Oakland Raiders Draft 2012: QB, Kellen Moore, Boise State
The word on the street is that Kellen Moore will be around in the 6th - 7th Round. Personally, I would have a difficult time passing on this kid in the 6th round.
The current Oakland QB situation looks like this:
Carson Palmer - Awesome, awesome, awesome!
Terrelle Pryor - A HUGE question mark
Rhett Bomar - A Career Practice Squad QB who was cut by Minnesota after getting a DUI in August of 2011
I have to say that after Palmer, the Raiders may be in worse shape than they were last year. In fact, Kellen Moore could come in and perform as well as many of the young QB's did in 2011.
Here is a look at his High School and NCAA Career:
He set Washington state career records for completions (787) and touchdown passes (173). He also set Washington state single-season records for completions (317 as a junior), yards (4,600 as a junior) and touchdown passes (67 as a senior).
In four seasons at Boise State, Kellen Moore passed for over 14,667 yards, 142 TDs and only 28 INTs. That is incredibly solid. If you add this to the fact that he finished his Bachelor's Degree early and is working on his Masters in Kinesiology. He married his High School sweetheart and is already in a mentoring program. What else could you ask for from a kid that you got in the 6th Round?
With a run first team, the Raiders need a smart back-up in this mold who can come in if Carson gets hurt. He would just need to manage the game and let the defense, special teams and running backs win the game.

I like Kellen Moore
I’m not sure he will be available though that late. I think he’s a top 5 college QB. He played great for Boise and did whatever the coach asked of him. He was efficient and had great poise during big games. He was a big reason they won so much in Boise and he will be missed there. The only knack on him is he played inferior competition in the WAC. However he did what any good QB would do under that situation; win and put up numbers. I wouldn’t mind the pick up if the Raiders can get him though.

I like him too, but....
If he is still available in those late rounds, pick him up…see how he does.
He’s a bit short at 6’0 (and I think they rounded up). He does have good stats, is smart and plays well under pressure. Again, pick him up if he’s still available. I’m a bit worried about Pryor, I have some Ohio State fan/friends who says he’s a dud, so we might need a quality 3rd stringer and Bomar ain’t it.
Don't let that baby face fool you,
Kellen Moore is unbelievably smart. Even as a freshman, and sophomore QB going up against a National title contender Oregon both years, he torched there defense in both games, screaming out to a commanding lead in each. This when nobody gave BSU a chance in hell.
His reaction time to situations, was way quicker than any of those college defenses, which is why he was so successful. I have no doubt that Kellen could keep up with the NFL.
He is like a QB/Coach. He would be the best backup QB you could find. It will be like having another coach on the sidelines. and we could use him in all sorts of clutch, or trick play situations. And don’t be surprised if he designs them. I’m not kidding. He is extremely capable.
A lot of people will bring up that he played in a weaker conference, but where Kellen stood out was when he went up against the College “Big boys”. This year in the game against Georgia, which supposedly had the biggest defensive line in years, again he torched them. With brand new receivers too. He beat Oregon twice the 08’ runner up, and the 09’ Pac 10 champs, Virginia Tech who then won the ACC, and Georgia, who then won the SEC east. Only one of those games was at home, the second game against a pissed off Oregon that vowed revenge, only to be beat once again.
He’s the kind of QB that other teams hate, because he just out smarts them, and nobody can stop him. He’s smart like Elway was, and I hope you remember how he use to drive us crazy. It was like he knew what we were going to do before we did it. Same thing.
If we can get him anywhere after the 4th round, we’d be crazy not to. They actually name a College QB award after him.
If you ever wanted to see Boise St play...may be a good chance. Love em or Hate em, they are always interesting; and now, no matter where you live, "They're Coming To Your City"
I like this guy.
I live in Oregon, so i know those games well. He plays good under pressure and never seeems to quit. He is not going to be around in the 6th, maybe not the 5th, I really don’t know what these draft assholes think though. I would put him a risky 3, or solid 4th…But then I’m no draft expert. I think he played better than Pryor. Different systems but….He seems to understand the game well.
If hes there get him
Moore is experienced, smart, and the dude is a winner. I have a hard time seeing him drop past the 4th round though.
Normally I would agree with this request
but in a year with so few picks, and so many holes (and even more appearing as Routt is cut) to fill, I would most likely not use one of those precious picks on a 3rd string QB. Granted, this kid has major upside, no arguments there… I just see more pressing needs than a 3rd string QB
Raiders need a veteran QB to back up Palmer.
What would the Raiders have to do to draft Moore? Cut Pryor. sign a back up veteran. Can’t see the Raiders giving up on Pryor after burning this years 3rd round pick on him. Nor can I see the Raiders carrying 4 QB’s. Not enough picks for that luxury.
I'm for it
But that’s because I’m not sold on Palmer, and we have no depth at QB at all. We need a real QB for this franchise, and well lets face it…we have had pretty good luck at picking “Moores” in recent times hahahaha (D moore obviously, Sterling Moore played great in the Playoffs/superbowl for a rookie) Seriously though, we need a smart QB that has leadership traits. Keller sounds like he’s that guy.
With Pryor and Palmer...we absolutely need a decent vet
I like this kid as much as any of you but we have a project QB right now in Pryor and the new regime will be watching him closely this season to see what we have I would imagine. I don’t think he’s ready yet to be a #2 on the team yet but it’s hard to say since we really haven’t gotten a good look at him yet.
We need this draft to be all about finding value and getting some more talent on the defensive side of the ball. If this kid is sitting around in the 7th round and we get a 7th rounder then fine but otherwise…we need a veteran backup QB. We saw what happens when you can’t rely on your backup last season.
You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.
For all the neighsayers:
He reminds me of Joe Montana.

Man if he is available even in the 4th or 5th i would absolutely take him
He is going to be successful in the NFL, I cant believe he is predicted to go so low! I imagine once he lights it up at the combine next week his draft stock is going to soar, i picture him at least going 3rd or 4th round. He is so cool and collective in the pocket and he has really decent arm strength. Worst case scenario for him is he is a 6-8 year second stringer in the NFL and that is still worth quite a bit

Kellen Moore is too short..
I like the guy as well, but his only problem is he played with a line that wasn’t very tall in the middle. The college pass game success, while was against most of a weaker conference schedule, he did play well in the big games. Proving he is winner at this level. Look at that kid from Cleveland. WInningest QB in College, what’s his name? oh yeah, Colt McCoy. Yikes. I didn’t see a release of Jason Camble yet either as a back up.
The exception to the rule...

Tell me again which college QB has the most wins?
Check your stats Dizzle, the “Winningest QB in College, what’s his name? oh yeah, Colt McCoy.” now reads “Kellen Moore”. And that ‘kid’ from Cleveland is just 1" taller than Kellen! Drew Brees is 6’0", Aaron Rodgers is 6’2". So tell me again how Moore’s 6’0" height is an issue?
His height may not be as adequate...
But it looks like he has a Tom Brady future ahead of him. Winning attitude, classiness, true leader, great release and follow through. I would gladly trade Pryor, Schilenz, and Louis Murphy for this guy.

LOL
You and the writer of this article need to be locked in a box until after free agency and the draft. I don’t want you 2 filling up the heads of our mgmt with such nonsense.

All this talk that Kellen Moore is too short
but he’s the same height as Drew Brees. I think he’ll be very successful in the right system in the NFL. He’s been a winner on all levels. A lot of teams will be kicking themselves five years from now for passing on KM.
i like this idea
i think moore has what it takes to be a NFL Quarterback, but then again sometimes college QB’s we think will do good in the NFL end up just sucking, example: David Carr, Matt Lienart. Personally i feel that Moore has potential, and it TP doesnt work out, i think he can be part of the missing piece of the puzzle we are looking for, IF hes available. With new GM and new Ownership going into this Draft Year, we might be looking either at Chaos or Salvation when coming to the draft. Lets Pray to god we get it right this year like we did in the 10-11 draft year with McClain and Houston.
Foolishness
A 3rd string QB is NOT one of our needs going into a draft where we will only have a handful of picks. What a complete wasted pick! I’m sure glad you’re not the GM of my team! We need to find DB’s and linemen. Scouting will be extremely important since we’ll be looking for diamonds in the late-round rough.
