Raiders have scheduled a visit with University of Houston LB Sammy Brown, according to Scout.com. Brown is not a greatly heralded player but he did lead the nation in tackles for loss last season (28). He added two more tackles for loss in the Conference Championship game. Brown racked up 93 tackles and 12.5 sacks last season, earning All-Conference USA first-team honors.
At 6-2, 243 pounds, he is a good size for a linebacker. He has decent speed with a 4.63 40 yard dash time. He has lined up at both inside and outside linebacker at Houston. He is expected to be a mid to late round draft pick. If he can impress the Raiders in his visit, he may prove worthy of one of their draft picks.
The former Junior College transfer played primarily at outside linebacker in Houston's 3-4 scheme which would have him translating easily to the Raiders new 3-4 hybrid defensive scheme.
Even with the addition of Philip Wheeler, the Raiders still need depth at every linebacker position. He would find himself in a very good position with the Raiders. Few teams will have a more opportunities at linebacker.
This is not a very good video of Brown but it appears to be the only one out there:
