The current members of the Oakland Raiders linebacker core are Miles Burris, Aaron Curry, Travis Goethel, Carl Ihenacho, Mario Kurn, Nathan Stupar and Philip Wheeler. They don't necessarily inspire a head first trust from a fan's perspective. Not to say that Rolando McClain was awe-inspiring middle linebacker, however he seemed to have the intangibles, size, strength and at times displayed effective power. He seemed to begin grasping the concept of being the field general on defense. Now, who do we look to?
Philip Wheeler looks to be utilized as an outside linebacker. Aaron Curry the same. The only two left who may take over the MLB position seems to be either Miles Burris or Travis Goethel. We've seen the potential Travis brings to the table but sometimes very good athletes have trouble maintaining good health and become overcome with injuries. NinjaGoro has posted some outstanding game footage of Miles Burris. I love this kids heart. He has a high motor on 95% of his plays. But the questions remains, who will or should step in?
Whispers are circulating that Dave Tollefson might be given an opportunity at the MLB spot. Personally, I would prefer to see EJ Henderson on our roster. As a contingency plan, for the possible jail time and NFL suspension of McClain, no else is better qualified than EJ.
With the Cedric Benson rumors floating around to fill the 90th roster spot the Oakland Raiders, the chances of EJ Henderson signing on board seem to be fading. Unfortunately, so will the Raiders defense if they don't fill a void in desperate need. Our defense has been our Achilles heel within the past few years. Our offense has been more than adequate and potent. Why not address this area of extreme need?
Why do you think Reggie McKenzie hasn't made the move, is it financial, personnel chemistry or other? Sound off....
