Immediately following Sunday's game against the Browns, Raiders coach Dennis Allen left for Texas to be with his ailing father. And we learned this morning that Grady Allen has passed on of cardiac arrest. He was just 66 years of age.
Grady was hospitalized last week with heart problems last week and it had gotten serious enough that Dennis got on a plane to fly out to Dallas Texas to be with him.
A Raiders spokesman said on Monday that the situation was very serious and the Raiders organization was very concerned. Dennis Allen was already slated to remain in Texas with his father and family until Wednesday night prior to the Raiders Thursday game.
Grady was a former NFL who played five seasons at linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons (1968-72). Dennis followed in his father's footsteps, first playing at his alma mater and later coaching there and then moving on to coach for the Falcons.
"The organization wishes to extend its most sincere condolences to Coach and his entire family," said the Raiders in an official statement Tuesday morning.
I would like to echo those sentiments. Dennis and his father were very close and this is a great loss. Dennis himself is just 40 years old and should have had many more years with his father. My heart goes out to him and his family.
