Michigan Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke and Miles Burris #9 of San Diego State meet on the field
The Raiders have their outside linebacker. His name is Miles Burris from San Diego State. He was projected as a round five pick and since this is the fourth round compensatory pick, it is basically a round five pick. Reggie got his guy in Burris and i guarantee you, he is ecstatic to get him.
Here was what I said about Burris as part of my Raider draft radar series:
He is the kind of guy the draft analysts like to call a high-motor guy. I wouldn't suggest playing a drinking game during the draft on how many times they use the words "effort", "aggressive", "high-motor", or "relentless" unless you want to get wasted pretty quickly. Reggie McKenzie had a guy in Green Bay with whom Burris can be compared by the name of Clay Mathews. Burris is not considerably athletic but he makes up for it with his relentless (drink) aggressive (drink) high motor (drink). Not to mention his unselfish play and coachability (when in doubt, drink). He can play both 3-4 outside linebacker and strong side linebacker (hiccup).
Burris was a First-team All-Mountain West selection and team in 2011 and 2010 and was co-Defensive MVP. He started all 13 games for the Aztecs, leading the team with 80 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks and four fumbles as a senior.
He will play outside linebacker for the Raiders but has the versatility to move inside if/when the Raiders ask him to do so.
Burris is a native of Northern California as he grew up in Sacramento and said he attended Raiders games as a kid.
