RUMOR: We have our new DC
The orignial story is that the Raiders are interested in Stanford's Co-Defensive Coordinator Jason Tarver. He's 37 and was brought to Stanford to replace Vic Fangio after he left to join harbaugh in San Francisco. Tarver was previously with the Niners for the last decade as an outside linebackers coach and offensive assistant. Word in the Tweets is that he has decide to join the Raider Nation as their new DC. Details are at a minium for the moment, as awards and superbowl activites are currently taking place. But more info should emerge by Monday. With that said, How do you guys like the Hire?

Im trying to remember what kind of D the 9er's had (except for last year)....
Nope, drawing a blank…. Im hoping our D wont be as unmemorable….
he wasnt their coordinator
so im not too concerned with his track record with them. He must of did a decent job to last there for a decade. He’s young(for a coach) and has a lot of experience, so it could be promising. I don’t know for sure, but the niners have been running a 3-4 for as long as I remember. But we’ll see what comes out by monday.

Niners D was ranked just above the middle when Manusky was there... 2007-2011

They were but they consistently were in the top half against the run and one year avg 17.6 PPG.
Those aren’t bad stats and could be a good compliment to a much more stable offense centered more on the run than Carson audibling and trying to throw for 400 yds & 2 picks every week.

He was under Singletary as a linebacker coach.
That can’t be all that bad. That was Singletarys specialty
If you ever wanted to see Boise St play...may be a good chance. Love em or Hate em, they are always interesting; and now, no matter where you live, "They're Coming To Your City"
I like this hire a lot.
If he and Allen can have anything approaching Stanford’s performance stopping the run, then it’s a spectacular hire. Top five in the country, despite losing key players from your defense to the NFL and graduation, is VERY impressive. He also has nine years of NFL experience, with five of those as the Niners’ outside linebackers coach. Apparently Harbaugh would have kept him on but he decided to take the job at Stanford instead.

This is at least the kind of hire I had expected Stanford ran a physical D
This is better than all of the other options tossed out there!

could be worse
im good with this hire, I wanna see his interview and some of his defensive philosophies.
Good Hire !!!!
Now if this young man had “Stanford’s” Defense Balling for 10 out of 11 games, Oregon being the only team, they couldn’t run with, or the fact was they exploited Stanford team speed, which tells me his schemes WERE DAMN GOOD !!!!!!
I like it
I like the idea of a good linebacker coach coming in as the DC, Allen was a good DB coach and he will be overseeing the whole deal so I think we are moving in the correct direction with this guy.
"Committed To Excellence" Mostly just "Committed" though
Wiki already has him as our DC
Jason Tarver (born August 28, 1974) is an American football coach, and currently the defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders. Previously, he was co-defensive coordinator and inside linebacker coach for the Stanford Cardinal football team.
Glad we passed om Manusky...this guy seems to have a good background
and hopefully, if signed understands and employs a dynamite system.

That video
Makes me feel real good about this signing. Hopefully its not a rumor.
Fresh Blood
Say what you want but this new HC and DC prove that we are bringing in fresh guys and fresh ideas
And from that we should spawn a different philosophy
Of course it could blow up, but I’ll ride the hires for at least the next 6 months
looks good!
ill give him a chance. he’s better than panda and what i like bout him is he is practicing fundamentals in practice. our team is awful at tackling/
I thought you already quit on this team?

When Mark Davis hired Mckenzie I could not be more excited. We havent had a general manager in 10 years and Al Davis always picked athletes over players. I understand that John Madden and Ron Wolf sat in the meeting and advised Davis to pick Mckenzie, however there were not enough interviews conducted to say that this guy is going to be a great GM. First things first you fire Hue Jackson who in mind at least deserved a second season and.. IF you were going to fire him bring in a veteran coach or a MORE experienced coach!. Second you have this hour long conference that was boring as hell about you and “your guy” you have coming. At the time I was excited because I figured he had young , ambitious, knowledgeble ,CREDITED coach in mind who he has been eyeing for years instead he had nobody at the time! My third issue is the interviews! I mean what did he see wrong in the other coaches and what did he see right in DENNIS ALLEN. DENNIS ALLEN..smh an average defensive cordinator for the arch enemy the denver broncos!. We should have tried him as a cordinator first I wouldnt mind that but as a head coach we are done!.He is a rookie coach that is very, very, very ,young and I have a problem with young head coaches that do not know x’s and o’s and focus on discipline. The last coach that teached discipline and was young was Mike Shanahan who in my opinion is the most overatted head coach in history. MIke was terrible for the raiders in the late 80’s and Allen will be terrible for Raiders right now. Goodbye to our season and superbowl run. Mark there was a reason why AL kicked you out of the war room..lol

with this guys college background, outside of coaching,
he’s like a mad scientist. smart coaches turn out smart players that respect their coaches, the game, and play hard for the brand. sorry chuck b, you failed in making kinda this mold! some sleepers coming our way later in the draft from the cardinal???
Didn't Stanford's D get torched by Oklahoma State?
The pass defense was non existent…
Hopefully that was just a minor blip!
Every man for himself...
they
lost a majority of their secondary to injuries later in the season, because it was fine against USC
how long before this team can become a legit' contender?
I have a strong feeling that this coaching staff will also have to get their kind of players to be able to execute their type of defense and offense. I can see this situation taking 3 to 4 years with our current salary cap and draft status.
what do you all think?
Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth.
-Mike Tyson
As much as people may disagree with your time span and mine too.
I have to agree. Alot of fans think were closer to becoming a legit contender, most thinking we will get to see a potential playoff team next year. But with this new regime stepping in, there could be change and a lot of it. I think we(Raider Nation+ Personnel) all want what the Pats, Steelers, Ravens, packers and Saints have a team that will contend every year for the next 10 years. Im not sure what direction Reggie plansto go in, it may be something crazy and drastic, hell it may be conservative and we may more than like retain most of our players. But good teams dont get blown out like the Raiders did in 4 or 5 of our games last year, bad teams do. Im not saying the Raiders are bad we just have a lot to fix: Secondary, Linebackers, Around 75% of the defense, Red Zone effciency, Injuries, penalties, playing consistent football. We have a talented team but we also have a lot to fix. It will be an interesting offseason. And we will have to wait and see.
