To read the articles as of late it appears that the Oakland Raiders are becoming the Rodney Dangerfieldof pro football, no respect. For years the assumption was that as long as Al Davis ran the organization, and refused to hire a GM, the media would continue to take their pound of flesh. The media bashing of the Oakland Raiders has not been laid to rest with Mr. Davis, if anything it has intensified. The Davis family has done exactly what the Al haters have insisted for years needed to be done to turn this organization around. They hired a GM who promptly cleaned house, and has provided the team with a solid path to the future. Yet the media continues to Raider bash, showing more respect to teams that failed to win a half dozen games last year. good news is we finally got a Monday night game this year. The bad news Raider hater Chris Bermanwill call it. So if the new look Raiders want respect, they have a prime time opportunity to take it.
Darren McFadden is the only player who gets any respect at all but still fails to crack the pro football weekly top 50, and rarely breaks the top ten lists for running backs in most publications. We have a great group of young receivers, but Heyward-Bey, and Ford fail to make the top 50 receivers list, the one lone Raider receiver to receive an honorable mention is Moore who made the best of the rest list at around 34.The media continues to rank the Raiders around 25th in the power rankings, even tough the sports books, who do this for a living, have the Raiders around 15th.
As a long time Raider fan for more than four decades, It's like the good old days , the all or nothing days, I love this shit. We got a solid team, let them sleep on us. We catch you slipping or believing the media hype it's a win for the Raiders. I just hope our young players understand we don't just play the opposing team, it's us against the opposing team, the ref's( who will probably be flown in from colorado), the League, and the entire staff of ESPN, NFL network, Warren Sapp, and anyone fool enough to beleive he is a credible media personality. The Raiders are moving in the right direction, and will give the NFL teams all they can handle on Sunday. Even without a full cap to work with. Raider Nation is on the move , and laying the foundation to be major players for the next few years.
