CB Asa Jackson, Cal Poly
When browsing CBS Draft, I set on to look for a late round CB for our team. CBs this free agency are not very abundant, with only abut 3 guys I would even consider. I looked for a CB with good speed. Height doesn't necessarily concern me, although I tend to stay away from CB that are 5'9".
So I came across Asa Jackson from Cal Poly. 5'10", 193 lbs, 4.40 40 time. I looked him up on youtube, and I came across a video (yes!), and surprisingly.... he looks very good.
Asa Jackson Cal Poly Highlights (via MrAsajackson)
I liked what I saw.
1) Toughness. The guy is a hard hitter, and a very good tackler. Recorded 55 tackles (40 solo) in 2010.
2) Great awareness against he pass. He has 2 INTs in 2010, but he also has 9 passes broken up, and 11 Pass Deflections. Usually is in position to make a play.
3) In the video I saw very good body control. he looks like he can stay stride for stride with most of the WRs in the NFL. Coupled with his awareness and quickness, he looks like a better version of Sterling Moore.
I think Asa can be our slot CB, but if he develops, I think he'll be a very good #2 corner. Tough player who can stay stride for stride with receivers, and has the awareness to jump up and deflect a pass, or break up a pass. In 2011, he suffered a toe injury, but he still played in all but one game that year. He recorded 44 tackles in 2011, and 2 INTs anyways. Maybe he kick McFadden's rear back onto the field eh? :P
So what are your thoughts?

Oh yeah he is a very good punt returner.
Returned 17 punts for an average of 12.6 yards per put. 14th best in the nation. Career punt average was 13.83 yards.
But that was in 2010.
I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP

An editorial thought
You know I love discussing draft prospects. However, by posting about them one at a time, these posts will end up getting lost in the shuffle well before April’s draft. My suggestion would be to build larger posts by position group that can end up on the front page so that the entire S&BP community can discuss them as the draft approaches.

Sure no problem.
