Tons Of Talent Waiting In The Later Rounds For Oakland To Build On

With the draft right around the corner it appears the draft will be loaded with talent perfectly suited to Oakland's areas of need . I know there's alot of best player talk heading into the draft , well played , if you want to get value for your picks while wheeling , and dealing on draft day the other clubs need to believe that you could take anybody , and if they have their eye on a particular player they have to deal with you . But make no mistake , if the best player available every time you pick is a QB , Reggie Mackenzie is not gonna draft 5 QB's.

While I watch the draft prospects value rise and fall it appears this draft is shaping up well for Oakland , and even if our picks are at positions of need there is an argument to be made that the player selected is the best available . The talent is there in the later rounds for Oakland to fill all of it's needs.

With Brisiel , Wisniewski , and Veldhere Oakland has a nice foundation to build on , but large questions remain at LG , and RT . Cooper Carslile lost a step at RG , and is now trying to make the transition to LG . He is also on a 1 yr contract . Rishaw Johnson , California ( PA ) is a legitimate NFL caliber talent who packs a punch , Desmond Wynn , Rutgers , also has the potential to be a starter in the NFL if he can stay healthy . Lucas Nix , Pittsburg , Amini Silatolu , Midwestern st. (La) , will also be in play in the later rounds to provide depth , competition , and a possible future at LG . Zietler from Wisconsin would be a steal , butt it appears his draft stock has risen beyond Oakland's reach.

Kaliff Barnes is back on a 1yr contract at RT mostly because Joe Barksdale has not been able to take the job for himself , and may not be a good fit with our new blocking scheme . Oakland also has no depth behind Jared Veldhere . This is a spot where there is huge value in the later rounds this year , I actually like some of the 3rd , 4th , 5th rounders more than some of the tackles that will go much higher . Nate Potter , Boise st. has a skill set comparable to 1st rounder Nate Solder. Levy Addock , Ok. st, will also be around in the later rounds , and has the tools to be a NFL tackle . Matt Reynolds , BYU , Tom Compton , S. Dakota , James Brown , Troy , and Brandon Mosley from Auburn may all still be in play when Oakland starts picking in the later rounds .

Oakland was fortunate to add Bartell , and Spencer to the secondary , but yet again the secondary is a position where Oakland is looking at allot of 1 yr contracts. Givin the injury issues that come with our new starting corners and an uncertain future beyond this year. Oakland would be wise to take a look at some of the corners that will be available in the later rounds to see if they can find a starter or two for next year . Omar Bolden Arz. st. has the cover skills and return ability to be a NFL player . His stock has slipped because he is coming off an ACL , it will take a while before he's back to full speed , but his special teams value and upside as a possible future starter would make him a welcome addition to the raider's roster . Mike Harris , Fl. st . has the tools to become a starter , loose hips , elite change of direction , and man coverage skills are out standing . He could be a force as a nickle back in the NFL , a position that is becoming increasingly important in the NFL . Leonard Johnson , Iowa st . , Ryan Steed ,Furman , Trumaine Jhonson , Montana , Josh Robinson UCF , and yes if hes sitting there as a free agent or VERY late rounds Cliff Harris from Oregon could all provide depth and the possibility of getting a future starter at a bargain price .

The most difficult area to address where were picking will be pass rush . We have allot of 5 to 10 sack guys on the roster but whether at LB, or D line Oakland needs to find a way to add some pass rush . Givin the starters on the roster it allows Oakland to option to pursue a situational pass rusher , the kid does not have to be a all around prospect , all we need is someone who can get after the QB and become a pain in Manning' s neck , ya I said it . Sean Spence Miami is one guy who does possess the ability to be an every down LB . he possesses solid read and react skills , times blitzes well , good burst through the hole , nice swim move , can be explosive and close on the QB . Bruce irving , W.V. explosive , quick , fights through contact , strong tackler , goes after the ball , fights through blocks , tough as nails . Josh Kaddu , Oregon , Tank Carder , TCU , Nigel Bradham , are all capable of providing the Raiders with a pass rush specialist in the middle to late rounds .Vontaze Burfict had a horrible combine and is sliding because of it , but is an explosive player in pads. Has upside as a situational pass rusher , but is a classic boom or bust prospect .

Oakland would like to add a TE in this draft , but frankly I like Ausberry , and I think the players we have on the roster have as much , if not more upside than most the tight ends in this draft . That said if the Raiders get a shot to move up and land Orson Charles from Georgia it would not surprise me .

Though Oakland has the likes of Richard Seymour , Tommy Kelly , Desmond Bryant etc. on the roster , listening to Reggie talk i get the impression we may be in the market for another DT . Josh Chapman Alabama is coming off an ACL and seems to have caught the Raiders eye . Though a little undersized Derek Wolfe Cincinnati is quick off the ball , leading all tackles at the FBS level with 21.5 tackles for a loss . fights to the whistle and if he adds bulk could be a steal towards the end of the draft . Akiem Hicks , Regina is raw but could be one of the sleepers in this draft . Got caught up in recruiting violations at LSU and had to play in Canada , but has all the tools to be developed into a top notch NFL DT .

With the loss of Bush another RB would be nice , Oakland would love to see Robert Turbin , Tx A&M drop to them , but its not looking likely . Turbin is shooting up draft boards and may not even make it out of the 2nd round but Chris Polk from Washington could slip , Bob Rainey from W. Kentucky is a workhorse finishing top 3 in yardage the last 2 seasons averaging 139 yds per game . Isaiah Pead from cincy had his 1st 200 carry season and responded with 1,259 yds 12 td's and 40 receptions for over 300 yds , and though its not as important to Reggie he may be the fastest RB in this draft class . Jewel Hampton , S.Illinois comes from a pro style offense , and has good vision . Vick Ballard , Miss. st. at 220 lbs had over 200 yds , and 31 td's in 2 yrs in the SEC.

Even with not picks in the 1st or 2nd round the Raiders have lucked out this year and have plenty of prospects available to them in the later rounds to fill all of their needs .
