Now that the draft is over , we have a pretty good look at what the Oakland Raider's roster will look like for 2012 . Reggie McKenzie still has some holes to fill though , and when you look at whats available out there Oakland's new GM has got his work cut out for him . With depth needed at OLB, ILB, TE , OT and nickle back , there is very little out there to choose from . Though DT Franklin , N.O. , would be a nice pick up for our new hybrid , our D line is stacked , and even though there are lots of big names out there they are not at positions of need for Oakland. Reggie McKenzie has no easy task as he tries to put the finishing touches on the Raiders 2012 roster .
Though we have our starting linebackers we only have 5 linebackers on the roster , and if Coach Allen wants to deploy a hybrid 3/4 he will need the tools to do so . If you try to get away with a DE at LB against Manning he will throw right at him . Allen will also need to add a MLB to pull it off . McClain and Goethel would have to play the middle though Wheeler could thrive if moved inside when in a 4 LB set . Sims INDY , McIntosh WA , Brooking DAL , Gaither CAR , and Leber STL are about all thats left out there.
Myers is our starting TE . I like Ausberry , but Hardy may have a year on the practice squad before he is ready for duty , and there is no clear cut starter . Clark INDY , and Becht NYJ are still out there . Oakland could really use a veteran TE to help Palmer out .
The additions of gaurds Bergstrom , and Nix go a long way toward providing depth on the offensive line , but Oakland is still in need of a reserve center and tackle . There is depth on the right side . We all hope to see Barksdale realize his potential and wrestle the starting right tackle job from Barnes , but there is little depth behind Veldhere on the left side . God forbid anything should happen to Veldhere , but if it did our options would be wang , and Huard . With about 6 total NFL starts between the two of them Carson Palmer would probably sleep allot better at night if Oakland was able to add a veteran .
The most notable free agent tackle available is O'Neil from S.D. . He is a proven starter with some health issues , but could not only provide depth at LT , if healthy he could compete for the starting job at RT , and LG if need be . After O'Neil is the often injured Andrews NYG , McKenzie NYG , and Richardson KC are about all that's left to choose from .
Wiz is making the move back to center , but there is nobody behind him if he should turn an ankle or something and miss a few games . With Romberg ATL , and Faine TB topping the list of available centers Oakland may have to wait , and watch the waiver wire to see if they can catch a back up when teams start making cuts before the 2012 season kicks off .
At CB Bartell , and Spencer will start but Oakland could use a NIckle back , with Manning now in our division , and the return of Stokley in DEN it becomes painfully obvious that DEN plans to attack the middle of the secondary . Even with all the talent Philly had in their secondary , they had no nickle back and it cost them . Van Dyke is an outside corner , and though he may develop into a starter on the outside , he does not have the loose hips and change of direction skills to play in the middle of the feild . Chekwa may be up to the task if healthy . Underwood and Lee are a question mark . With Woodson now over 35 , Williams , and Sheilds with 4 ints , GB opted to let these two go , when help was obviously needed . Oakland would be wise to be watching the waiver wire for a nickle corner when teams start making roster cuts .
Reggie McKenzie will have to watch the practice squads , and waiver wire like a hawk to get the last few peices he needs given his cap limitations , but there are still a few players out there that could make his job a little easier .
