I am sure many of you here on S&BP like me scan and devour as much Raiders news as possible. But I just read this article and decided I wanted to share it.
Monte Poole: Thirty years after the move, Oakland Raiders' bond with fans still in need of repair
Now over the years I have read more than a bit of Monte's work and I generally find his stuff to be insightful and on the money. And this issue is one that is rather near and dear to me. As I have stated before I was born in Oakland and spent the first seven years of my life there. And though the city has gone waaaaaayyy downhill and is mostly ghetto these days it is still my hometown! In 82 when the Raiders moved to LA I was of two minds because at the time I lived in Southern CA (Oxnard, CA about an hour north of LA) and was one the one hand happy about the move. But on the other hand I still felt they were and always would be, in my heart if nowhere else The Oakland Raiders.
Now in 95 when they came back home to Oakland I was very happy I was living in Modesto at the time and going to the Colleseum is not a big problem just drive to Pleasonton jump on BART and go right to the stadium! And the drive ain't bad if you just gotta tailgate for yourself! Now I will ALWAYS be a Raider fan even if they were to move to Timbuktu or Katmandu! For me the Raiders are the RAIDERS! But plenty of east bay people said FUCK THE RAIDERS in 82 and are still saying it!
So what do you guys have to say about it? I know some of you live or have lived in the east bay what are your feelings about this article?
