the answers, how would anybody know?

If the players find discipline off putting then they probably are making stupid mistakes and need that style of coaching more than anybody. We need changes to the stupid things we do and we need the players to understand and embrace that. If they dont they will be replaced. I dont see any reason to believe he wont be accepted and i dont see any reason to cater to people that are not willing to make the adjustments to play within his guidance. If they dont like his style and dont respond to it then they can play elsewhere IMO, the days of superseding the coaches are done. They now have the control and if any players dont like it then good luck finding somewhere else that will fit that undeserved comfort zone, because no successful team will allow the sort of things that happened here when Al would cater to the talent. He was special and sometimes made it work but it is not the way it should be or will be done anymore.

It's either hierarchy or anarchy!

It’s time for the spoiled babies to be held accountable.

The sportswriters want us to fail so they always have a go to if they have to slam out an article.
I liked every thing he said except “at the end of the day”

I feel more positive after the presser.

My way or the highway

Most teams have this philosophy already. Hopefully players are willing to embrace the discipline. It’s obvious its needed – many players said this in some shape or form throughout the year as they kept making stupid mistakes to keep opponents drives alive or stifle our own drive. Surely they can’t be happy with that style of play, but if leniency is more important… see ya.

Rolando McClain's Fate

seems to be in Reggie’s facial expression. Check the 40 min mark of the press conference. He had a subtle smile as the question was being asked, but when McClain’s name came out, the smile disappeared…

Other than that, I think it seems like there won’t be too much disruption except in areas where it’s desperately needed i.e. the secondary.

Yup

The only part of the team he said needed work was the secondary. I found that interesting and I agree. The Raiders still don’t have the right safety on the team. Think Ronnie Lott.

Damn wtf

I like Knapp as a coach, but it’s going to depend if he plays to the strengths of his players skills on offense, like what Hue did or if he sticks to what he knows, which is a ZBS West Coast style offense or he goes with a Dennison style with ZBS running, and play action and roll outs.

I still want to see trapping, pulling , power blocking and counters when it comes to OLine run blocking.

Dont understand why go with the West Coast offense

When we had something really going on….dang it, again though, I will support Allen whatever he does, until he fucks up…I am with him

by RaiderPride20 on Jan 30, 2012 11:55 PM PST reply actions

That is exactly the attitude we cant have

‘’it might be his first fuck up’’ I am talking about until we see he fucked up, right now we have to give it a chance, until it doesnt show how bad the move was, Im on board

by RaiderPride20 on Jan 31, 2012 2:47 PM PST up reply actions

I voted no after I heard him offering the OC job to Knapp

I think that’s a huge mistake by Allen as his first move as HC. I was OK moving on from Saunders but Knapp is a boring, predictable play caller…not what Allen said this offense would be. I think this move sets us back offensively and we really couldn’t afford that this season with a revamped defense hopefully. I understand he wants guys he has experience with but Knapp is a declining talent and not what the doctored ordered at all.

We needed a much stronger and creative mind at the helm of this juggernaut…not a guy that will be average. Not to mention we will probably move back to a zone blocking scheme which we sucked at. You lost a bit of my trust already with a lame move like this.

You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.

by Buster Bluth on Jan 31, 2012 4:42 AM PST reply actions

Knapp?!!!

What happened to multiple formations and shifts and an aggressive attacking offense? Knapp will give us vanilla predictability. Say goodbye to the top 10 offense we had. Hopefully Knapp will let Carson Bomber do his thing and chuck it for a 70 yard TD every now and then…

I came in on this after the Knapp hiring. No Yes vote from this old dog.

IDGAF about the success of the Texans QB….we need an OC who isnt a retread piece of shit that was kicked to the curb by us years ago, found work as a position coach, then comes back to us because Allen knew him in Atlanta….
Allen + first major decision = Fuck up.

Maybe but i want to see what happens on the field before I say that it was a mistake.

Right now its just an educated guess that its a fuck up but Knapp has had some success in certain areas and now has possibly the most talented offense he has ever worked with (Next to Texans but as you said that was a specific position he coached)

When Knapp coached for us...well, he was a douche.

and like Bresnahan we have another fucking retread. we have’had Saunders…what we needed was a DC. So…if this is what’s happening, a new OC and Allen also running the defense, as it looks so far, then we’re fucked. Hue spilled over into Saunders’ job, control and power freak that he was, and if they had left Saunders to his own self, perhaps we would have been more successful.
We dont need a QB coach….and we certainly didnt need this rerun of bad days.
Unimaginative, run dominant, 3 and out motherfucker. I was happy with Allen, but am damned pissed off that Knapp is back.

I cant say i disagree about Saunders, really really wanted to just keep him

I just have to still wait and see on Knapp, we were a horrible team with no upside when he was here last time and it would have been frustrating and unproductive for anyone. He has had a lot of scoring success in previous stints as an OC and is experienced. I really like the Dennis Allen hire and if i want to trust him then I have to trust that he knew the person all along that he wanted to come in and coach his offense. He would have thought of Knapp right away upon getting the job and I have to believe that the two of them fit together in a way that Allen expects to be productive. Do I like Knapp being hired? NO. However I am not going to assume because we sucked with him before with an awful team that we would suck with him again with a very talented team.
