There comes a time when you realize in yourself that you must stop and figure out the problem before moving forward. I am sure everyone in the Nation is with me in believing that the problem is almost all the players that were here before Al Davis passed away. Richard Seymour must be let go. Tommy Kelly must be let go. Michael Huff must be let go. Pretty much anyone who received a Al payday must go. So you get my drift and I do not need to go on and on.
I honestly believe that the only players I want to see on this defense moving forward are Desmond Bryant, Lamar Houston, Tyvon Branch, Miles Burris, Phillip Wheeler, Joselio Hanson and Maybe Phillip Adams. Some of you will basically destroy with words not needing repeating with the Hanson move. I just feel he would be a hell of a nickle back. If they want him for more then that then he needs to be given his papers. These guys all play with high motors and still want to play some damn football. We could move to a 3-4 and allow Coach Allen and Coach Tarver to build the defense that they like to run. Pretty sure there are many of you who are against Coach Tarver and maybe even Coach Allen. The only way Coach Allen goes anywhere is if for some crazy reason Coach Gruden is brought from out of the booth. That is it. Enough said.
When it comes to offense I am not sure. I like Carson Palmer but he is owed a lot of money. I feel if he can extend his contract 2 year to cap friendly then he could bridge the gap to our quarterback of the future. Do not sit there and say oh we have been saying that since Rich Gannon. This is a new era and we need to embrace it. I love our WRs. I feel that Darrius Heyward-Bey is a great worker but need to become a better gamer. I feel his time needs to come to an end in Oakland. So that leaves us with some hungry WRs. Denarious Moore is a great slot wr. Put Rod Streater and Juron Criner on the outside and see what you get. Maybe try to add a veteran wr. Oh wait we have that guy in Derek Hagan. We can build a nice core of wrs here. I like Brandon Myers a lot but we need someone else too. Poor guy has to do it all. He reminds me a lot of Jason Witten. Our line is one of those lines where ya like piece of it but hate the rest. Veldheer is solid but not great. Wisniewski is a nice piece but has not developed that nasty streak I heard all about. The rest can go. Marcel Reece and Jeremy Stewart can stick around at RB. I also like Mike Goodson too! I am not giving up on Terrell Pryor and neither should anyone else.
So lets take a look at this overhaul we have to deal with.
QB: Terrell Pryor
We need much more out of this spot besides going with a young guy.
RB: Mike Goodson, Jeremy Stewart
We need to give these fellows a shot or make a splash in free agency or draft.
FB: Marcel Reece
Love his ability to play all over the place.
WR: Rod Streater, Juron Criner, Denarious Moore, Derek Hagan
Love this young group but could use a solid vet to go with Hagan.
TE: Brandon Myers
Breakout season! Hope it continues.
O-Lineman: Jared Veldheer, Stefan Wisniewski, Tony Bergstrom
Keep around the young fella for depth. I do not see starter potential yet but who knows.
D-Lineman: Lamar Houston, Desmond Bryant, Christi Bilukidi, Jack Crawford
I say we need to see what we have in Crawford and Bilukidi before letting them run off.
Linebackers: Miles Burris, Phillip Wheeler
We need an overhaul here. Maybe we find another sleeper in draft and more Wheelers.
Defensive Backs: Tyvon Branch, Phillip Adams, Joselio Hanson
I cant stand the thought of keeping anyone else. Maybe Taiwan Jones if he gets a shot and impresses.
Special Teams: Shane Lechler, Sebastian Janikowski, Jon Condo
You did notice we need returns BAD. Good teams have them.
We need major upgrades! Lets see what the latest mock draft has us doing without trades:
1st Round: Jarvis Jones (OLB) Georgia
Head on straight and comes from disciplined team. Huge upgrade on pass rush.
2nd Round: N/A
3rd Round: Chase Thomas (OLB) Stanford
Another school of discipline and adds more pass rush which we need.
4th Round: Gabe Jackson (OG) Mississippi State
Held his own in the big boy conference. Should roll over and be a mainstay guard.
5th Round: N/A
6th Round: Montee Ball (RB) Wisconsin
This guy is a grinder. Great value pick.
7th Round: Damion Square (DE) Alabama
Adds to a horrible pass rush. He plays runs better but still great value.
I know we didn't grab any Corners but we need to get value with our picks. We need players.
Now look at team:
QB: Terrell Pryor
RB: Mike Goodson, Jeremy Stewart, Montee Ball
FB: Marcel Reece
WR: Rod Streater, Juron Criner, Denarious Moore, Derek Hagan
TE: Brandon Myers
O-Lineman: Jared Veldheer, Stefan Wisniewski, Tony Bergstrom, Gabe Jackson
D-Lineman: Lamar Houston, Desmond Bryant, Christi Bilukidi, Jack Crawford, Damion Square
Linebackers: Miles Burris, Phillip Wheeler, Jarvis Jones, Chase Thomas
Defensive Backs: Tyvon Branch, Phillip Adams, Joselio Hanson
Special Teams: Shane Lechler, Sebastian Janikowski, Jon Condo
This team is fit for a 3-4 now! So lets work it like a 3-4.
RE: Lamar Houston, Jack Crawford
NT: Christi Bilukidi
LE: Desmond Bryant, Damion Square
OLB/Rusher: Jarvis Jones
ILB: Phillip Wheeler
ILB: Miles Burris
OLB: Chase Thomas
CB: Phillip Adams
CB:
Nickel Corner: Joselio Hanson
Free Safety:
Strong Safety: Tyvon Branch
I like the direction this team is headed. We need more corners. We need a "NUMBER 1" guy bad.
