Round 3- Sean Spence- OLB from Miami (FL)
Spence ran a 4.56 at the combine, which is very fast, but I'm not saying that's why we take him. He's one of the BPAs at this point, and he fills a huge need for the Raiders. We have little depth anywhere outside of defensive line, but linebacker is more so scarce. The new starter at OLB opposite Curry is Philip Wheeler, who was just signed in the last week. They still need a backup in case one of them goes down, and don't really have cap room to do so.
Round 4-Mike Brewster- C from Ohio State
This early 2012 projected first round pick has dropped some with the average workouts and poor Ohio State offensive line last season. Like linebacker, we lack huge depth at O-Line, and we even traded some of it away to solidify running back. Brewster isn't exactly primed to start right now, but he could be serviceable in the event of an injury to Wisnewski, Carlisle, or Briesel.
Round 5-Vontaze Burfict- ILB from Arizona State
Ah, yes. The mysterious Vontaze Burfict. Some fans love the upside, and especially in Oakland, his mean intensity. He will likely drop to the later rounds because of the issues with his technique, measurables, and character. But Oakland needs to take some risks. We might get lucky and get first round Vontaze Burfict. He might completely bust out. At this point, Oakland needs serviceable depth and there's a coin flip chance Burfict could be more than serviceable.
Round 5-DeQuan Menzie-CB from Alabama
I may be a bit biased, but I feel Menzie is an extreme value in Round 5. I am a Tide fan, so I watched every Alabama, and I thought for a good chunk of time last season, Menzie was actually a better corner than Dre Kirkpatrick, a projected first rounder. Menzie would be the 5th corner on the team behind Bartell, Spencer, Chekwa, and DVD. He could play special teams and prevent another washed up guy like Lito Sheppard from seeing time on the field.
Round 6-Donte Paige-Moss- OLB from UNC
Some expert sites agree with me that this is great value in the 6th. Another falling first rounder, Paige-Moss could fill a hole immediately and grab the starting job from Spence or Wheeler. If his mind is right and his troubles are behind him, if we pick him, he could be another Ford-Moore-Bush like steal.
