Carson Palmer either barking out a play or telling the sports world where they can put their power rankings - Peter Aiken
In the past three weeks the Raiders have gone from seemingly hopeless to climbing back among respectability. But you wouldn't know it by looking at the power rankings.
The general feeling seems to be if a team gets beaten by the Raiders, they must be truly bad. Which is why the two teams at the bottom of the SB Nation rankings are the Raiders last two opponents. It's also why the Raiders have only moved up to being the 26 ranked team in the league.
It makes a lot of sense that the Jaguars and Chiefs are the worst teams in the NFL. It is not all just because they lost to the Raiders. The truly deserve that ranking. But the low ranking for the Raiders suggests that the hard-fought, nail-biter against top team in the rankings, the undefeated Falcons is getting completely overlooked. The suddenly solid and opportunistic defense is going unnoticed.
Here is the explanation by Ryan Van Bibber:
26. Oakland Raiders (LW: 28, 3-4): Congrats, you beat the Chiefs on the road. Catching the Broncos is outside the realm of possibility; staying ahead of the Chargers for second place in the division is not.
Ok, so Van Bibber says it is possible the Raiders could stay ahead of the Chargers to take second in the division. So why then are the Chargers at 17 in the power rankings?
Also ranked well above the Raiders are the Cardinals (16) who were just embarrassed by the 49ers to drop four in a row and the Bengals (18) who have the same record as the Raiders (3-4) but have now lost three in a row.
See the entire NFL rankings here and let Van Bibber know what you think. Then come back here and give your opinion.
So what do you think of these rankings as well as the 26th ranking for the Raiders?
