For the Raider fan that thought the team would be a free spender in free agency have still not gotten over the death of Al Davis. Times have changed in a major way...and for the good. The days of Al Davis players getting an NFL scholarship because Al loved the player are over (aka James Jett, Grant Irons, Sam Williams and so on and so on). The release of Routt in the very begining shows that things will never be the same. The new GM Reggie came into a cap mess with players that were signed to contracts but did not show their true worth. Finally we will have coaches that coach and a defense that will not be bland and predictable. No more man to man all the time; we will probobaly see more blitzes in this year then we have in the past 20 years. We will see the best players out on the field because of their play and not because of their contract.I hated the first year that DHB was here. There was no reason he should have been starting he was not ready at all and I'm more than sure the coach knew that as well but did not have the final say. I am very excited to be a Raider fan, seeing how a football team should be run the right way and not like a mom and pop diner that is outdated and has seen its better days. Some say that with these cuts we are in total rebuild mode. I say "HA!" to you my friends! We were an okay defense away from the playoffs last year. The defense last year was the worst I have seen from the Raiders in years in terms of points allowed and the way we made aveerage offenses look great. We got rid of Routt and Wimbley who could not cover a RB or TE to save his life. So who else did we lose to where we are in total rebuild mode? We are one healthy season from DMAC to be damn good. The cornerbacks we picked up are a upgrade over what we put out on the field last year not to menton DVD and Chemkwa had flashes of being above averge CB's. Our offense is solid needing a decent TE to complete it. Palmer will do a lot better with a full off season under his belt and if DMAC can stay healthy our offense could be a beast which means it all falls on the defense which can only do better IMHO because thats how bad we were last year. Im hoping we can land an OLB to complete this off season along with a TE. Dallas Clark comes to mind unless they feel like Ausberry and Myers can carry the load. Getting the comp picks will help out a great deal and may land us a starter on D in the linebacker core. Playoffs are not a pipe dream but rather a goal that can and will be accomplished this year.
